Hello all , I have been awol sorry .

I managed the 20 min run last week which I never never thought I would manage .

But we have been away for half term and I think I have broken a toe :( I am properly gutted . It happened on Tuesday and is still sore . I have taped it to my next toe and am hoping for it to magically god itself .

Does anyone have any bright ideas ? I was really enjoying running and now I am having trouble even walking for too long .

sallysparrow157 · 02/06/2013 19:49

I started couch to 5k in feb last year, initially entirely in the gym on the treadmill, started off 'running' at something like 7k an hour and it nearly killed me!
Today I did the pennine Lancashire 10k in 67 minutes and bloody loved it, was my first time running with other people and the atmosphere was fantastic! Bloody hilly though!
If anyone is thinking of doing a 10k but put off by hills, the Leeds one in mid July looks to be properly flat, although a very boring route.

pennygallops · 02/06/2013 19:47

Well done eminemmerdale - take a rest day tomorrow and you'll be ready for 2nd week run 2.

And well done nearlyreadytopop - I love to push myself, it gives you are feel sense of achievement, doesn't it. (And it doesn't matter how far the distance, it's about your own personal goals.) About your feet, are you decent, supportive running shoes?

namelessmcnally poor you, I'll feel sorry for you too You'll need to rest for a day or two to get your strength back.

I've started looking at running clubs in my area again - there are a few to chose from, need to fit in around the DC's activities.

fruitpastille · 02/06/2013 19:45

For those whose headphones fall out, these are pretty good at staying in. Mine came with 2 sizes the smallest of which fit well. Not the cheapest but worth it if they keep me going. yurbuds

My run went much better today. 2.34 miles in 30 mins (5 walking). Slow but slight improvement!

Get well soon nameless, sounds miserable!

nearlyreadytopop · 02/06/2013 19:23

week 1 run 3 just finished. and it was hard. my feet are achingSad I got half way through and was for walking home when I thought about some of the things you all have posted. it gave me the motivation to push on, so thank you Thanks

eminemmerdale · 02/06/2013 19:17

Just done my 2nd week 1 - this is as far as i got last time and my knee 'went'. Happy to report all seems fine knee wise and i feel very proud Grin

NamelessMcNally · 02/06/2013 19:09

8k yesterday morning. Stomach bug all day today and strained a muscle wretching. Feel so sorry for me. Weeps.

pennygallops · 02/06/2013 18:05

I run without music, partially because I can't get the earphones to stay in my ears.

Did 30mins swimming, front crawl - couldn't do that before running (always did a slow breast stroke). Decided to swim once a week to strengthen quads and hamstrings, which should strengthen my knee... cross-training and all that.
We loved our run so much this morning, we've been researching other races to enter. Grin

BIWI · 02/06/2013 17:02

I set my music playing first, LIZS, and then start the Get Running app. Basically, when the app needs to tell you something, it cuts over the music. Works really well and I get to listen to my choice of music!

I didn't go for a run today as I'm still a bit snotty, but will be off tomorrow morning I think/hope.

nextphase · 02/06/2013 16:57

I got music from here with instructions in the middle.

LIZS · 02/06/2013 16:49

Doos anyone have accompanying music or chat on an app, or maybe radio ? Found the instruction a bit cold on its own !

debtherat · 02/06/2013 16:40

I found a route which is a circuit mainly through local village - very few people around normally - which suits me especially at the beginning when I did not want to be seen - still don't - but as confidence grows it becomes normal... And I found a site which allows you to map your run so I knew where I had got to. Also lots of grass is good to have at start I think especially as it is softer on the joints. And for motivation I read " Run fat bitch Run" - not as bad as it sounds believe me!

BelaLug0si · 02/06/2013 15:35

Bakingnovice I've lost inches and some weight, it will depend on your other exercise and net calorie intake. After 10 weeks more muscles are visible and more toned so big improvement.

Well done migrant on the 30 mins. Were the shoes too loose or too tight? I think lacing mine too tight yesterday and the pavement camber gave me a blister on the inside of my foot. Sore today so just did a 4km walk.

migrant · 02/06/2013 12:55

Lovely news cinnamon! My dog is now an ultra keen running companion and a great motivator too.

I really struggled with sore legs after my ill fitting new shoes, but finally managed to run 30 mins straight. It was meant to be 25 but I was so pleased not to be sore that I just kept going.

