Agree there is no point in joining a club which will aim to raise your fitness levels, when you are at a point when you should look to maintain your fitness levels at most. Unless you fancy some company. That is the only time I can see you doing it. And you would have to join the slowest group which might be frustrating?

monkeyLFDTwench · 25/11/2011 15:01

badger that's wonderful news! Have you had cvs before? I had it with ds3 - nervewracking but the results were quick.

ange I raised a grand running the marathon, people were generous. I offered to do babysitting too, but no one asked me Hmm. Much easier to fundraise for London, because I did another marathon quite a few people asked how far it was and expressed surprise that it was the same distance as the VLM!

fanny Edinburgh - pretty flat I think though.

MoshiMoshi · 25/11/2011 14:59

Just spotted on reading back (said in hushed tone), CONGRATULATIONS, badger! Woop woop!

MoshiMoshi · 25/11/2011 14:57

OK, have just requested KT befriend me on FB. If anybody by the initials KT is on here and has a random friend request from WR (nee WE), then tis me! Still not convinced I have caught you all (evil cackle - mwoaaaahahahahahahahahha!) Grin

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 14:54

badger remind us me is this DC3? and is there a specific reason for cvs (sorry if being stupid, can't recall)? We had one with dd2 due to bad downs odds - it was pretty horrible at the time, but certainly helpful

AngeChica · 25/11/2011 14:54

I need to raise 2 and a half grand, 2 of it by end of jan to keep my place... it's very sweet of you to offer, I already have a justgiving page but I'll put my link up in the new year - I haven't been hassling people too much so far as I did the Great North Swim in June and got loads of people to sponsor me for that as well. Have been selling cards and calendars at craft markets, fairs etc, which takes time out of our weekend as I work 4 days a week as well. But am deffo packing all that in now to concentrate on the training. Off to collect DS in my running hat ... the other mams will be looking smart for the school run no doubt!

ibbydibby · 25/11/2011 14:48

Badger congratulations! I think best to wait....I think at running club you will inevitably push yourself, and this is perhaps the one time when you should listen to your body saying it can't go on...

Sorry about your brother, was he badly hurt?

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:47

and ange spread the word and post fund-raising page everywhere, it will happen

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:46

fanny what I was on about not sure it makes much sense out of context of programme

I just love choirs, would love to join a huge one to hide my voice in Blush

ibbydibby · 25/11/2011 14:46

Ange what is deadline? I remember several friends having to get lump sum of money in fairly early on. Friend's DS raised money for trip to Africa (Uganda I think) by selling quiz sheets, cleaning cars, dog walking etc etc. I could email you a quiz sheet if you want. (people like to buy these to do over Christmas and New Year I did one at DS2's school last year and went down v well)

Another friend organised a quiz night, and wrote to local shops for prizes. Was big well known charity and because of that she got some good prizes.

Bake cakes to sell to neighbours (get them interested by delivering freee samples with accompanying price list).

Think importaant thing is to spread the word. Many peolpe are imrpessed by someone running a marathon, and want to sponsor you. When I did it in 2007 I was even sponsored in 2007 by someone I had never met - a friend of my mums. DH was sponsored £1 a mile by my colleague and her partner, and at that stage he had not met either of them.

Because so many poeple sponsored me I thought it was very important to keep a note of everyone and let them know how I got on.

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:44

badger congrats take it you have some worries will not leave thread

fanny yes born on army base in Africa and so on

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 14:41

Ange VLM fundraising a pain in the arse, how much you need to raise? Let us know when you've set up your just giving page. I'll definitely sponsor you. Take it easy, it's not supposed to be stressful.

On a marathon note, I'm defo entering one, probably be Chester or Liverpool however would rather do one around May/June. Anyone any idea of any around that time?

fannybanjo · 25/11/2011 14:29

sfx what programme was that? Was your dad military?

AngeChica · 25/11/2011 14:22

Just been out battling the winds as it's a bit wild up here today ... my legs felt like jelly! But I feel invigorated for it. Had a big wobble yesterday... worries re parents plus trying to manage work, DS, the house, plus the training and doing all sorts of things to try and raise the blimmin money for my golden ticket deadline which I am finding quite stressful ... it all suddently felt too much to handle (had also felt exhausted all week after long drive). DH agrees I am trying to do too much, must just try and relax and concentrate on the training. Sorry for pathetic moan. I need someone to give me the hairdryer :)

fannybanjo · 25/11/2011 14:21

sfx thanks chuck, it seems to have been overlooked by SeasonalCurtainGate. Grin. I don't change cushions, now that is anal!

rhet when you grow up you want to be just like me.... Wink.

I have another admission, I have my own Keter shed next to the house to keep my hoover, carpet cleaner etc in.,..

OP posts:
ibbydibby · 25/11/2011 14:09

yup, Rhet sounds like me, apart from the 2nd point (last time I looked DCs were male)

sfx funny that, my DH also hates confrontation of any kind. Gets really embarassed when I let rip at someone.

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:08

fanny meant to say lovely fund raising

on a non running related (yes I will be back to study shortly) I watched that army wife's choir thing and wept, maybe it is the army family background maybe I am getting soft in my old age and don't so much mind being emotionally manipulated, but goodness that woman soloist has a beautiful voice
(back to dull paper)

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 14:03

so, on a scientific poll of this thread I am concluding the following about runners:

  • lots of them have red hair or red haired children
  • lots of them have girl children
  • they all have a social conscience
  • they are not scared of speaking their minds especially to random strangers up to no good
  • they are generally averse to ironing and most housework (fanny you are just a freak)
sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:02

DH never wants me to intervene in public places, he gets really tense with that even if he sometimes does it, but if you use public transport as much as I do it is fairly inevitable

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 14:00

pavement cyclists grrr - usually men, in my experience - I usually politely point out the location of the road to them, failing that, suggest that their masculinity must be questionable if they are too chicken to brave the road...

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:00

fanny do you change cushions on the sofa too? Grin

looking out the window at the gorgeous weather, but still have another hr or so to go, best get off MN thenHmm

monkeyLFDTwench · 25/11/2011 13:58

But it IS bullying isn't it? This assumption that you can behave how you like and no one will stand up to you? Poor DH has heard the lecture I give (adult) pavement cyclists and dogshit droppers that many times, he knows not to bother telling me. The one time he jumped in in a similar situation he got punched in the face, so is a little more wary! but I'm a battle-axe and just don't care.

Just cancelled my brow threading today as I've realised the cupboards are bare so supermarket beckons. What a terrific social whirl my life is Smile.

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 13:53

the only seasonal thing in this house is the duvet and the fire - I wear the same clothes all year round, just more of them in winter. I think my wardrobe is fast approaching the point where it consists primarily of running type clothing...
