Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

Well done, I'm sure the people starving in Gaza will be crying tears of gratitude that you wasted perfectly good food. You truly are A Better Person than the rest of us, especially those monsters who are being complicit in genocide by taking life-saving medication.

Why are the people starving in Gaza. According to Israel, there is no famine and food is being allowed in.

It's a matter of principle and I was furious with myself, as was my daughter, for not checking the label more carefully. We generally don't throw food but I have no problem with the supermarket having to throw away unsold Israeli produce that's rotten on the shelves. Perhaps it will make them think twice about their suppliers.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Its beyond satire.

God this is absolutely hilarious. Save Palestinians by throwing away mangos!!! How satisfying! This is beyond satire... thanks Oranges!

It does come across as irrational and hysterical.
( Like so much of the discourse on here)

You're right. It is impossible to boycott everything from Israel totally. We can all do our bit though but sometimes things do get under the radar, especially when they are purposefully mislabeled to avoid the boycott. Recently I bought some mangoes from Brazil. A few days later I went and bought what I thought were the same mangoes but when I got home my daughter pointed out they were produce of Israel. Straight in the bin which was pointless as I had already paid the money but as a matter of principle, there is no way anyone in my family or even friends would eat such a thing. People might argue it is performative and will have no effect on the Israeli economy but it is a personal choice and gives me peace of mind. I also get an incredible feeling of satisfaction when I see someone else pick up an avocado, look at the label and then immediately put it down to go looking for the Peruvian ones. It may have no consequence on the Israeli economy but it is another small way to send the message.

Still don't understand why you couldn't eat it. Makes no logical sense unless you have some sort of visceral hatred for Israelis that would make you ill.

SharonEllis · 25/09/2026 10:18

What principle is that? Wasting food? You had already touched the thing Israeli hands had touched, what difference would it have made to eat it? Is it a fear of contamination? Completely perplexed by this.

It's not the fact it has touched Israeli hands, it is the fact that it comes from stolen land and the profits would go to support a brutally oppressive regime. I've never claimed to be a radical BDSer but if there is an alternative product that does the same job, I'll always choose that.

Stolen land? What if it comes from e.g. Tel Aviv?

Squeezingwildoranges · 25/09/2026 10:31

SharonEllis · 25/09/2026 10:20

So you can't eat something touched by Israeli hands but you can use tech made by Israeli hands. You've already explained its not the money that's the issue as you had paid for the mangoes. Please explain as Im sure you're thinking will be helpful for the many trying to navigate how to boycott without boycotting in order to free Palestine.

Over 80% of total Palestinian exports are sold directly to or re routed through Israel so it's quite possible the mangoes you chucked were grown by Palestinian farmers.

I have no intention of changing any of my meds. Thanks all the same. And you should probably ask if there's a phone or computer which doesn't have parts or chips made in Israel.

Or I can buy second hand and change phones less frequently. Better for the environment. The phones out there already I can't change that but I can stop it from going to landfill and that's a win.

My statins and another medication I'm on are made by Teva an Israeli pharmaceutical company. I suppose this makes me "complicit" in "genocide."

You know you can specifically tell your doctor not to prescribe any medicines from a particular company if another brand is available. Sandoz is a good one for Statins and it means you won't be complicit in genocide.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 25/09/2026 10:12

If they're going to do it properly they should die for Palestine by coming off their meds.

This is quite radical thinking. Most people are ok with just doing what they can. For example if your statins are made by Teva you can ask your pharmacist if there is an alternative, if there is great, if not then you tried.

It's the same with any cause, the environment for example, most people would advocate buying second hand where you can or avoiding unnecessary car use. There is no need to give yourself 40 lashes because you are running late for work and you drive instead of walking or taking the bus. If everybody makes small changes then those small changes add up.

I really don't like the idea that if you can't do something perfectly then don't bother trying at all. Very few of us are perfect at anything.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 25/09/2026 10:08

The profits go to the IDF.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 25/09/2026 10:07

What did you use to type that. If it's a phone it will have had parts made in Israel which makes you complicit. Sorry about that.

Boycott Israel - A Simple Boycott List https://share.google/BfJ5NRsSNrnCLYleT
A complete list of everything you have to boycott if you're going to stay true to your principles. Some of them might involve never using a computer or an android phone. They say to keep taking your meds though even if they're made in Israel. Lol.
