Oh wow orange. When you're not hormonal you'll look back on that and be flattered !

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 20:53

She was sitting down the opposite end of the table and piped up 'wheelybug, your dad was right 'dd2's hair does look like a mop'. BIL says 'i love dd2's hair'. MIL 'do you ? ?' In a tone.

Ok my dad should not have joked about it either but that would have been in march so she's stored it up .... Grrr. I also know that my dad thinks dd2 is ace Nd my MIL can't cope with her hair.

stickylittlefingers · 06/11/2011 20:53

Another fab report Fanny. Hope you're still in the basking in the glow of a race well run.

now orange you're sure that's not stealth boasting there? There's no way anyone would think I was under 50 30! Hope you feel better soon.

orangehead · 06/11/2011 20:52

Im 33. There was a woman in the news the other dawho was Ided, I think she was something like 89 and showed her bus pass and they said they wouldn't take that Shock Grin someone not engaging brain there.

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 20:48

orange oh no no no, I don't recommend anyone not doing the full miles, this is just for me, I will do the odd 13 miles but NOT every week. I don't need to get the miles under my belt anymore. I think it's actually gone against me.

orangehead · 06/11/2011 20:48

oh definitely a medal Wheely and some of my Wine I finally got.

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 20:47

Wow orangehead at being ided ! How old are you ? I can't believe thinking about it that I am twice legal drinking age and it only seems like yesterday we were faking id to buy Newky brown (class)

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 20:46

Angry at your MIL commenting on your DD's hair. It's sounds amazing. I had extremely white hair as a child (until late teens too) and none of mine have it. What did your MIL say? You get stuck into your training, I wish I'd have done few shorter races before my first HM. You'll know yourself better than I did after that 10 miler last week. Very good training race that. Hey, 23.5 ace for 5k! And you could get quicker!

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 20:44

I rely on the treadmill for intervals . A v easy way to do them. I had said I was going to give up my gym membership now I don't need the creche for dd2 but am going to have to convince dh of the necessity I think.

orangehead · 06/11/2011 20:43

CoteDAzur how gutting about your race. But well done for still getting out there and getting a pb Smile.
Well done fanny, sorry you were disappointed at the lack of knobs Grin. Thats a shame about the powerade and feeling ill but all the more to be proud of that you still did it and sub 1.50.You must be so chuffed.
All this talk of not doing the full miles in training for a race. Im sure it works but can't get my head round it, think I would find it really hard to do a race psychologically if I not done the full miles.
Feeling very rough today, totm. So thought I would get some alcohol to drown my sorrow and help with the cramps. The woman in morrissons refused to serve me as I had no id Shock, the mood I was in I am surprise I did not lamp (not that I'm a violent person). They should really have radars so not to challenge horomonally charged woman that have not drank fo a whole month. I know I am always told I look young for my age, but to be id'd is just draft. Anyway got some else where.

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 20:42

Am doing Brighton half in Feb.

Yes, 21 mins v fast ! I think 23.5 ish my pb for 5k and don't think I'd get much faster. Don't much like shorter distances and don't think i"m designed for them as a midget with short stumpy legs.

I did 5k this morning, first since last w/e and was at MILs and forgot ipod and I could hear my feet slapping really hard. It's no wonder I get sore feet. Really need to work on this.

BTW I think I deserve a medal for 2 weekends in a row at MILs . Today she was making v. Caustic comments about dd2s hair (for those who've not seen the pics its a white blond and mad curly - but it really suits her ) - I was livid.

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 20:34

Plus I need to get on a track too and work
on sprints and good timed intervals! Haha not much is it? Blush

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 20:31

wheely a 14 miler fine but I was going 16 miles plus. I did a 14, 15 and 16 miler since the GNR (along with 3 13.2 milers) and I know now that I don't need to keep doing 13 plus milers every week, I can do the distance no problem BUT can I
do the distance comfortably at my desired HM pace... No, not yet. Last mile showed that. So only way in my opinion, is to concentrate on working on my fatigue and doing steady runs at my HM pace then upping pace last section. I do believe I'm a stronger short distance runner, I regularly whack out 21 min 5ks in training and it's not a huge effort, I'd probably surprise myself at a 5k race. Definitely going to add one in in Feb. Have you entered a HM yet?

