Who wants a bet that the Manchester foiled attack was more Islamist terror?

While people are sympathizing over anti Semitic rappers can we bring our attention to the real product of the anti Semitic feeling in the UK. This is what globalise the intafada looks like.

A police car and a van and several officers stand guard by a police cordon in a city-centre location.

Plot targeting Manchester Jewish community disrupted, say police

Two men were arrested in Manchester on Sunday, say counter-terror police.

Meanwhile, there's a goady thread asking "Where do you think Jews came from".
Designed to cause division amongst the Mumsnet community.

I believe this is a subtle form of terrorism: An 'innocent' question that unsettled me as a Jew, given the current socio-politico climate.

I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that thread so I’m just quietly following it at the moment. Some of the posts on it are interesting.

Personally, I think it’s a bit over the top to compare the thread to a form of terrorism. Though of course I respect you are entitled to your opinion.

Name one Jewish or Christian religiously motivated terrorist attack of the last 30 years?. There is a long standing problem of Ilslamist terrorism (including the 7th October) that has to be a concern to governments world wide. It is important the police reveal the identities and motivations of the plotters as soon as possible as the British people and specifically the Jewish community need to know in terms of this country's safety. MI5 recognize Islamist terrorism as a a major threat yet we have a government that aims to play down the source of terrorism within this country which is imho is outrageous.

People seem to have more concern about US rappers than actually potential deaths of News on the UK. What does this say about anti aemitism in the UK now?

When the same person doesn't think that terrorism and ethnic cleansing by said terrorists should even be sanctioned absolutely I find it curious. I don't think I would find it as curious if they had no opinion on terrorism happening abroad but they seemed to have very strong feelings that it should not be discouraged by the British government. Why would you have strong feelings that some terrorism should be actively ignored and other terrorism brought to people's attention?

I never said that there was nothing to see, that was you. I said, it's bad, glad it was caught, speculation of an ongoing investigation should probably be avoided.

Edited

There are hundreds of threads about ongoing investigations on mumsnet. Do you go on all of them to lecture people about speculating and have a pop at the OP?

The problem with Islamic terrorism is that it is at an entirely different magnitude to other forms of harresment.....It is about mass murder. From 9/11 to October 7th we see the same pattern of Idmlamic terrorists trying to brutally murder as many innocents as possible. News are obviously in the front line now.

I think for too long we have done played Islamic terrorism for fear of offence and , yes, we can draw a correlation between attempts at killing Jews and the permissive anti Semitic environment that constant 'pro Palestinian ' marches are facilitating.

You find it curious that someone wants to talk about a foiled terrorist attack happening in their own country?
Especially since there was one in the very same city bit less than a year ago (the Heaton Park Synagogue attack), and another (foiled) one the year before that (planned mass shooting targeting a March against Antisemitism and a Jewish neighbourhood)?
Nothing to see here, hmm?

There's nothing to say about the foiled terrorist attack where speculation of an ongoing investigation should probably be avoided.

I think there's quite a bit to be said about someone who doesn't want terrorism challenged by the government on some occasions, but then wants to 'bring attention' to other potential acts of terrorism. It's quite curious. What is the thought process behind thinking that some terrorism should be actively ignored and other terrorism should be challenged?

Meanwhile in Canada ...

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and other politicians have condemned antisemitic violence after a shooting near a Jewish synagogue left a police officer critically injured.

The shooting took place outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, on Sunday night during Yom Kippur, the holiest night in the Jewish calendar.

Police have not provided a motive or said whether the synagogue was targeted, but said a suspect armed with a shotgun opened fire on a police officer stationed outside.

"Jewish people must be able to worship safely," Carney wrote on X. "To live free, open, proud Jewish lives."

The shooting occurred around 19:00 local time on Sunday night, Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) spokesperson Kristy Denette said on Monday.
The officer returned fire and another officer discharged their firearm as well, Denette said.

Asked whether the incident was being considered a terrorist attack, Denette said that "common sense would say that probably was the case".

Echoing Carney's condemnation, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he is "disgusted" by the shooting and that members of the Jewish community "have every right to gather and worship safely and without fear".

Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre wrote on social media that "this vile antisemitic violence in Canada must end" while urging Carney's government to "act now to protect our people".

And here is a lovely recent example from Germany - harassing a Jewish man outside a synagogue, doing the Hitler salute and later complaining about not being able to vote in local elections (in German):

What is there to say? It's bad, glad the government caught it before anything happened. We don't really know anything about it do we? It's probably why there isn't any threads about the 16yo polish boy who was caught last week planning a terrorist event, we don't know anything about it to comment on apart from terrorism is bad, glad he was caught.

The OP was on here last week starting a different thread blaming Islamists for the UK government taking a stance against terrorism. I'm sure you can see why it's pretty difficult to take their threads seriously.

If there's nothing to say you can always just not click on the thread.

Do you have any opinions on the planned attack on the Jewish community? Or are you just here to have a go at other posters.

About antisemitism in particular. But every single thread about antisemitism ends up with posters despreate to talk about Islamaphobia instead.

Of course it's Islam.

Looks like they should be trying to tackle Islamophobia at its source at the same time:
One mosque is attacked in Britain every five days, according to the British Muslim Trust, the government’s partner for monitoring anti-Muslim hatred. Attacks included acts of intimidation, violence, property damage, harassment, anti-Muslim hate speech, online abuse and vandalism.

So why not start a thread about that instead of trying to derail this one?

Christian places of worship are subject to criminal damage, vandalism, theft and burglary at increasing levels.

10 crimes a day at churches does not distract from concern about terrorist attacks on innocent Jewish people.

I think it’s fair to say that as Islamists and the far left have been very vocal about their feelings towards Jewish people they are likely suspects in this incident.

The Countryside Alliance’s latest investigation has revealed that in 2025 nearly 4,000 crimes were committed on church property as well as other religious premises.

Nope

Of course it will be. It always is

the state of fear our Jewish community is living is should be a national shame.

"Sources have told the BBC the suspected plot was "fairly imminent" and in the later stages of planning.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the government would "continue to do all in our power to address threats against our Jewish community".

She added: "We cannot expect our Jewish community to live behind higher walls.

"We must also tackle antisemitism at its source and root it out wherever it rears its head.""

So how do they plan to tackle antisemitism at its source and root it out wherever it rears its head?

I've seen it online, shown by some marchers, but largely ignored by others around them.
