Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

mids2019 · 16/09/2026 16:19

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

The poor Israelis have tried so hard to show the Palestinians in Gaza that they can have a much better life if they just leave. They’ve shown them that hospitals and schools are not safe as they might be blown up at any time. They’ve shown them that their homes are not safe because even if you’re asleep at night a massive bomb may be dropped on the building killing everyone, men, women and children. They’ve shown them that it is not even safe for the children to play football on the beach because a ship might bomb you. They’ve tried to show them that there is no electricity, water or food in Gaza. They’ve tried to show them that babies aren’t even safe because they might be shot in the head while breastfeeding. They’ve even tried to show them that even Israeli prisons aren’t safe because they might accidently be sexually violated to death. What more do the Israelis have to do to show the Palestinians how dangerous Gaza is. Surely they would be so much happier building a new life in the malaria infested swamps of South Sudan. Perhaps they would be happier going to Libya where there is a fortune to be made in the slave trade which is flourishing since Gaddafi was overthrown. Must be so frustrating for the Israelis that no one can see how kind they have been trying to show the Palestinians how much better life would be if they just voluntarily emigrated.

I know @Squeezingwildoranges it's just one of life's great conundrums. We are not going to let you leave but we are going to make life as absolutely shit and danger as possible if you stay.

Strange how quite a few Palestinians have managed to leave Gaza during the war, and end up in the West like Ms Rachel's Gazan friend Motaz Azaiza.

The ugly truth about Gaza reporting that most media ignore

Sorry to disappoint but I haven't fallen for terrorist propaganda at all, and certainly do not believe there is a genocide in Gaza.

I was asking what you think, not what i believe.

I think I 'get it' with a bit more clarity than you, who seems to have decided that Palestinian children should stay to live and die in what you believe is a 'genocide' so they aren't 'ethnically cleansed' or rather granted safe refuge in a safe country as civilians in every other war is history have been, aside from this particular one!

Did you just link the NYPost and think you "get it" .

Ok so.
Good luck with that.

You'd think families would be desperate to leave wouldn't you?

We have been told since Oct 7th that most Palestinians didn't vote for Hamas and most Palestinians don't support Hamas so if that's the case you would logically assume that the vast majority of Palestinians would be very glad to leave Gaza and be free from the terrorist regime which has never protected them or improved life for them, under which they have been subjugated and had to live in fear of for 20 years.

The terrorist regime which has intermittently caused Israel to conduct operations in Gaza to eliminate terrorists causing civilian deaths, culminating in this current devastating war where they were used as human sacrifices for a war everyone of them knew Hamas couldn't win, which has destroyed Gaza leaving them with no infrastructure or future.

Surely most Palestinians were outraged and horrified at seeing murdered, raped, mutilated and dismembered bodies from Israel being paraded around Gaza, and horrified that a baby, young kids, teens, women and the elderly were brought into Gaza after being kidnapped from Israel and some Palestinians were keeping them hostage in their houses?

They know they and their kids are constantly at risk while Hamas has control.

Why on earth wouldn't they want to leave?

Like refugees from other countries at war like Syria for example. They had to leave their land which they would have had a deep connection to as is their culture (same as the majority of Arabs in the region) and flee. Many never returned to this day.

Perhaps someone could explain why they view Palestinians differently?

How strange.

I can open it direct from your quote and I don't subscribe to the Financial Times.

It's not behind paywall.

Come on - Al Jazeera, Middle East Eye, (can see your narrative) even HRW work off Hamas information but that article does not not dispute the FT one.

Definitely can’t read the Financial Times article though, says subscribe to unlock 🤷‍♀️

Ok if you believe that any non European news outlet must be anti Israel here’s the bbc https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-68967397

they’re quoting the United Nations btw, who are saying that crossings are closed and humanitarian aid blocked (by Israel). It’s a fact that Israel have been controlling the border crossings with only brief openings for years. Israel don’t even deny it!

The UN says Gaza's main aid arteries are "choked off" after troops shut the key crossing with Egypt.

Can’t read that behind the paywall. Can you read it or just the headline?

I can find links till the cows come home.

But ultimately why should people leave. Obviously if they want to they should be allowed, but people only want to leave because of what Israel is doing.

Honestly, does a wealthy rock star or film star's opinions make any difference to what is going on in the world? The whole of the celeb world in the US told everyone to vote for Kamala and she lost in a landslide. Then you had the trendy celebs backing Corbyn who also lost in a landslide.

They are big questions for someone who 90 minutes ago didn't realize that Gaza was under a blockade preventing them from leaving.

I don't think all posters agree it's a genocide yet so you are very brave to say it is .

I'm not really sure what you are asking.
The facts are that there are very few ways Palestinians from Gaza can leave : medical evacuations, Visa sponsorships for study are two I know of but they still have to be approved by Israel.

Yes many Israeli politicians have spoken about a mass ethnic cleansing from the area but that is not actually in motion yet.

And yes Israel is still dropping bombs and killing civilians every day.

Do you get it now?

I wonder what safe Jewish country Israelis could migrate to if under threat? Answer: zero. Whereas there are plenty of safe Muslim countries (about 98% in that region) Palestinians could migrate to, but nobody wants them. The truth is that since the state of Israel was established, there has been ceaseless war waged on it and Arab states used it as a pawn to display as an open wound because they simply cannot tolerate a piece of land the size of Wales not being Arab or Muslim. Now they rather like the idea of opening their countries to Western tourism, like Saudi Arabia, not knowing when the oil is going to run out and the Hamas terrorists funded by Iran have become a thorn in their sides

I asked who you think is preventing them?

On one hand Israel is keeping them trapped so they can genocide them, on the other Israel is trying to force them out thereby ethnically cleansing them.

Which is it?

Pretty sure it is Israel. 🤷‍♀️

israel controls the perimeter fence around Gaza and doesn’t let Palestinians leave. Israel closed the Rafeh crossing to Egypt a long time ago. People in the Gaza Strip are trapped. West Bank not much better. Israeli controlled checkpoints and restrictions for anyone who wants to leave.

Really?

This is from Oct 2023 btw.

Israel’s Netanyahu lobbied EU to pressure Egypt into accepting Gaza refugees

Israel controls the land in Gaza that connects to Egypt. If Palestinians tried to cross into Egypt they would be shot and killed by Israel before they got anywhere near the border.

Why aren't Egypt calling for a safe corridor with international oversight, to allow Gazans to leave then?

Have they?

They seem more concerned about 'liquidating the Palestinian cause' (which has always been about annihilating Israel), than Palestinian lives.

You’re wrong to say that mothers in a war zone shouldn’t even have the CHOICE to take their children to a safer place . ( Are you really suggesting that refugee camps are worse than staying in a war zone )
No one was talking about forced displacement.

Give them the choice, fair enough.

Where is that safer place and what does it look like do you think?

Israel is not letting them into Israel. Egypt and Jordan likewise.
I do think the children should be given safe passage out of Gaza by Egypt while the conflict is ongoing.

It’s odd that your priority is not the protection of children ( for the short term ) but the vilification of Israel.
