Have Hamas seen sense and realised there is little hope for their death cult? Is this is a significant moment towards peace?

So explain it to me as if I was a 6 year old. What did your post mean ?

T'was a throw-away tongue-in-cheek remark. I guess doesn't come across well in text. Will remember to put an emoji next time.

Yes I agree, the word 'jihad' is hardly shrounded in mystery. Perhaps it's work-related, why they live there.

So explain it to me as if I was a 6 year old. What did your post mean ?

I did look it up, or try to, to confirm what the definition is. To try to understand what your post was saying. Because believe it or not, I am a good faith poster.

For example, Jihadist means something different in GB news comments than what it would in a theology discussion. And I don't know that much about Iranian Sharia law. Or any of the versions of Sharia that is used in the various Gulf States.

In a GB news comments post, such a comment could be taken to mean " All Muslims are dishonest", or variations of that, in a dog whistle sort of way.

In the same way the term " There is no love like Christian love" changes meaning depending on where and to who it is said.

Just trying to get a handle on where you are coming from in this thread. That is all.

Yes this seems to be one of Trump's embellishments/ lies. It's fair to say that Netanyahu was not "very happy" with the deal he presented.

I posted Netanyahu's response on social media yesterday when he said the Trump administration “sent us a draft. We did not agree. It is not our draft. We sent our comments.
“This is our position. We stand firm on our interests, I believe both wisely and resolutely.”

JadeHare · 05/08/2026 11:53

Looks like this plan is going nowhere. From the Independent 15 minutes ago:

“Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed significant doubt over Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza, stating that Israel has not agreed to the proposed terms for disarming Hamas and will not withdraw from the Palestinian enclave until the group is completely disarmed.
This statement directly contradicts Trump's earlier announcement that Israel was 'very happy' with a deal he presented as a 'major milestone,' which he suggested would involve Hamas disarming and Israel withdrawing from Gaza in phases.
Netanyahu clarified that the draft peace proposal from the 'Board of Peace' was not Israel's and that they had submitted their comments, reiterating that Israeli forces would not retreat from their current lines in Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed.
Hamas, while rejecting the term 'disarmament,' has indicated a willingness to hand over its weapons for storage under a US-backed Palestinian administration, but only after Israel ceases operations and withdraws its forces in line with last year's ceasefire.
Other Israeli officials, including energy minister Eli Cohen and defence minister Israel Katz, have echoed Netanyahu's stance that Israeli troops will not move before Hamas disarms, with Netanyahu facing an election in October where he relies on right-wing support apprehensive about peace with Hamas. ”

They don't like us speculating so I won't.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't choose to work in an authoritarian country that blocked normal websites and where even posting on a site mainly aimed at Mums could be perceived to be criminal behaviour. That's me though.

Yeah that was tongue in cheek - maybe I should have done the laughing emoji to signify.

I believe they are not in the UK, just not that they didn't know what the word jihad means. They've managed to find a definition now where they are, couldn't have been that hard.

Why would someone Scottish choose to live in an authoritarian country. I wouldn't in a million years, but each to their own.

The word "jihad" crops up fairly often on this board - the Conflict in the Middle East - and I've never seen Red ask for a definition before. Which has led to the not unreasonable assumption by myself and others that he did know what the word meant before @GentleSheep used it.

Maybe he disagreed with the way it was used and this was a somewhat long winded way of bringing that to light. Or maybe he suddenly felt the need of a dictionary definition, who knows.

That would be doxing, or self doxing in my case.

I have not checked MN rules on it, but speculating on location of posters is against the rules on other forums I have posted on. Unless it is volunteered.

Puts me in mind of this :

Mat 5:33-37 Again, you heard that it was said to the ancients: You will not swear falsely, but you will pay to the LORD your oaths; but I say to you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, because it is the throne of God, nor by the earth, because it is His footstool, nor by Jerusalem, because it is [the] city of [the] great King, nor may you swear by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black; but let your word be, Yes, Yes, No, No, and that which is more than these is of the evil [one]. LSV

I have my Bible software open anyway, because of another thread I am posting on.

