Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

1000 replies

mids2019 · 16/09/2026 16:19

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

Perhaps people don't care to answer your question as you said calling whats happening in Gaza a conflict is like calling the Holocaust a gas leak.

Or maybe thats just me?

Not just you … all credibility lost at the point of using such a vile simile.

Tell me why saying killing 3% of Gazas children is horrific and needs to stop is complex? I asked the question first. You give a whole list of questions but not a single answer as to why it's 'complex' to say stop killing kids? Talk me through it dairydebris, tell me exactly why it's so complex to say that it's horrific and needs to stop.

Because DeterminedRat, unlike on 7 October, the children were not the targets. Hamas were. Hamas started the war, knowing that their children would be killed, as they have been, in every single war ever in human history. The question of whether starting and prosecuting a war in this situation is morally right is extremely complex. No one wants children to die, on either side. I don't believe you want Israeli children dead, and you surely shouldn't believe I want Palestinian kids dead. It's pretty universal to most people. Apart from terrorists and crazy religious supremacists. Who both have complex narratives of competing truths and suffering. It's complex. Its thousands of years of complexity.
Now you tell me how its simple. You tell me how the IDF could have got Hamas without getting children. You tell me if you think they simply shouldn't have tried. You tell me what you think this easy, simple non complex answer is, genius?

OpheliaWasntMad · 18/09/2026 20:47

October 7 is a turning point.
The response was disproportionate.
But stop pretending that the wrongdoing is on one side.

OpheliaWasntMad · 18/09/2026 20:45

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 18/09/2026 19:39

Yes, there were. That was 3 years ago. The reaction has been a genocide. The victims have more than been avenged. It's disproportionate.

There were people in my area celebrating in the street the day after October 7th.
That experience has changed me.
And I am someone who has had friends with students in Bir Zeit university and has stayed with Palestinians in the 1980’s.
I could send you the photos but it would be “outing”
Suffice it to say that as someone of a Northern Irish Catholic heritage I have come to despise extremism and terrorism and people who jump on fashionable bandwagons.

Anyone care to offer an answer to this question.

Zionism has different connotations for different people. What would you call the Zionism that supports Netanyahus beliefs, that include the ethnic cleansing of gaza to another person's Zionism who doesn't support genocide or ethnic cleansing?

Perhaps people don't care to answer your question as you said calling whats happening in Gaza a conflict is like calling the Holocaust a gas leak.

Oh honestly don't be so simplistic.

Perhaps you could talk us through the military strategy you'd use to separate the terrorists who committed October 7 and vowed to do it again and again? How you'd get those ones apart from the innocent ones, although they didn't wear uniforms, told their people not to evacuate to safe areas. Perhaps you could tell us how to get terrorists out of tunnels or in fact how to find the tunnels without using explosive. Perhaps tell us how many civilians you'd find appropriate numbers of collateral damage before killing a terrorist? Is it 0? Then please tell us how you'd get to that terrorist without hurting innocents amongst whom he is hiding?

Or would you perhaps just leave Hamas to it in case any women or children are killed in getting to them?

Are any wars justifiable? Really? Because there will always be innocent tragedy accompanying wars. Is war ever acceptable?

There is absolutely nothing simple about this whole thing. Its complex.

Perhaps you tell us why you think its so simple?

Maybe you can talk us through the complexity of killing 3% of the children in Gaza? What was so complex about those children that means we all have to be so careful when we talk about their killings? Why we can't just say this is really bad, this is horrific, without having to worry about whether or not the country who killed all of those children looks bad and making sure that everybody feels comfortable.

Rather than just referring to it as complex tell us why it's so complex. What do you find so complex about the killings of these poor children. Nobody seemed to find the killing of 43 Israeli children too 'complex' to talk about, too complex to call bad, so why is it that the killing of 20,000+ children has to be done so sensitively and carefully so as not to hurt anyone's feeling?

Hamas was formed as a direct response to Israeli occupation of Palestine. They are a resistance group that committed terrible crimes that were rightfully condemned by all world leaders. Israel continues to have the support of the UK and US governments despite committing war crimes that are documented by legitimate scholars and groups across the world. They have greater military power and are quite happily obliterating Palestinians and Lebanese, as they have done for decades. They continue their occupation, they continue to murder Palestinians, they continue to hold (and abuse and rape) Palestinians hostages that outnumber by thousands the hostages that were taken on October 7th. Israels actions predate and postdate October 7th. They are clear aggressors, so powerful that they have billionaires protecting them from rappers in America.

It's easy to sit here now and say you would have been on the side of Nelson Mandela (who was labeled a terrorist at the time and sent to prison for being in armed resistance and building and planting bombs), or the civil rights moment in America, or the suffragettes (who also planted bombs) or whatever. But judging by many of the Israel sympathetic comments here, you would have sides with the powerful aggressor to maintain the status quo. It's harder to stand up and be counted when it actually is happening

.
Another example of how people can acknowledge Palestinian suffering but still struggle to recognise Israel’s security concerns.
Ive been to Israel, Lebanon, Gaza back in the 80s and the fear of terrorism was tangible as was the hatred from Arabs towards Westerners and Israel.
You can condemn Israel’s actions without pretending its security concerns don’t exist.
It is possible ….if you have a fair and open mind.

Lovelyworld1 · 18/09/2026 19:45

Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups deliberately killed civilians and took hostages on 7 October. Those actions provide evidence that Hamas has been willing to commit serious atrocities against Israeli civilians. If they had greater military capability they would quite happily obliterate Israel and all civilians.
If the left virtue signalling celebrities acknowledged this I would have more time for them.
Its always Gaza good Israel bad with them
I think these famous people just try to get more famous/ relevant. I wish they would acknowledge the complexity rather than treating one entire population as the villain and the other as completely blameless.

So you’re saying what, that we tell the Palestinian to save the sob story for the therapist.

Still sounds brutal to me.

The Palestinians are the actual victims of the actual genocide.

GeneralPeter · 18/09/2026 17:50

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 18/09/2026 17:19

It's not Palestinians who have continued to build illegal settlements on Israeli land for decades and allowed their police force to routinely harass Israeli citizens and shoot dead children and families at random. It's not Palestinians who have attempted a genocide on Israel.

The number who died on October 7th is a tiny fraction of the civilians the IDF has murdered in cold blood.

That would be a brutal way to speak to a distressed Palestinian, even after the invasion of Israel and massacre of civilians there.

Who's asking Jews to quit Israel? What's the point of your post other than being quite derogatory of non Jewish people living in the region?

All the failed states in the Middle East have been turned into failed states by the West. Much easier to control.

The thinking seems to be that if Israel were perfect everything would be fine. Or maybe if Israel conceded on every negotiation point it would be fine. In 1967 maybe they should have just sat there and let the Arab states annihilate them.

It’s laughable to suggest that the Arab states, Iran and the Palestinians themselves have absolutely no culpability here.

1967 was a simple land grab. The idea that the other armies were preparing for war against Israel is nothing more than propaganda. I know Israel have a good army but no one could seriously believe that it faced 3 armies preparing for battle and the war was over in 6 days. No one is stupid enough to believe that.

I don't believe for one second you'd talk to a friend like this.
I definitely wouldn't.

If someone felt that their feelings were so important that other people shouldn't speak about a humanitarian crisis for fear of upsetting them, we probably wouldn't be friends.