Have booked a physio for Tues to see if he can teach me better cool down stretches. I'm so enjoying the running that I want to do it properly and I need all the help I can get!

pennygallops · 02/06/2013 12:50

Had a great morning - really lovely atmosphere! Even my DD ran in the whole 2k (in 13mins), DS was 'miles' ahead of us. My knee didn't hurt through the run, just aches a bit now (currently wrapped in an ice-pack). Going to rest it until next Saturday.

Good to hear that Billy is good running partner cinnamon.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2013 10:53

Well done for getting started nextphase, that's the hardest run!

Yay for your 5k fromheretomaternity!!!!! Well done, 34mins is great :)

Welcome RatherBeOnThePiste!

I lost weight whilst running bug was calorie counting at the same time. I think it helps keep the weight off as I have a lot more muscle now so my bmr is higher. Running for 30 mins is about a snickers so depends if running makes you hungry and want to eat more bakingnovice.

I think sometimes you just have a bad run fruitpastille, I remember just after I finished the plan I was struggling and aiming for 15 mins before a little walk as I just couldn't manage 30 at all!! Not sure what happened suspect it was mental for me as I no longer had a target, now I run for the love but wasn't then.

Hope all goes well today pennygallops!

I had a 40min run today, almost 7k but didn't want to go further as it was Billy's first run. He was so good, got a bit excited at couple of bikes but after that he didn't bother with any other bikes or dogs. He was at my side almost all the time, my right which is annoying as I generally run at the right of the path but very good running partner so far and he's knackered :)

Well I am flagging a little at week 7. I had the best part of a week off and when I went out the other day I really struggled at 20 minutes and nearly gave up. In the end I just walked for about 2 minutes and managed to run the final 3. A bit disappointing. It was a warm morning and a different route so maybe that didn't help. I will give it another go shortly!

nextphase · 02/06/2013 08:07

Well, I've done the first run (walk?)
Surprised myself at how far I went - had to add a loop at the end, when I thought I'd probably end up having to do more than a 5 min cool down.

I'm hoping to use it to help me loose weight - but then I'm currently not doing enough exercise!

Thank-you to everyone who has kept the previous C25K on the active conversations page til you kicked me into doing something about the baby toddler preschooler weight!

pennygallops · 02/06/2013 08:04

Welcome Idratherbeonthepiste. If you look at the program it slowly builds up from 1 min of running. If you are already you might like to start at week 4, if I remember that's running in 8 min sections. I'd also like to recommend parkruns - I wish I'd started doing them before I'd graduated. Lots of people walk/run the course.

I am testing my knee today with a 2K fun run that we have entered - we finish the run in our local football stadium Smile. DS will be sprinting ahead, I have to be with DD (as she is under 9), so luckily it will be a light jog (occasionally) or fast walk. I'll have ice ready for when I get home. Sad

englishteacher78 · 02/06/2013 08:03

Running inside is sometimes necessary to us asthmatics. Don't worry. As for losing weight while running - you burn apprx 100 calories every 10 minutes. BUT, you may find you lose inches rather than lbs. not necessarily a bad thing. I lost a dress size while staying at roughly the same weight.

Bakingnovice · 02/06/2013 07:47

Can I ask a quick question? I've downloaded the app but haven't started. I've run in the past but found I never loose weight running. I've lost a stone recently and have another one to go and I don't know whether to start running now or wait until I'm at goal. Has running c25k helped any of you guys shed pounds?

I'm currently exercising 3-4 times a week using shred and walking.

By the way I love reading the threads. You are all very very inspiring!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/06/2013 07:45

May I join you lovely people?

Waves to BIWI. Have not been running for so long and need to start to build up to 5K. Am thinking about putting myself back on to the Cto5K programme again. Used it before and it was v successful.

I do have asthma and may have to do some running inside on a machine if weather conditions conspire. But the running itself is good for it, certainly doesn't stop me.

So I'm startling tomorrow. Not sure where on the prog. Feels like it has been a long time!

Now I've said it. With witnesses. Shock Grin

ArgumentativeAardvark · 02/06/2013 07:30

Off out for another run while its still sunny. How did everybody's Saturday go?

englishteacher78 · 01/06/2013 20:13

My first R4L time was 40 mins! It's amazing how quickly you can rack up the miles with out really realising when you get beyond 10km. I'm never going to be speedy but it's interesting to see how far/fast I can go.

watchingout · 01/06/2013 19:55

Oo well done fromheretomaternity! Thanks I've done RFL in the past (when much fitter) its a fantastic outing. Very emotional for me though. Great to have such a good cause to spur you on