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 20:24

Except of course I didn't run another 3 miles ! LOL at 'better at shorter runs' - you're not so bad at longer runs Grin.

Interesting you don't think it was helpful going over distance . I think I've decided to follow one of Paula radcliffe's plans as the long runs start at 8 miles and build to 14 and its 12 weeks and if I start next week i'll have an extra 2 weeks in hand to run another couple of runs at distance.

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 19:59

Thanks wheely - yes very similar to yours. I hit mile 10 at around 1hr23 and you know what, you popped into my head! You know what though, those last 3 miles were tough, you get loads of training in at faster than HM pace, I intend to do tonnes of 10 milers at 8.10 pace in the future, I'm not going past 12 miles in training either. Its pointless unless i decide to do marathon but if I do, it'll be late next year. I'm going to work extra hard on pushing myself the last few miles in training. After March, I'm going to get into 5 and 10ks, I've realised I'm best at shorter faster runs.

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 19:46

ooh had to leave that post and go off and so it managed to x-post with fanny. Great race report. Splits and report reads much like my run last week (except extrapolated over another 3 miles of course) so know how you feel over the last couple of miles. I retch like that too sometimes (last week wasn't until over the line though) - tis grim and its hard to get back to it afterwards so well done.

You must be on a high though now and deserve to be ! So pleased for you getting sub 1.50 Grin Grin Grin.

Wheelybug · 06/11/2011 19:35

Yay ! Well done on sub-hour futurity - fab fab ! And good news on feeling better afterwards.

And fantastic fanny on sub 1.50 half !! Well done - all those hills did the job.

Looking forward to reading race reports from both.

Great race report rhet - well done again.. its been a great weekend all round for hte three of you. I think I said before but I visited Glendalough on a study tour of early medieval Irish stuff as part of my degree. Beautiful... want to go back now.

cote - sorry about cancelled race, how frustrating.

Sciencebint- sorry you're still having issues. You must be going insane. I don't know anything about aquajogging but I have seen people in my local pool with strange things (paddles and things) whilst swimming. I hope you find something to keep you going in the meantime.

stickylittlefingers · 06/11/2011 19:33

Great stuff Cote - that's proper hardcore, doing a race once it's been cancelled!!

futurity glad to hear you didn't have a repeat of last time. And well done again, what a great year :)

Bumply you're coming on leaps and bounds (even if you're presently too stiff be doing much leaping and bounding right now!!).

Much inspired by all your efforts, I'm going to put in another 11 miler tomorrow.

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 19:32

ARGHHHH wrong splits!!! Fucking daft cow! DON'T BOTHER CLICKING ON LINK IN RACE REPORT PEOPLE!!!

HERE are the correct ones!

fannybanjo · 06/11/2011 19:26

Thank you everyone!

Right, here's the fanny report...

felt great this morning, not tired, not ill, not needing an enema Wink, not worried or nervous, weather brilliant, traffic great - had all the signs of a "perfect" race day.

had good breakfast, drank water but didn't drink anything 2 hours prior (GNR taught me that!). Homemade flapjack which also had dried apricots and sunflower seeds in it was pre-race snack (good bloody idea as it really fueled me well).

Got to Lancaster at 10am with full fanny fambo. Parked at Asda (next to sports hall) and arsed about for a while, met my friend and her family and registered kids in the fun run (1 mile). Warmed up by jogging around one lap of track. Looked like a lot of serious racers, got slightly worried at that.

Went over to start line and jammied the fanny pack into middle of the crowd of people. Very disappointed there weren't any knobs out at beginning!

