I live near Ribble cycles. I think I need to go in to look at small frames and some live action bike porn.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 03/08/2012 19:08

FrillyMilly-DD is a teeny dot and she had her tri bike built for her, we actually got the frame cheaper because it was so small. It was in the workshop of the guy who supplied all our tri kit and he couldn't find a buyer for it.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 03/08/2012 19:05

Hiding this thread. DD spent all of last Sunday swooning over bikes at her first Triathlon in five years, we cannot afford an upgrade yet.

Uppermid · 03/08/2012 19:01

I now need to find something nice to wear that has reflective strips on it. Can't look like a bin an on my pashley!!

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 03/08/2012 18:42

Arrrgghhh Dolan not Dylan.
Ribble not Rubble!

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 03/08/2012 18:41

FrillyMilly have you looked at Dylan for 46 cm bike porn? I'd be really surprised if they didn't have anything . Also, a girl I was at uni with was 4'11" and had a tiny tri bike from Rubble. Not sure what size frame, but must was tiny, and has race-legal wheel size. Or what about the bigger Islabikes? Their cross bikes are lovely.

VivaLeBeaver · 03/08/2012 17:26

Tyres seem fine. I'm going to get it serviced next month as the only thing I do to it is occassionally pump the tyres up a bit. Seems to go ok, though I'm sure it I used to be faster!

ivykaty44 · 03/08/2012 17:13

gosh - have the tyres not perished? My tyres on one bike did after about 5 years

VivaLeBeaver · 03/08/2012 17:12

Mine still has the same tyres - never even had a puncture.

now my dad has a claude butler - but back from the 50's just the frame now is original the rest is replaced etc

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/08/2012 17:08

Suspension can slow you down if you are pedalling (though decent stuff doesn't) and it means you can go much faster down rough stuff.

VivaLeBeaver · 03/08/2012 17:03

My mountain bike is a custom made, one off bike. I got it third hand and the bloke I got it off reckoned it was a prototype mountain bike for Claud Butler back in the days when they used to be decent bikes.

I've had it for nearly 20 years and love it to bits, its aluminium and really light. No suspension, but I don't think I'd like suspension. Surely shock absorbtion slows you down!

Be warned, this is proper filthy bike porn...

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 03/08/2012 15:43

Uppermid, love the Pashley Envy

I'm tall so have to go for guys bikes to get a comfortable leg position.

FrillyMilly · 03/08/2012 10:44

Pedallleur thanks for that info I will have a look at those. I have got a Carrera road bike that I got through a cycle to work scheme. I got it from halfords and had a choice of two bikes in my frame size and budget. I wasn't sure if I'd get in to it so didn't want to spend a lot. We live at the top of a hill so the gears come in handy.

Pedallleur · 03/08/2012 09:27

Probably a t-shirt out there with the equation. Also ones available with
'What would Jens do?

46cm is small but you could have something made - obviously more expensive. But have a look at Giant/Trek/Specialized womens ranges first and speak to a 'proper' bike shop if possible. You don't have to have a modern racer - a dutch bike or a single-speed bike may be better

SummerLightning · 03/08/2012 09:18

The closest I have to a custom bike is one my mate reprinted with a silly pattern related to me! That bike is a super cheap one though (singlespeed mtb)

ivykaty44 · 03/08/2012 09:09

we had to sell the handmade bike we had as dd2 had outgrown it Sad- it was a classic and there were older men at the club eyeing it up as they new the man and son that used to make them - the money went on rollers. I got lucky as got the handmade bike second/third hand of the owner of the bike shop.

ivykaty44 · 03/08/2012 09:04

Uppermid wow Grin and Envy

Uppermid · 03/08/2012 08:37

Grin. You do glide on it, unless going uphill then I'm red faced and puffing, but I was like that on my old mountain bike so no difference there!

SummerLightning · 03/08/2012 08:36

Pashley nice - you need to perfect breezing along effortlessly and looking stylish now. Maybe with a baguette and some other middle class food shopping perched in your basket.

Uppermid · 03/08/2012 08:35

Phew, thought you'd all laugh at me! After avoiding exercise for the last 20 odd years, realised that unless I want to end up a fat diabetic with a heart condition, I'd really better start doing something, so about 4 weeks ago I started cycling to work.

Caerlaverock · 03/08/2012 08:32

I love my pashley uppermid, more of a work out with 3 gears and an enormously heavy frame!

Uppermid · 03/08/2012 08:29

I got a new bike yesterday, though you'll probably all scoff that it's not a proper bikehere it is

SummerLightning · 03/08/2012 08:19

Voles - blimey 18 bikes is a lot does that include kids bikes or just yours and DH?

Bike race - my ds has just moved up from balance bike too.
I prefer a bit of mtb porn myself. And I agree the first one is a bit showy and yellow.
Does anyone else eye up other peoples bikes when they are out?

Also those cheap full suspension mtbs that you can get for 100 quid offend my eyes!
