all welcome to come and join in - we talk a lot on here, and are always glad of new people to natter with about running (and everything else)

DH bought this none-wobbling backpack earlier this year:
backpack

It's a bikehut one - think Halfords own brand isn't it? (link is for Halfords anyway). It is smallish though.

Fanny, ordered the Garmin from Amazon for very weird price of £101.02.

Good luck to all doing GNR this weekend - having done London Marathon once before, I really cannot picture a bigger start field - but GNR is bigger isn't it?

This is what is happening in my neck of the woods this weekend relay - a relay involving 17 runners round the perimeter of Norfolk.

MoshiMoshi · 16/09/2011 14:09

Me too DrNo but I fear the worst. The Chilean story was a one-off that almost came from a story board.

DrNortherner · 16/09/2011 14:01

Thanks for the new thread Rhet Smile

I am so excited for GNR. My Sil is doing it and stressing about it too fanny, she too has a dodgy tum.....I am deffo going to do it next year I think she secretly wants to beat my time, and I secretly think she might, Damn her!

Dh runs and cycles with a camel back rucksack, he seems to manage OK. It fits all of his work gear in, except shoes - he leaves them at work.

I did 5k last night around the stray whilst ds played football with his club. Except I broke it up into intervals and did some very fast (for me) running. Got my pace down to 7.20m/m for all of about 200m!

Off topic I know but some news stories really get to you don't they? I am praying for those 2 miners left in that mine in Wales Sad

rhetorician · 16/09/2011 13:58

fanny that'd be great, actually - I'm going to town this afternoon and will look in a couple of shops. I need it...

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 13:15

Theres an article wiifit and rhet in one of the running mags about best running backpacks. Let me know if you want me to scan it.

Moshi That run tomorrow will be a walk in the park for you!

rhet take it easy!

MoshiMoshi · 16/09/2011 13:02

rhet - I use two backpacks with running. One better than the other but both very useful and adaptable - did daily 7M commutes with one and a 20M LSR with other to no ill effect. I can hunt out the names and descriptions for you if you like? Bike shops tend to be good at stocking non-wobbling backpacks as they can't destabilise you too much when cycling.

rhetorician · 16/09/2011 12:56

wiifitmama - I'm looking for similar so that I can run home from work and manage to carry my diary, phone, keys and sundry bits - standard backpacks move around too much, as I found out to my cost earlier this week. Will report back. Seriously, bike sprint home from work, quick drink of water and wee (first chance I've had since this morning) and now onto other bike to pick up dd...I'm shattered!!

MoshiMoshi · 16/09/2011 12:43

fanny - yesssss! Barely time to skim now school has started what with my running and Bootcamp and ballet Grin! V excited about the GNR though.

Piffpaffpoff · 16/09/2011 12:42

Just marking my place on the new thread. Scary to see my race creeping up the list! I went out and did a 'fast' shortish run last night (fast for me that is!). I was knackered the whole way round but my average speed was much faster than usual. Quite pleased with myself.

Best of luck to everyone doing the GNR on Sunday!

futurity · 16/09/2011 12:34

nope...have done a half marathon and got another one coming up. I keep entering the ballot for the VLM but no joy yet. I will get in though in next few years because I have entered so many times I have been allowed to carry on entering under the old scheme of 5 rejections and I am in. This years rejection (optimistic!) will be number 4!

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 11:48

Should read "bug bear" not big bear!!!

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 11:43

Sorry welcome tulip great time for training run - what you hoping to do HM in?

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 11:42

futurity have you done a marathon before?

Moshi you had a busy week this week?

Before I was going to Runnersneed I went to get food from sainsburys and spotted a travel belt for £5 which is perfect for my fags and Guinness for Sunday. Going to do short run with it on shortly to test it but it fits snugly into the small of my back so good find. I have also bought Snack size Snickers to eat as energy boost for GNR! They work best for me! Pity they weren't called Marathon anymore. Grin New hair bobbles also purchased, one big bear is if my hair isn't tight when running. All these little things make a difference don't they?!

futurity · 16/09/2011 11:25

I wish I wasn't on the mailing list for the VLM...they seem to be sending emails every few days at the moment which I know aren't letting me know whether I got a place but every time I see an email from them my heart leaps a little bit until I realise that I still have 2-3 weeks to find out about a place!

MoshiMoshi · 16/09/2011 10:53

Well done on new thread, rhet. Welcome to tulip and I may see you at the New Forest HM next weekend!

Recovery runs yesterday and today after my LSR. Fit in some select bits of Bootcamp today too but am really holding back on activities where I could turn an ankle or where I unnecessarily run around tiring myself out so I save myself for my quality session tomorrow: 3M W/U, 10M @ MP, C/D. Gulp.

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 10:17

ibby where did you order it from? you'll love it! DH started running again and I told him to take mine - he was a bit Hmm about it but was very enthusiastic about it when he came back in as he's doing run/walk and it made it so much easier.

ibbydibby · 16/09/2011 10:12

Garmin ordered...will be stalking our postie for next few days..pouring with rain now.

ibbydibby · 16/09/2011 10:02

Rhet hope you managed to get to work in the dry. Have had a sprinkling of rain here at around 8am, followed by dullness, until about 10 minutes ago when it started thundering. Quite a surprise as no lightning (yet), no rain, no thundery feel about the air......DH off camping for the weekend, hope it stays dry for them.

Garmin here I come..

futurity · 16/09/2011 09:49

I've woken up now and just got back from a short run...still snoozy though! I've got a Garmin 305 and 14cm wrist (I have randomly small wrists unlike the rest of me). Garmin fits fine even though it's huge. I do however now have a constant ache in my right wrist even when not wearing it due to the weight...I should really swap wrists but that would just be weird!

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 09:44

You may dare ask Ibby! it's a belt thingumajig to put hairspray Wink phone, jelly beans etc in whilst doing GNR. In USA bum bags are called fanny packs!Grin I used to work as cabin crew for Virgin and we had to wear a money belt - I still Blush remembering when some brash New York mafia type guy bellowed "I lurve ya fanny pack gal!!". I nearly killed him with the duty free cart then one of the girls told me what he meant!

ibbydibby · 16/09/2011 09:28

thanks fanny - dare I ask what a "fanny pack" is...? Now off to order Garmin.

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 09:20

Just on way to Runners Need to buy a "fanny pack"....

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 09:19

It would fit around a much smaller wrist too.