Set off, a lovely trail type run along canal and some river in Lancaster(!) and pace was slightly faster than I originally intended but felt very comfortable so kept with it. Got to mile 8 and still felt good but knew didn't have it in me to charge forward as quite a steep hill was ahead. Made it up hill but asked my friend to keep with me as could feel I felt a bit sick and knew if she charged off I would stop. Down hill for next mile and that was bloody welcomed.

Got to mile 10 and I started arguing with myself. "you can fucking do this, come on, only 5k left, don't let yourself down". I think I started making little noises to myself as was really feeling it, this Powerade was repeating on me and I could feel bile rising in my throat. My friend was powering on and I just zoned out, I was in a bubble the last 2 miles and it was a huge effort. Last mile marker was in front of me and I was feeling very ill.

12.5 miles and I just stopped dead, retched then fired up. Saw my friend (she had turned around a bend so was opposite me and she shouted "COME ON FANNY!!!" - I turned into the sports hall track at 13 miles and saw DH (he said I was GREY!) and mouthed 'NEVER FUCKING EVER AGAIN!" DD1 was running along side and that really fired me on. Saw my friend slack off before finish and I "sprinted" last 100 metres (have a cracking photo with me screeching to DD1, look like I am having a ball!) and nearly died at the finish. Couldn't believe I had done it, the euphoria was like I had won the Olympics and to be honest, I really thought I would struggle.

It was very mentally tough, not physically. My problem is I really need to work on my fatigue, I am quite a "weak" person (not well built or strong) and it shows whereas my friend is better built and she has better endurance.

here are my splits if anyone is interested. The last mile is where I suffered the most. I am chuffed though as I ran the majority of it faster than I intended. Never again will I touch Powerade, the sheer thought of it is making me balk.

My friend finished around 40 seconds faster but she is suffering tonight, she is feeling pretty ill, she powered off at the end and exerted herself.

A fantastic race, great for a PB. Very flat with only one easy hill. I doubt I will beat that time in my next HM (Very hill, local to me) but I don't care, I did what I set out to do.

Thank you for having the patience to get through the above!

monkeywench · 06/11/2011 18:13

Just another quickie as have just got back from a concert with the boys - well done fanny, you star! You're on fire at the moment! Look forward to the full fanny report soon.

ThatVikRinA22 · 06/11/2011 16:52

just nipping in for a sneaky peak at the race updates!

blimey....i have to say i think you are all amazing! i just cant imagine being able to run these distances.

well done Futurity and Fanny!

Bumply - sounds like your doing brilliantly! im just building up to 10k, but then i need to work on my time ready for my first 10k next year.

Cote - shame about your 5k being cancelled, thats disappointing, good for you for doing one anyway! i think your times are around the same as mine - though with each week i feel a little fitter and a little faster, i think i knocked about a minute per mile off my 5 miles last week, making my average about 9 mins (still slow but improving!)

i have come to the conclusion i really need a Garmin....might drop hints for xmas!

i wish i could just run on set days but its so hard with shifts...and ive blobbed this week - im getting a little tattoo on top of my foot tomorrow - didnt even think about it affecting my running Confused hope it doesnt stop me, should run tomorrow but coming off nights so probably wont feel up to it.

this thread is such a great inspiration to keep running when i see what you are all doing, and such a lovely mix of abilities - well done everyone. Smile

CoteDAzur · 06/11/2011 16:19

Hi everyone - I was looking forward to posting my first race report today, but the race was cancelled, if you can believe it Shock It was the 5K "Cross du Larvotto" along the beach in Monaco and was cancelled not just because of the heavy rain but the waves that devoured more than half of the beach where part of the circuit was to lie.

Still, I was so pscyhed and ready that I just set out for a 5K of my own and made it in 35 minutes, a personal best. Considering this was under quite substantial rain and on slippery surface, I dare think I could easily have done better under normal circumstance. Smile

rhetorician · 06/11/2011 15:54

peach it was serviced in the summer and was great for about 3 months...

DrNortherner · 06/11/2011 15:50

Indeed futurity you have ended your race calender on a total high. Amazing stuff!

My last race of 2011 is looming so fingers crossed for a PB here too.

You are all an inspirational bunch.
