Iran’s embassy in Britain urges expats to become ‘martyrs’

Tehran’s embassy in London is recruiting Iranian expats in the UK to “sacrifice their lives for the homeland” in the Middle East.

Diplomats at the consulate urged “all brave and noble children of Iran” residing in Britain to sign up to the war effort programme “for the people’s defence of the land”.

On its official Telegram channel, the embassy said: “Let us all willingly give our lives. It is better than giving the country to the enemy.”

Officials called on “proud Iranian compatriots residing in Britain” to register for its “Jan Fada” – “sacrificing life” – programme. The post has sparked concerns over British national security.

There have been a number of foiled terror attacks from Iran. Not surprising with its proxies causing mayhem in many countries in the middle east....Hamas, The Houthis, Hezbollah...

Iran turns to citizenship and assets as tools of pressure beyond its borders

The Islamic Republic is escalating its campaign against the diaspora, moving beyond domestic seizures to explore the confiscation of assets held by Iranians in foreign countries and possible revocation of their citizenship.

In addition to financial threats, some officials are calling for the removal of the most basic legal tie between the state and the diaspora: Iranian citizenship.

Hassanali Akhlaghi Amiri, a member of parliament from Mashhad, said earlier this month that cooperation with "hostile countries" should lead to the revocation of a person's national identity.

"The punishment for cooperating with hostile countries against national security and interests begins with the confiscation of property and may even include the revocation of citizenship," Akhlaghi Amiri said.

Might just be me but I can't see this campaign being successful.

I thought lots of the Iranian expats in the UK moved to get away from the IRGC, so can't see them sacrificing their lives for them.

Could it be a veiled threat? Expat Iranians are already being targeted. An Iranian colleague has told me that the property of Iranians who have left Iran is being confiscated, and that they will not be allowed to inherit from their relatives who have remained in Iran. There have been rumours that expats will be stripped of their Iranian citizenship.

Britain said on Tuesday the Iranian ambassador to London had been summoned over what the government described as the Iranian embassy's "unacceptable and inflammatory" comments on social media.

Britain's minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, made clear that the embassy "must cease any form of communications that could be interpreted as encouraging violence in the UK or internationally", the Foreign Office said in a statement.

I thought lots of the Iranian expats in the UK moved to get away from the IRGC, so can't see them sacrificing their lives for them.
