Just had a phone call - it's covid

Nursing home just called. MIL has Covid. DH cannot go for 14 days.
The residents are tested regularly. My husband was due to visit standing outside, while MIL would be within hearing distance in a heated conservatory with the door open.
He's has had to do a fair few visits trying to talk through a window, which was impossible as MIL has a weak voice from a stroke.
I am so upset for him. It's another step back. My MIL has not seen her only grandchild or me since March. This feels so inhumane

Sorry for your loss @SomelikeitHoth 💐.

Of course you can talk about it on here. I lost my mum to covid last month and it is such a difficult time, prepare yourself that the funeral will feel very different as covid rules and restrictions will intrude in the normal proceedings.

@SomelikeitHoth

I'm sorry. I should have started a separate post with a warning . Admin please remove if needed
Thank you for posting. It's good to know about it.

Anyone reading this board has already had to learn to cope with some pretty rubbish things. We're tougher than average.

I also think it may be helpful to know in advance, but it is very sad. Flowers

I'm so sorry @SomelikeitHoth sending all my love and strength to your family Thanks

SomelikeitHoth · 27/11/2020 17:35

If it's ok to talk about bereavement ?
Be aware that with Covid, we were not allowed to ask for MIL's hair to be brushed or her nails done, once she had passed away.
Also, cannot have her dressed in some nice clothes. They will only place them in the coffin. I hope this might help anyone else prepare arrangements, at what is an overwhelming time.

DelphiniumBlue · 25/11/2020 22:52

This is so sad. Hoping DH can take comfort from the fact that he can with her.

LemonadeFromLemons · 25/11/2020 22:49

Sending you hugs. This has just happened to my family. If it helps at all the family member who visited the now deceased did not get covid despite being in the room with them for two hours (they were cautious though).

Miip · 25/11/2020 22:33

I'm so sorry for this utterly shitty situation. I'm glad your DH can be with her.

I am so sorry about your MiL. Thank goodness they are letting your husband see her.

Even if he does get the illness most people will be OK. Please try not to worry about him. He's younger and fitter.

(I've had a couple of my kids sent home at different times to SI - they and their classes have been fine....the virus hasn't spread through them and their classmates beyond the original person.)
