Are people still rejoicing about Iran?

When Israel and the US took out Khamenei there was a thread on how great it was. Some of us expressed that it may not end well, given how forced regime change went previously in many countries. We were told to stop "leftsplaining" to Iranians. How do those people think it's going so far?

Many countries have raised against oppressing regimes before, through civil wars.

But, tge actual matter, changing the iranian way of government is not a priority in this war. For Trump and Netanyahu.

To me, this is the definition of crazy. But that is how they are playing it......

The Iranian people haven’t and can’t. I’m not sure where you’re thinking in particular but just saying others have done it doesn’t actually help them.

There’s no way the people can do this from within alone. They haven’t for decades.

The reason being the brutal oppression when they try. If anyone on here is arguing for the IRGC to go then the people will need help.

My take on this, from day 1, is that Iran change of government can only happen from within, indeed.

But Eastern Standard was telling me something about me looking away at the suffering of Iranians, further upthread. And I was making the point that is those acting on this war who are, in the real world.
Talks on allowing ships through the strait of Hormuz or peace talks and negotiations do not equal ignoring the suffering caused. It equals doing your best to avoid further and present suffering, deaths and destruction.

If there were anyone ready to take the government if Iran, then there would be a point, but it does not look like so.

Did anyone ever really believe the war was about making life better for Iranian civilians? Well if they did then that was pretty naive.

I think it's pretty clear it never was. It's the helping "Iranian women" posts I find incredulous when Israel and the US were the only two countries to vote against a UN resolution on the Taliban denying women and girls their human rights. Bit hypocritical.

Not me, not. I had a bit of hope at some point at the very beginning. But it looked messy, unplanned and rushed... and it still looks exactly the same.
Bar for many further lives lost. And what for? The military targets have been hit.... but we still have the same ideology and hatred issue, only that it could be even worst.

How can it be better with the IRGC in place?

So, making life better for Iranians is not in the list, as only a fully successful regime change will sort the issues they faced on their daily basis.

No you are correct that making life better for Iranians is not on the list apart from

the part that says Administration officials—notably President Trump in his initial remarks regarding the war—have hinted that regime change is also among their goals, but have consistently excluded this message in recent days.

The thing is - the US or Israel cannot bring about regime change, they have stressed many times that it has to come from within Iran. They are in the process of weakening the Iranian regime and that is all they can realistically do regarding helping Iranians to overthrow them.

Nope. I am on those threads too.
Does anyone know which are Trump objectives? Like crystal clear?
I think not.
But, well, it is to Trump who you have to query.
I, personally, do not think he has a clue or cares about any of it enough to make a plan.

I expect you have been on other threads where the US main objectives have been listed but I will repeat them here, from the Washington Institute:

One week into the war with Iran, the United States seems to have settled on four primary objectives: (1) destroying Iran’s navy; (2) destroying Iran’s missile capabilities; (3) preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons; and (4) preventing Iran from supporting proxy groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or the Houthis in Yemen. Administration officials—notably President Trump in his initial remarks regarding the war—have hinted that regime change is also among their goals, but have consistently excluded this message in recent days.

I can’t keep up with what threads people are on I just know I don’t recognise what the pp was claiming for posts. It’s enough to just respond to actual posts not general stuff.

If you read it, you shall see that I did not assign the statement to anyone. But it is around mumsnet and the press and the world. Because the actors of this cannot make their minds up. We still do not know what the objectives are.

You literally said that you had "spotted" @EasternStandard on threads where posters were saying that regime change was not one of the objectives. So, is it or is it not?

So you very much did seem to be holding them responsible for holding that opinion even to the extent of expecting them to answer questions on it.

Anyway Trump is now ' taking 'Cuba. No doubt they too have a nuclear bomb or women needing to be saved or a population needing to be rescued by bombing them.

Did I miss that Iran has transmutated into a democracy with full on rights for everyone? Because I have not seen a single word about that. And actually I have spotted you @EasternStandard on threads where posters were saying that regime change was not one of the objectives. So, is it or is it not? Which one is Trump's latest take on it? Once all that is crystal clear, then we can assess if any of this is actually helping the Iranian people. For me, at present, it has done nothing of good and a lot of further deads and destruction.

The point being made on some threads (not by @EasternStandard as far as I'm aware) is that regime change was not the primary objective.

Also that regime change needs to happen from within, although weakening the regime could help that become more possible.

MushMonster · 17/03/2026 19:07

What would you do? Is Trump doing this about regime change or not? What you want it to be does not matter. It is Trump with his army resources, and Netanyahu, who decide what is happening.

I think you might need to go back to
that thread spotting @MushMonsterbecause you haven’t got my views correct there.

What would you do about Iran developing weapons and brutalising the people?

Just reading now about US counter-terrorism chief resignation.
This not adding anything in Trump's favour and taking us back to Rubio's statements.
US really looks like they do not know why they went to war, what the objective is and Trump just thinks we are here to serve him with bases, ship, mine finding equipment and soldiers he will not have to take home in a box.
All this death and destruction for some men's ego? Because it looks like it!

Do you and pp take into account the ego of men brutalising citizens in Iran?

Really looking away doesn’t help those blinded, killed or acid in faces.

It’s always about greedy power hungry men with massive egos! Netanyahu and Trump started this war because they both see something in it for themselves.
