Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

LOL how well he knew better than to harangue the concert goers of the UAE from the stage there! No fool he!

Edited

Hilarious.

So basically when confronted with an answer to whataboutery some people will still find a negative.

It's not unique at all. We have close diplomatic and military ties with the Saudis, who have killed huge numbers of civilians in Yemen and caused massive epidemics there. Incidentally, they are also an intolerant and oppressive regime (you could even call it apartheid). There is no freedom of worship unless you are the right type of Muslim and obviously there is political persecution and persecution of LGB people. Where's the shouting? The performative chanting at pop concerts? The marches?

Exactly.
We all know what the unique thing is about the war in Gaza.
Spouting any other reason is just ridiculous.

Just like we all know why there are no massive bandwagons for Sudan, Uighars, Yemen, Afghanistan etc.

People just don't like to admit it.
At least have the courage to own your hate. Or at least recognise the jew hate might be there unconsciously.

That record of jew hate is being extremely tiring. There are plenty of Jews also against the genocide in Palestine. It’s hardly controversial to be against it, though posters on MN makes a good job pretending it is.

“Aww but what about Yemen”. Honestly so tired of that line being rolled out over and over again on here.

And you really think it's just a coincidence that he didn't do the same thing at the UAE concert? It's not.

Here's a clue for you: why do companies that make a big thing about celebrating Pride in the UK, the EU and the US all ignore it completely in their Middle Eastern branches?

He cancelled the concert and refuses to play there.
He could have taken the money and not mentioned any issues that could offend
But keep looking for the negative and you will find it

How much money is enough money? Ed Sheeran’s net worth is $400 million dollars. He was going to lose money and opportunities “Sorry friend I need more money and opportunities. I don’t have enough.” Even on a basic level this demonstrates his character to abandon all morality and principles to chase money. That is what he will have to live with, keep supporting those billionaire capitalists that make life harder every day for working people. In History speaking out would be being murdered, imprisoned or worse, the point is he had a platform, so what he would lose a few million to stand by his friend of 13 or so years but no he took the cowards way out. Even if he didn’t take a stance on the genocide but just said “I support my friends right to free speech.” That would have been okay but this is just another demonstration of the abuse of power
“None of us will be free until we are all free.”

So many people latch onto the findings though and repeat the line about "the UN calls it a genocide" ... no they don't.

Rather than use the term "alleged genocide" people prefer to think they know it is one for a fact. When even an international court of law still has to come to a decision on it (& likely won't decide for years) as it's such a complex issue.

Out of interest, is your opinion that it is not a genocide?

Sorry for tiring you.

Explaining it's not a genocide is very tiring, so I do sympathise.

Sure, Israelis are against the war. Still doesn't explain the West's obsession with it.

But if it's a genocide you are after to protest about, Sudan is that a way ➡

I think one of the reasons we are “obsessed” like you put it about the genocide in Palestine, is that the perpetrators are a people we think of as part of the west (they are in the Eurovision!) and we have a close relationship with Israel. It is somehow less shocking I personally admit to hear about a civil war on the African continent.
I think people felt similarly during Apartheid in SA if you are old enough to remember when Mandela was in prison.

Since all that Palestinians need to do to stop Israel attacking them is to stop killing Israelis, it doesn’t fit any serious definition of genocide.

When do you think this genocide started? Could it have anything to do with the Hamas attack in October 2023?

The Israelis and Palestinians have been killing go each other for decades. Don’t be simplistic about things.

When did Hamas fire the last missile into Israel?
When was the last Israeli civilian killed by a Palestinian in Gaza?

That’s a different point. Lots of countries have ongoing conflicts over land. Armenia lost Nagorny Karabakh in September 2023, after decades of ongoing conflict, and the entire population of Stepanakert fled in less than 48 hours.

Oddly enough, nobody is calling that genocide. It’s certainly ethnic cleansing - but as usual, No Jews No News.

In the case of Gaza, there was not a single Israeli there until after Hamas attacked Israel, kidnapped civilians including old people and children and brought them into Gaza as prisoners.

So tell me: at what stage did the conflict between Israel and Hamas become a genocide? And what could Israel have done to free its hostages that would not have been “genocide”?

For a start they could have taken the deal that was offered to them immediately after Oct 7 where Hamas offered them the civillian hostages with no strings attached?

Stop it with your no Jews, no news nonsense. It’s just trying to shut criticism of Israel. Doesn’t work anymore.

If he stay in Europe, I cannot recall their names, but the Bosnian Serb leaders were convicted for genocide and crimes against humanity after the yogoslavian war. There was no Jews involved as I recall, but still news.

In regards to your comments there was no Israelis in Gaza before the Hamas attack… well that makes me wonder if you are currently doing your GCSEs or something.

And the request for the 1st pro Palestinian match in London? On 7th Oct, just hours after Hamas attacked.

Way before Israel even started it's counter actions and whilst the blood of those innocent kids just having fun at a peace dance festival was still warm. Who on this board marched then?

I will wait to see the outcome of the international court case as they will have access to evidence we will never see.

If they find it is a genocide then I will accept the findings because I accept their findings. I’m not assuming it’s a genocide at the moment though.

Yeah right. Hamas spent years and massive resources on an attack that lasted 24 hours and then they were just going to hand the hostages back and never do it again? When they had specifically said they were going to do more such attacks in the future? What would have been the point of the attack at all then?

Look it up. They even removed the (Jewish) dead from their graves when they left in August 2005. On Oct 6th 2023 there was not a single Jew in all of Gaza (which makes the claim that it’s Israel that is the apartheid state laughable as well) and hadn’t been for 18 years.
