Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

I thought Starmer was being too wishy washy until Sunday.

What he decided to do then though - allow the US to use our air bases for agreed defensive purposes - personally, I think that's about right.

We're being helpful to the US/Israel campaign and to our allies but without being on the attack ourselves.

Watching with interest to see how it unfolds but right now, I'm satisfied with the UK position.

Well as a British citizen, I am glad we haven't just jumped in and started dropping bombs just because America has told us to. Have we not learnt any lessons from previous wars in the Middle East?

I am glad too, I haven’t forgotten the Iraq war and Libya debacles.

Totally disagree. I think the UK should align with the Spanish, who have unequivocally told Trump to fuck off.

Starmer is right and I support him. This isn’t our war.

Britishgaslighters · 02/03/2026 18:18

Actually for once I think Starmer is right. Getting dragged into a war is the last thing we need.

Nobody wants a repeat of the Iraq war, he’s right to wait & see. America didn’t join us in ww2 until Pearl Habour… remember that.
My dad served in the Iraq war and I can tell you now most if not all service men & women are still very angry about it.

Absolutely agree.