Now, in my case my word is my word. I do not lie. I sometimes get facts wrong of course but hey. And I do find I have to state now and then that I can't open things because of my location. Because, in my view, it would be dishonest to "pretend" I have read something.

Also, as these threads are about Iran, that also has restricted internet, pre war. And I thought it would maybe be an interesting insight to see how such systems can limit information.

I do not lie. But if you think I am gonna yell my location, well, that would be a f**king stupid thing to do wouldn't it ? Because where I am, some of what I post might be considered a crime.

Now these Jihadists and Trump's "Art of the deal book". What does that post mean ? What is the implication you are making ?

Not aware that I do BS. Can’t stand it either. You were less on my radar. However, from now on….

I didn't say you do BS. On the contrary I find your posts quite open about your beliefs.

But Alan suggesting he doesn't know what Jihad is? I've read enough of his posts and interests to know for sure that he'll have opinions on it. Suggesting because he's not able to look up the term from wherever he's posting- so he doesn't know what the term means-is stretching our credulity... quite a bit.

I know you mean me Jade. If you're interested to know, I always report Holocaust Inversion as I cannot abide it. The rest I prefer to leave to stand so everyone can see it. I never report personal attacks or antisemitism apart from HI as I prefer it to be out there.
Also cannot stand BS but I'm sure you feel the same about me.

Glad you were able to figure out how to use the internet to search words up from whichever place you're from... Britannica eh? Jolly good!

I think we all knew what Gentle meant.

To be fair my comment was rather tongue-in-cheek!

I was just basically accused of being a liar, by a couple of posters.

No! The other posters.

I didn't. And I don't.

What does gentle mean ?

Sometimes I do need things explained to me like I was a 6 year old. After all, you have seen, according to you,, that I have been able to figure out how the internet works. That is suggestive that I have "just figured it out".

And Brittanica ? Yeah. I have a beer in the evening with the internet censors after they come off work, and they explain it all to me. What words they pick, what phrases etc.

Let me really really wrack my brains here, and try to figure out why some countries, for whatever reason, might block the word "jihad" from the web.

RedTagAlan · 05/08/2026 10:10

dairydebris · 05/08/2026 09:31

With your many long, well informed posts and clear interest in religious extremism Alan, you expect us to believe you have no working definition of Jihad?
🙄

Have a look my screengrab below. . If I search for jihad definition on its own I just get rubbish. Put jihad like this - and get attached.

You gotta fiddle things. Try different terms etc. Eventually you might get there. It seems to depend on how the censors phrase it.

It can take a while and a fair bit of effort. Some thing .... forget it.

Hamas to disarm.....

The word is pretty much blocked on my internet. Ahh wait. I fiddled a bit with how it is searched.

"jihad, in Islam, a meritorious struggle or effort. The exact meaning of the term jihād depends on context; it has often been erroneously translated in the West as “holy war.” Jihad, particularly in the religious and ethical realm, primarily refers to the human struggle to promote what is right and to prevent what is wrong."

So I was wrong. A meritorious struggle. Not a holy war.

To help out Alan, in Arabic, the word means "effort" or "struggle".

According to the BBC, Jihadists share the basic aims of advancing Islam and countering danger to it, but their priorities can vary:

Changing the social and political organisation of the state.

Establishing sovereignty on a territory perceived as occupied or dominated by non-Muslims.

Defending the umma from external - non-Muslim - threats.

Correcting other Muslims' moral behaviour.

Intimidating and marginalising other Muslim sects.

And is it Jihadists who are making the deal on the Iranian side ?

I mean it technically maybe is given that Iran is an Islamic theocracy. So any war against them will technically be a "holy war".

But you need help me a bit here, and paste what the definition of Jihad is. The word is totally blocked for me.
