Nursing home just called. MIL has Covid. DH cannot go for 14 days.
The residents are tested regularly. My husband was due to visit standing outside, while MIL would be within hearing distance in a heated conservatory with the door open.
He's has had to do a fair few visits trying to talk through a window, which was impossible as MIL has a weak voice from a stroke.
I am so upset for him. It's another step back. My MIL has not seen her only grandchild or me since March. This feels so inhumane

I'm so sorry. People in nursing homes and their relatives have suffered more than most this year.

If they're letting him in, they know the end is near, I'm afraid. We've just been through this with my daughter visiting her dad. Given his mum has Covid it's very likely he'll get it - he really needs to take precautions but expect the worst. It's hard for you, too, as really he needs to sleep somewhere separate to you. I'm so sorry, it's such a difficult time.

Thankyou for your kind words

I’m so so sorry. What a heartbreaking situation for everyone. ❤️

DH has been allowed into see her yesterday and today, wearing PPE. The doctor says she is dying. He's there again now with her.
I'm now worried that DH will get Covid.
DS is at home, as the entire yeargroup was sent home on Monday for a week.

I think something will happen re nursing homes soon - it's really come into prominence in the last few days. I think when it all started it seemed OK - all right, no contact during lockdown, best to protect them. But no-one imagined that 9 months on many residents (my father included) would still have had no contact with loved ones.

@Calcifer12 I would imagine MIL will be isolating in her room to prevent spread to other residents so I suppose it depends where her room is (my dm's is on the first floor)
It's a tough situation op and we're in the same position. There is talk of nominating one family to be regularly tested so that they can visit properly. We'd have to choose between me and dsis. The whole thing is a nightmare.

Can he still go to the window and phone her from there? So he's outside and she can see him while they talk?

I'm sorry op.
This situation is a absolutely shit.

I really feel for the elderly that are having to isolate from family. Thanks

I hope your mil recovers well
