Terrorist incident in London

I really can relate to this!
Firstly a big Thank you to everyone who has posted good wishes and solidarity with us, the Jewish people in the UK
Im in S Wales and this struck really home to me. I was sending texts to my Jewish friends and they were sending to me. Two of my friends who live not far from me were actually in London intending to go to Golders Green when they heard the news and diverted. Already they don't wear kippah now in public and cover their Star of David necklace.
The truth is for years now, Jews have set their own private security patrols around synagogues, Jewish schools and Jewish neighbourhoods. I attended a Seder at the aforementioned friends house and they had informed the police who were making Extra patrols. This was in their own house!
I honestly don't know what can be done at government level to get on top of this but I feel there's a lot of, oh we must protect our Jews but s @it keeps coming.
I guess I just feel very sad that the world has learned nothing after the horrors of WW2 And the pogroms of history.

Nottingham. Southport. Now Golders Green. People with mental health problems as severe as this should be locked away, not freely roaming our communities. Bring back secure units and round a ton of these folks into them. They can't be cured, but should be cared for.

Yesterday's attacker is a dirty anti Semite and should never see daylight again.

Even just now on the BBC on a detailed report about the attacks, they still couldn’t help themselves - “British Jews feel they are under repeated attack” (my italics) - why did they not just say they are under repeated attack?

And then after description of the events, and personal testimony by a witness to one of the attacks, it was “What to do to make British Jews feel safe?”

This matters because politicians like Zack Polanski have already described it as “perceived” risk, rather than a real threat.

And the fact that this comes after many other antisemitic incidents is just a coincidence I'm sure.

Let’s be honest, if 2 members of a different community had been murdered in the streets this thread would be 20 pages long by now condemning the murderers and calling them all the names under the sun.

I agree and think Keir Starmer does on a personal level as he seems decent on a personal level and his wife is Jewish.

But the rise in antisemitism hasn't been a big enough political issue until recently, hope the tide is turning now.

I think they probably do at a personal level- isn’t Kier Starmer’s wife Jewish? The problem is even that gets held against them as they get accused of not holding Israel to account.

That's an interesting idea and made me think for a moment ... would I wear a Star of David as a sign of solidarity (even though I'm not Jewish) but no, I wouldn't.

Not because I don't support the Jewish community in the UK wholeheartedly. But because I would be afraid to, and that's how bad this antisemitism in society has become.

The government don’t care at all about the Jewish community, not enough votes in it for them, plus it’s not the trendy, virtue signalling ‘side’ to be on.

This attack is just awful. My heart goes out to the Jewish community who should be able to go about their lives without fear of being attacked because they are openly Jewish. I am disgusted by the lack of support they receive from the Government and all political parties who should be doing a lot more to stamp out antisemitism and vocal of their support of the Jewish communities. As a country we should be outraged this is happening.

@Livingonbananabread I was thinking the same. I wear a cross, so I was thinking of combining them. I hear what you say about Zionism, it's been allowed to be a word on a par with racism and apartheid. (I've seen both those banners).

It makes me actually want to wear a Star of David as a show of solidarity, though that would be a bit odd as a practising Christian. So appalled by the relentless level of violence and abuse faced by the Jewish community, and the normalisation among people horrified by all other forms of racism of antisemitic language. Or the extent to which ‘Zionist’ has become a dirty word, and if you pick people up on why they think it’s so abhorrent to believe Israel has a right to exist they look at you as if you’ve got two heads.

Oh, I remember going along to my university J Soc for a Friday Night Meal, a lot of us got invited by people in our Halls or on our course. It was lovely! Completely relaxed atmosphere

Neither would I and that's a big shift from when I was at uni in the 80's and we were all about equality regardless of race/religion/ethnicity etc.

Totally, and I am shocked, but sadly not surprised. I wouldn't care to be a Jewish University student nowadays, if driving past my local university is anything to go by.

That's the sort of thing I mean. People in the UK being afraid to be openly Jewish. It's disgusting and against British values.

Oh it's awful. School children and university students scared to wear their jewellery with a Star of David on? Not taking time off for Holy Days? Too scared to go to their place of worship?
What have we come to?

It makes me angry too especially when I've read Mumsnetters saying their children are afraid to be openly Jewish in schools, or they are advising their children not to be open about it, for their own safety.
