Lonely dad

My dad was bereaved a year ago and lives away from all his family . He calls me 3-4 times an evening and texts throughout the day. Same conversation repeated over and over and I get so stressed out. He doesn't really listen - just talks and is v v lonely. Won't listen to any of my suggestions to go out and meet people or do voluntary work or join a group ...what to do ?

I just came across your post and didn't want to run. My mum is just like this with my sister - texting constantly, calling loads, repeating herself, won't do anything to change her situation. Weirdly, I ring her every other day and that's fine.

Not sure what to advise you, as we've tried finding out about charities, book groups etc, and there's always a reason why she can't or won't go. Feel like she's waiting to die sometimes. It's so sad.

Is there any chance he would move closer to you? Assisted living place? Could you go visit and take him out a few places where he might meet people?
