OP Liz Truss was not Britain (although arguably she did less harm to Britain than Netanyahu has done to Israel) and Netanyahu's government is not Israel, let alone the wider Jewish diaspora.

It's a shameful moment and it will take a lot to rebuild relations with Israel.

What relations? Netanyahu does what he wants whether in Iran or the illegal settlements.

I don't care if someone is our closest ally, if they commit crimes against humanity, we should not stand behind them.

Frankly I don't want Israel as an ally any more because I don't want us as a country to be associated with them or their actions as things stand.

My views on this have nothing to do with Judaism. I don't support any extremest regime as an ally, whether that's Afghanistan, North Korea, Israel, Iran. Region is irrelevant.

I suggest that supporting the Government of Israel is supporting Extremism.

@mids2019 could you break down your claim that the government are siding with islamists through their sanctions on the illegal settlements in the West Bank? It's a bold claim to suggest the UK government are siding with extremists so I'm interested in hearing your evidence.

I suggest that for some it has been 'convenient' to conflate opposition to the actions of the state of Israel with antisemitism and sadly the Jewish community are now suffering as a result.

Is there really anyone who can justify the behaviour of Jewish Settlers in the West Bank as both Moral and Legal, if so please do so.

I disagree, and I think it is dangerous to suggest that the evils of anti-semitism either here or abroad should restrict the government from taking a position on the actions of Israel.

Conflating the two is what leads idiots into believing that the actions of Israel must therefore reflect on, or are somehow the responsibility of British Jews who are not themselves Israeli.

These are two separate things.

I do recognise that anti-semitism is increasing in the UK, especially it seems in universities. No one should assume that a person is Jewish supports the actions of the Netanyahu government in Israel, any more than presuming a U.S citizen supports Trump. The two should not be conflated.

Ed Milliband believes as I do that Israel has a death wish and is trying to stop the country killing itself.

Israel hasn't been sanctioned.

Illegal West Bank settlements have been sanctioned.

The government represent the nation. Most Brits are aghast at the Palestinian genocide. It's over time for the government to take action.

The government is not siding with islamists, that is a ridiculous statement to make.

It is taking a stance against genocidal maniacs on behalf of innocent children and families. It has taken too long for this government to acknowledge Israel’s brutal wrongdoings and a few sanctions doesn’t go anywhere near far enough.
