Who wants a bet that the Manchester foiled attack was more Islamist terror?

While people are sympathizing over anti Semitic rappers can we bring our attention to the real product of the anti Semitic feeling in the UK. This is what globalise the intafada looks like.

A police car and a van and several officers stand guard by a police cordon in a city-centre location.

Plot targeting Manchester Jewish community disrupted, say police

Two men were arrested in Manchester on Sunday, say counter-terror police.

There's no universal definition of most things. What's your point? And what does any of that have to do with a planned antisemitic attack in Manchester?

Perhaps if you look at my original post to Mids, thinks might become a bit clearer as to you why I brought it up.

OnePeppyFatball · 25/09/2026 12:58

Why ask a load of questions and then dismiss it as irrelevant? What a waste of time.

Balonzee · 25/09/2026 12:52

Squeezingwildoranges · 25/09/2026 12:45

So what. It doesn't change the fact there is no universal definition of terrorism.

You do realise he probably wants to redefine terrorism so he can crack down on his opponents right?

Yes. It was about what was said, not who said it.

So you're happy to quote someone like that as long as it backs up your existing opinion.

You are absolutely right. It was the vice president but all he did was read out the presidents speech on his behalf so it was the presidents speech. Who said I was a fan. I was merely using his speech to point out that there is no universally accepted definition for terrorism.

The Columbian President wasn't at UNGA. Although I'm surprised your such a fan of him given his ties to Trump and Netanyahu.

Yesterday, at the UN General Assembly, in his speech, the Columbian President called for a common international definition of terrorism that is clear, precise, and compatible with international law. The fact that there isn't one is not because there hasn't been an attempt to define one, it is a lack of consensus. One of the sticking points is whether state actors should be included in that definition. Some agree and some don't. One thing that is clear is that the deliberate killing of civilians is an act of terrorism. So if we use that criterion alone, to answer your question, "Name one Jewish or Christian religiously motivated terrorist attack of the last 30 years?". I don't think the data storage on this forum is large enough to accommodate such a list.

Most terrorism in the UK is commited by the far right so if you are going to point fingers without evidence you would be better off pointing it at the fash.

Not true. Islamist terrorism is still a significantly bigger threat than far right.

Name one Jewish or Christian religiously motivated terrorist attack of the last 30 years?. There is a long standing problem of Ilslamist terrorism (including the 7th October) that has to be a concern to governments world wide. It is important the police reveal the identities and motivations of the plotters as soon as possible as the British people and specifically the Jewish community need to know in terms of this country's safety. MI5 recognize Islamist terrorism as a a major threat yet we have a government that aims to play down the source of terrorism within this country which is imho is outrageous.

People seem to have more concern about US rappers than actually potential deaths of News on the UK. What does this say about anti aemitism in the UK now?

It is really quite something to start saying the far right are a problem in terms of terrorism when you think back to the Manchester arena attack and the tube bombings ( and of.course recent synagogue bombings). Islamist terror is a clear and present threat to the UK (including from Iran). The people who down play the threat in my opinion are the same people who think Gaza is completely full of innocents.

How would you know that they go under the radar if nobody knows what they are up to? It sounds like made up nonsense to me but then again, I don't see a boogeyman behind every masjid.

Under your radar Debbie.

Counter Intelligence have the data. I'd trust them rather than a random poster on the Internet. They say the greatest terrorist threat is from extreme islamists. Glad they are in charge and not you. Attacks are foiled due to the hard work you think is made up nonsense.

That's not correct. It's about like 60-70% of terrorists in jail here are Islamic.

A much smaller proportion are far right.

Meanwhile, there's a goady thread asking "Where do you think Jews came from".
Designed to cause division amongst the Mumsnet community.

I believe this is a subtle form of terrorism: An 'innocent' question that unsettled me as a Jew, given the current socio-politico climate.

I only read the first page. I thought the OP started it in support of Jewish ties to Israel?

What are the 'other forms of harassment' that you are talking about? You can't be talking about the Jewish settler terrorism in the West Bank that isn't a 'form of harassment' Ed Miliband was clear 'The British government agrees that there is ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in areas of the West Bank, perpetrated by settler terrorists'.

This is the type of terrorism that you think should be ignored by the British government, the ethnic cleansing type, not 'harassment'.

It just doesn't make sense mids, you seem to be trying to down play the ethnic cleansing type of terrorism, openly stating that you think it should be ignored and it would seem calling it mere harassment, you feel so strongly that it should be ignored that you started a whole ranty thread on it. Now here you are complaining that terrorism is down played?

Isn't the thread on terrorist threats in this country? There are a whole lot ot things going on around the world and isn't it ok to just focus on terrorism in this country and the threat to people in the UK rather than always talking about West Bank/Gaza. Although I do realise the terrorists in Gaza were funded/supported by Iran but they aren't here.

The problem with Islamic terrorism is that it is at an entirely different magnitude to other forms of harresment.....It is about mass murder. From 9/11 to October 7th we see the same pattern of Idmlamic terrorists trying to brutally murder as many innocents as possible. News are obviously in the front line now.

I think for too long we have done played Islamic terrorism for fear of offence and , yes, we can draw a correlation between attempts at killing Jews and the permissive anti Semitic environment that constant 'pro Palestinian ' marches are facilitating.

And

https://www.mi5.gov.uk/threats-and-advice/terrorism-threat-levels

"Current national threat level
The threat to the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) from all forms of terrorism is SEVERE."

Fortunately, many plots or actions are uncovered and prevented. Talking about it shouldn't be shut down.

Ihatetomatoes · 24/09/2026 07:35

We all need to be aware of potential terrorist attacks in our own country.

There's nothing to say about the foiled terrorist attack where speculation of an ongoing investigation should probably be avoided.

I think there's quite a bit to be said about someone who doesn't want terrorism challenged by the government on some occasions, but then wants to 'bring attention' to other potential acts of terrorism. It's quite curious. What is the thought process behind thinking that some terrorism should be actively ignored and other terrorism should be challenged?

Its not unusual to wish to discuss a foiled terrorist attack in YOUR OWN COUNTRY. No matter who the terrorist represents and wants to kill. We are encouraged to report things in an attempt to foil these type of attacks. Thankfully it was prevented.

Why would anyone suggest talking about it is wrong. Its in the UK, this is a UK website.
