Conflict in the Middle East

reported execution of an Iranian teenager for merely sheltering protesters

I saw this posted on social media. Doesn't seem to be much focus on individuals like him, brave enough to raise his voice, executed for sheltering others. 😥

🚨TRAGIC: While the world focuses on other conflicts, the Islamic Republic of Iran executed a 19-year-old boy today.

His name is Erfan Esfandiari. He was his parents’ only child.

He did not kill anyone. He did not carry a weapon. His only “crime,” according to the regime, was opening his door to shelter protesters fleeing from security forces.

Erfan was one of 12 young men charged in the Alikhani Square case in Isfahan after being arrested during the January 2026 uprising. Yesterday, all 12 were moved to quarantine. Today, the regime hanged him.

This is a government so afraid of a generation that refuses to stay silent that it executes teenagers for showing basic compassion.

Say his name. The regime is trying to erase him. His grieving parents are left with nothing — not even the freedom to mourn openly.

Because they want a different, freer life for their country and themselves and their children. Some people are that brave, always have been.

Or perhaps you think the French Resistance would have done better to collaborate?

expression is my weakness, but if they know the risks of protesting then why with all due respect protest if it gets you killed ?

They are brave and want change. They don't want to meekly do what they are told. You are incredibly lucky to live in a free speech society so your bullshit is allowed. Lucky you. Not so lucky them.

and how helpful is democracy when every issue is slowed down because everyone wants to debate every single thing the country does ?

You are far from clear, but do you actually have any idea how difficult it is for the (many, many) people who oppose the regime to leave Iran?

You have some very odd views, poorly expressed too.

If no one ever questioned the church or whoever is in authority nothing would ever change. If Galileo had kept his mouth shut then where would we be today? Although his fate was a lot less barbaric that the victims of the Iranian regime.

But it's pointless arguing with someone who defends authoritarianism so fuck this I'm out. Enjoy posting BS from your comfortable home where you have ability to speak freely without being publicly hanged.

its true, in the middle ages, you don't start questioning the church just because you disagree with their views remember Galileo and his star system anyone ? people seem to forget Christianity was just as bad with its rules on others as some of the nations are today

That's disgusting. You think they should just accept that they live under an authoritarian regime?

Do you question every single process around the world like this?

And even if there is some vague third party encouraging them, so what? That doesn't make their cause any more just.

part of intelligence analysis is picking apart the motives of any event

Do you usually just go off and ask AI for an answer?

then ill give you wikipedia answers instead or textbooks take your pick ?

MrsOctaviaCharlotteSmythe · 08/08/2026 18:07

history shows they may not be legit protests for themselves

They can be legitimate in that many people in Iran support the aims of the protests and there has also been foreign interference.

Perhaps the poster thinks everyone should do what supreme leader says or be executed. Definitely an empathy block. Fortunately, some people do care in organisations that attempt to raise concerns on the world stage.

MrsOctaviaCharlotteSmythe · 08/08/2026 18:15

now thats where you get the oxford university style word play where different words can be analysed to mean different things

Yes the supreme leader has the say on everything. See any problems there for people living there.

It doesn't, it only reflects on you as an empathetic person or not.

you asked ;

In an Islamic theocratic-republican system like Iran's, "legit" (mashru‘iyyat) means authority derived primarily from divine law (Sharia) as interpreted and safeguarded by the Supreme Leader under the doctrine of velayat-e faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist), rather than from popular sovereignty alone.

Define 'legit' in an Islamic theocratic-republican system of government. Backed by the Supreme leader perhaps 🤔
