Good point. It’s pretty stark isn’t it? Absolutely nothing to do with the survival of Israel or safety of Israelis and completely unjustifiable behaviour. If people are defending settler violence and condemning our government for taking a stand against it, their moral character is plain to see.

This is actually a useful litmus test for whether pro-Israel posters and commentators have any ethical compass whatsoever. Anyone opposed to this can safely be ignored on the Middle East altogether.

Im guessing they haven't came back as their trusted allies somehow have missed this thread and the majority here don't agree with them. Usually the pro Israeli government contingency are all over these threads with their never ending cries of antisemitism if you so much as show a shread of sympathy for the people of Palestine or the west bank.

Our government should be siding with the only country in the region which is a genuine democracy and gives its citizens decent rights, not with a group of people so violent that their Muslim allies and neighbours try to avoid letting them in.

That’s a bit of a strange statement. I mean we all know the scale of deaths in this conflict and what proportion have been inflicted by Israelis on Palestinians and vice versa. Yet it is the Palestinians you characterise as “so violent.”

I thought he was very coherent and correct in what he said in a bbc interview this morning. Ultimately the settlements break international law. It wouldn’t be right to sit back and watch that happen.

UK Jews and let’s face it even a lot of Israeli Jews are not responsible for this. But Israel needs to be held accountable for facilitating and encouraging it. There will be no chance of peace and a two state solution if this continues.

Ed Milliband was quite clear that this is nothing to do with U.K. Jewish people and he believes this stance doesn’t increase a threat to them.

Theres a lot of things which the U.K. has done which could be said to increase the general risk to U.K. citizens but it has still been the right thing to do…..supporting Ukraine for one.

Given what the US and allies (including us) did in Afghanistan after a handful of attacks, I can't see how we can criticize Israel for reacting like this to Gaza after not the worst atrocity they committed, but the years of attacks beforehand.

I really don't like Netenyahu. But even he isn't on the same level of evil as Hamas. Not that the leaders of Hamas are in Gaza any more of course - they provoked a predictable reaction then scarpered, leaving the poorer people to suffer the consequences.

I wish Israel would stop now - in fact I wish they'd stopped a long time ago. But the heaviest blame for the suffering in Gaza lies with Hamas.

Exactly. It’s absolutely bizarre that at the same time as Israel is trying to provoke a standoff over the Falklands, everyone is telling us the UK won’t survive if the Israeli’s withdraw defence intelligence liaison. It’s all so confused.

The Israeli government have brought this on themselves by failing to act against settler terrorism and tacitly aiding and abetting their terrorism. Even the US is starting to have a hard time defending it.
