I think it went ok thanks pennygallops, had a couple of marshals short but they're not essential ones. I missed a bit out of the pre run speech and told the first timers is was a 5 MILE run Blush. Results were all on the system by 10.30 :)

How did run director go cinnamon?

My regular parkrun had its first birthday party today. It was a very toasty one too. Ran with DD, finished in about 36 mins but I did manage a sprint (ish) finish (absolutely no pain today Grin. We had 251 runners, DS finished 68th. Waiting for our times.

hairtwiddler running is definitely addictive.

hairtwiddler · 05/07/2013 21:57

There's some brilliant motivation here. Keep running all, it's good for the soul! Doing this has given me so much belief in myself again. I never thought I would finish the programme and it's officially my last run this weekend. The sense of achievement is sooo great. And it's true, running is addictive.Smile

Dingle · 05/07/2013 21:48

THere is a strange red glow down here in Kent, it's emitting from my face! I hope you are not local to me coconuts or planes will be crashing from the sky!

W4R3 done, upped it again, walked at 4.5 and plodded at 5mph. Pulled the stupid cord out again in the last run so lost all my data again. Hmm

Reading this I am starting to panic, so what's ahead of me for W5, have I got to run for 20 min in one hit! EEK. Just as well I will try it on Sunday, I will have all day to recover.

Well done everyone, my shower awaits. xx

nextphase · 05/07/2013 20:00

Yeah! Go Watching

Cinnamon thats really interesting. Psychologically, it sounds much easier - much shorter runs, and some rests! Will have to see what happens over the weekend.

Scarecrow nope, I'd rather run in the rain than blazing sunshine.

Well done to everyone who is sticking with the program! It really does work - so Baking don't worry, just trust your body, and don't let your mind win the argument, as you really CAN do it!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 05/07/2013 19:25

im back... post run. Grin

first run of week one done. im Angry

Bakingnovice · 05/07/2013 15:35

Watching well done!

And well done to all the other runners. This thread keeps me going. The support is amazing. Week 5 on Sunday!

scarecrow22 · 05/07/2013 15:19

Got my first child free three hours for three months and it is too hot to run!! Will go early tomorrow. Am almost wishing for a bit of drizzle...am I the only person who quite likes running in the rain?!

Have fun those of you running

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2013 14:22

He's lovely thank you gingerpinz, he's gettin less clingy to me as the days go on and he stays out of the kitchen while I'm cooking now instead of begging which is great. He's pretty good running with me. My cats are slowly getting used to him and he's terrified of them!!

gingerpinz · 05/07/2013 09:24

Thanks cinnamon. Hope things going well with the new dog. Good luck tomorrow...sure you will be great!

Lovely day here...enjoy your runs anyone who is out today!

watchingout · 05/07/2013 08:11

You can Bakingnovice! Cos I just did!! GrinGrinGrin

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2013 08:11

Sorry to hear that gingerpinz, get well soon!

Well done hairtwiddler that's great! And travellingwilbury you'll get there by the end you will be doing lots more running by then :)

Be careful nextphase several of us found w6r1 very hard so don't be too upset if you find it a tricky o e after having done a full 20 mins :)

Good luck Twasbrillig!

I've been this morning, only 30 mins but better than nothing. Will hopefully fit in a longer run at the weekend. Run director at parkrun this week, eeeeeek!!!!

hairtwiddler · 05/07/2013 07:13

How many runners today? Glad of a rest day as i'm a bit stiff after yesterday's efforts. Having a proper rest. Bus to work instead of bike! Have a fab weekend, it's going to be glorious weather apparently!

Bakingnovice · 04/07/2013 23:13

I'm doing w4r3 tmrw and really looking forward to week 5. But I can tell you now there is just no way on gods earth that I can run 20 minutes!!! Bricking it already!!

TwasBrillig · 04/07/2013 22:20

Well done!! I'm giving week 4 run 1 another shot tomorrow evening. Hoping the headache doesn't come back as I'm determined to do it. Will drink water in the day etc.

hairtwiddler · 04/07/2013 22:19

Do believe! The 20 mins was a huge psychological step for me, and now I've nearly doubled that time. The programme builds stamina. Can't believe how well it has worked for me. The feeling of running non stop for the full distance has had me endorphin loaded all evening!Grin

watchingout · 04/07/2013 22:02

Congratulations hairtwiddler Grin (where's the "medal" emoticon?!)

Nextphase - challenge accepted Wink is it really 20 minutes?...Blush

Believe, believe .....

gingerpinz · 04/07/2013 20:42

That is BRILLIANT hairtwiddler Go you!

And thanks...planning a fair bit of stretching and walking over the next few days in the hope it will ease off to try again on Sunday. If not I think I will just forget it until after we come back from our holiday and just do some swimming next week and plenty of walking while we are away.

nextphase · 04/07/2013 20:20

watching
I'm 12 hrs ahead of you! Enjoy tomorrow morning. I did all of it, and only walked half a dozen paces to get over the single plank of scaffolding which acts as a bridge over the stream! Can't beleive what a difference 5 weeks makes!

w6r1 sounds easier than w5r3!

amigababy · 04/07/2013 20:04

I'm also in new trainers, and on w5r2. It sort of surprised me that it wasn't identical to w5r1 but hey ho, I did it.

well done hairtwiddler that's great.

travellingwilbury · 04/07/2013 19:40

My phone is rubbish once the thread gets bigger .

But hurrah for everyone still going and sorry to all with pains .

I managed Wk 5 r2 today and in 35 mins i covered 2.7 miles . I know i still need to do another half mile but for the first time I am thinking I will at some point run 5k . Very happy bunny Grin

hairtwiddler · 04/07/2013 19:27

Just back from lovely run in gorgeous evening sunshine. Absolutely chuffed to report I ran 5k! Official proof the programme works. Took me 39 mins but I plodded on and am now very sweaty but beaming.

Ginger, sorry about your pain. Rest up eh? I was given a really good calf stretch to today. Both hands on a wall, lean into wall and do both calves at once.

gingerpinz · 04/07/2013 19:14

GUTTED!! Went out to do Wk 8 Day 1 this evening and had to pull up (and phone DH for a lift home!) only 6 mins in with pain in my calf. Sad

Going to rest until at least Sunday then see how I feel and maybe give it another go. This happened, on the same route, much earlier in the programme and after resting for a week I continued and have been fine since, so am hopeful but still annoyed about today as the wee bit I managed felt good and I was looking forward to having done 28 mins! Ah well...

BIWI · 04/07/2013 16:23

Week 4/run 2 done! I chose another route out of the village, and although it wasn't flat the slope was much more gradual than the one I chose earlier in the week. And it was much cooler, so I am less exhausted!! But I had to run on the road a lot as the verges are a bit unpredictable and I nearly fell over a couple of times. So I'm keeping an anxious eye on my shins, and I can definitely feel that they are tightening up a bit, so must keep on with the stretching

cinnamongreyhound · 04/07/2013 16:01

Hi All, not been able to catch up this week at all so well done to everyone who's still running and hope there haven't been too many hiccups along the way!

Feeling a bit guilty as I've been out every evening this week, Monday preparing for my role as parkrun director, Tuesday as shopping event at school trying to sell some of my Bodyshop stock and last night babysitting. Tonight I should be home but I'm going straight out once I've put my boys to be to run with my friend. Tomorrow evening is opticians for ds1 and vets for Cats jabs then I should be home :)
