Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

1000 replies

mids2019 · 16/09/2026 16:19

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

That is exactly what Israel is counting on. Make Gaza totally uninhabitable, make life so desperately dangerous and horrendous for the remaining Palestinians that they be will "Encouraged to Voluntarily" emigrate. This is a classic example of using euphemistic language to make a totally egregious policy sound more acceptable to the public. In other words ethnic cleansing or forced displacement.

Obviously I don’t agree with forced displacement. But I also think people with young children should have options to leave

Squeezingwildoranges · 22/09/2026 11:34

OpheliaWasntMad · 22/09/2026 11:29

I didn’t say it was the solution. But I think it should be an option for those who choose. No one should be forced.

None of them would have chosen to. The fact that Israel has made Gaza unlivable, they may have no choice but to leave. That is being forced to leave.

How do you know none of those mothers with young children would have chosen to leave?
They have not had the option. Since Hamas took o er Gaza is blockaded by both Israel and Egypt. Understandably both countries are protecting themselves against infiltration by Hamas terrorist and suicide bombers .
It seems to me that Gazans are not being forced to leave but instead are being forced to stay.

OpheliaWasntMad · 22/09/2026 12:13

I’m not promoting forced displacement but I would support children and their carers leaving the area ( as happened in Ukraine)

( Although I can see that would be problematic for Hamas as they would lose their human sheilds )

The Ukranians will be able to go home once the hostilities are over and they didn't leave Ukraine because it was a stated goal of Russia. Encouraging voluntary emigration is a plan that Israel has declared numerous times. It is not a hypothetical plan. It has already been implemented but fortunately it hasn't got past phase one as no one is willing to implicate themselves in a crime against humanity.

And apparently you can't see that it would be problematic for the Palestinians when they wanted to return to their homeland.

I do understand that concern. I’m aware that approximately 850,050 Jews lived in Arab countries in 1948, but today fewer than 4,000 remain. So I do understand how groups can be forcibly expelled or “persuaded “ to leave.

I deliberately said “children and carers” should be allowed to leave the zone of conflict- not all Palestinians. And I made it clear it should be a choice. Children in WW2 were evacuated. I would like to see Palestinian children similarly evacuated with carers.

There won't be a homeland when they want to return. A nice Mediterranean resort for wealthy Israelis perhaps.

Isn't it just what every mother wants to :bring their traumatized children to a foreign country to live in a refugee camp, no money no husband and no chance of returning and reuniting with their (hopefully alive) husbands.

People have no fucking clue really what life would be like for them so they. As long as they clear out from Israel it's problem solved for so many.

What do you mean?

Is it because it has been leveled by Israeli bombs or what?

“People have no fucking clue really what life would be like for them “…. - are you suggesting Palestinian children would have a worse life if they were evacuated to a safer area until the war is over ? People didn’t say that about Ukrainians?

I think lots of Palestinian mothers might like to have the choice . No one should be forced to move but you seem very angry that Palestinians would even be given the option of moving their children away from the conflict.

At the moment there is no safe option for Palestinian children.

Evacuated where?

The UK would definitely approve of migrant Muslims arriving from Palestine.(!)
Can you imagine the threads here.
America: yeah I don't think so.

Look at the life Palestinian refugees have in Egypt and Lebanon, both are second class citizens with very little rights.

Do you know what life is like in a refugee camp? Because all these kids won't be in nice houses in new countries.

I'm angry that people think Palestinian children should be uprooted to live in horrific conditions instead of looking at the root cause which is Israel should stop bloody killing them

You'd think families would be desperate to leave wouldn't you?

We have been told since Oct 7th that most Palestinians didn't vote for Hamas and most Palestinians don't support Hamas so if that's the case you would logically assume that the vast majority of Palestinians would be very glad to leave Gaza and be free from the terrorist regime which has never protected them or improved life for them, under which they have been subjugated and had to live in fear of for 20 years.

The terrorist regime which has intermittently caused Israel to conduct operations in Gaza to eliminate terrorists causing civilian deaths, culminating in this current devastating war where they were used as human sacrifices for a war everyone of them knew Hamas couldn't win, which has destroyed Gaza leaving them with no infrastructure or future.

Surely most Palestinians were outraged and horrified at seeing murdered, raped, mutilated and dismembered bodies from Israel being paraded around Gaza, and horrified that a baby, young kids, teens, women and the elderly were brought into Gaza after being kidnapped from Israel and some Palestinians were keeping them hostage in their houses?

They know they and their kids are constantly at risk while Hamas has control.

Why on earth wouldn't they want to leave?

Like refugees from other countries at war like Syria for example. They had to leave their land which they would have had a deep connection to as is their culture (same as the majority of Arabs in the region) and flee. Many never returned to this day.

Perhaps someone could explain why they view Palestinians differently?

Aren't they in horrific conditions now?

Gaza is destroyed. No infrastructure. Most living in tents. An army of 'genocidal baby killers' surrounding them with the power to starve and kill them whenever they want.

It will take years to rebuild Gaza. Why do you think refugees from every other war become refugees?

Try and at least make it make sense, FGS!

I am sure many of the parents want to get their children away from the conflict . The “horrific conditions” you mention might still be less horrific than living in a war zone .
Your anger is odd. Keeping Palestinian children safe doesn’t mean that people can’t also look at the root causes of the problem.

Odd.

Why is it odd to be angry that children should have to leave their families and what little is familiar to them to become second class citizens in a country that doesn't want them to live in a diseased refugee camp without their dads because Israel won't stop bombing them (which is the root cause of the problem.)

Would you accept that life for Israeli children or British children.

Lovely to talk about them being evacuee children but we both know that's not the future that lies ahead

It’s odd that your priority is not the protection of children ( for the short term ) but the vilification of Israel.
