Seven countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt say they will join US president Donald Trump's Board of Peace, according to a joint statement.

They will join Israel, which also publicly confirmed its participation earlier on Wednesday.

The group of Muslim-majority countries named in the statement are Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan and Qatar.

Carney's invitation was withdrawn after he said something that might be interpreted as critical of Trump.

"The International Board of Peace" meaning a bunch of people selected and approved by Trump, dismissed by Trump at whim, and overruled by Trump at whim.

The UN Security Council backed its creation didn’t it?

Just at a quick glance
The United Nations Security Council adopted United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 on 17 November 2025 welcoming the establishment of the Board of Peace

Even if it does sideline the UN in any way I doubt it was the intention of that ratification. What actually happens in terms of one doing more than the other I’m not sure.

They did back its creation but I believe the argument is that the Board of Peace as it now appears bears little resemblance to what they thought they were backing. More international in flavour and less Gaza focused.

The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) is the name of the committee set up to manage day-to-day operations of the civil service and administration in the Gaza Strip. It consists of a 15-person committee of politically independent Palestinian technocrats that is supervised by the international Board of Peace.

The UN’s top humanitarian official Tom Fletcher, told CNN that Trump’s Board of Peace will not replace his organization.

With his track record of getting things wrong that makes it more likely the UN will end up getting replaced, in my opinion.

This just looks like an attempt to replace the UN.

The document setting up the Board apparently makes no mention of Gaza.
“The text says the board would be "an international organisation that seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict".”

You are mistaken in thinking that people love genocide.

Apart from the perpetrators, of course.

mids2019 · 23/01/2026 07:21

I think there is a mind set amongst the pro pals that turnaround rather not have Gaza rebuilt as it undermines the 'cause'. There is a need for perpetual vicrimhood to galvanize the baying mobs that walk through London regularly. Rebuilding Gaza with an international coalition doesn't for in with the beloved genocide narrative does it?

BBC:

Speaking at Davos, Israeli President Isaac Herzog praised the "efforts of President Trump and his leadership". But he warned: "The real test has to be Hamas leaving Gaza".

President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA), which governs in parts of the occupied West Bank, called for the full implementation of the peace plan, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and a central role for the PA in administering Gaza.

The head of the NCAG, Ali Shaath, meanwhile announced that the Rafah border crossing with Egypt would open next week in both directions. It has been mostly closed since May 2024, when the Palestinian side was seized by Israeli forces.
"Opening Rafah signals that Gaza is no longer closed to the future and to the war," he said.

The war was triggered by the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

Israel responded to the attack by launching a military campaign in Gaza, during which more than 71,560 people have been killed, according to the territory's health ministry.

Details of the plan posted across multiple media sites including the Jerusalem Post:

Jared Kushner unveils $25 billion plan to transform Gaza into economic hub by 2035

US special envoy Jared Kushner presented a detailed blueprint for the reconstruction and economic transformation of the Gaza Strip in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday. The multiphase master plan is intended to turn the enclave into a regional economic hub by 2035.

The proposal was introduced during the signing of US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace charter.

The initiative sets ambitious targets for the next decade. It aims to raise Gaza’s GDP to more than $10 billion and increase average annual household income to over $13,000.

The plan is structured around a six-phase development timeline that begins in the south and advances northward.

Phase 1 focuses on Rafah and Khan Yunis. Phase 2 involves expanding Khan Yunis. Phase 3 targets development in the central refugee camps. Phase 4 centers on the reconstruction of Gaza City.

A major section of the coastline has been designated for coastal tourism, with plans to construct 180 mixed-use towers.

The interior of the Gaza Strip is zoned for residential neighborhoods and industrial zones covering more than 25 square kilometers. They are intended to accommodate data centers and advanced manufacturing facilities.

The infrastructure proposal includes a new port and airport, a trilateral crossing at Rafah, a freight rail line with a logistics corridor, and a network of ring and main roads to connect Gaza’s urban centers.

The Board of Peace estimates that more than $25b. will be needed to develop modern utilities and public services.

To support the new economy, $1.5b. has been allocated for vocational training and retraining programs.

The goal is to create more than 500,000 new jobs in the construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and digital sectors.

An additional $3b. investment fund is designated for commercial zones, business districts, and microgrants intended to stimulate local entrepreneurship.

And…? Any ol’group of thugs with money will do? They’re not going to rebuild it for the Palestinian people.

Edited

Do all these countries fall into the category of “any group of thugs”?

I don’t think so. Though I think it has been obvious for a long time that no one is going to provide the billions of dollars needed to rebuild Gaza apart from for a profit.

I’m just being pragmatic by the way, not suggesting that war should be something to make profit on. My personal view is that those that start a war should primarily pay for the war along with the support of their allies & funders. Others will say Israel should pay most of it. Whichever way you view “blame”, in reality Gaza needs outside investors. Though I agree it feels unsavoury for other countries/individuals to be profiting from this war in Gaza.

The thing is that the Palestinians need their homes, hospitals, schools, universities, cemeteries, sewage works, water supplies and roads rebuilding.

It’s probably go to do with their current spat with UAE over Yemen and the fact that their domestic economic affairs will probably take a turn for the worse as their whole vision 2030 is stuttering a bit. An effort to distract their population? Saudi influencers are spending a lot of time attacking Israel and the UAE atm, it seemingly came out of the blue. It is very unusual this level of overt animosity between gulf countries.

Tbh it’s not entirely clear wtf is going on, it’s a massive u-turn on the abraham accords. Basically thown their lot in with Turkey and Qatar which is interesting given they led the blockade against Qatar a few years ago. Need to do some reading around this but I think they really do not like how influential the UAE has become. But definitely Saudi may not domestically go for wahabism coming back to Saudi but abroad they are going to no doubt be encouraging the worst of the worst.

Saudi of 2 years ago I would have been happy to see on the board. I don’t have to like the countries involved but they should be stable, not supporting terrorism anywhere, able to help Palestinians build stable institutions with transparent financial controls to avoid money being pocketed by Hamas and other general corruption. Without this Palestinians lives will not improve. I hope that the Emirates, Indonesia and Jordan can provide a balance and push for something that will work in civilian interests.

Interesting and very worrying. I'm not sure how much better the UAE is (eg. Funding the RSF in the Sudan war and still domestically very repressive) but they do seem to be at least cracking down on fundamentalist groups.

The Coalition of the Billionaires. This is nothing more than a circle jerk of corrupt oligarchs trying to get us drunk on their Kool-Aid. You'd have to count your fingers after shaking hands with any one of them.
I wonder if they'll all fly into the Gaza Riviera on Trump's Qatari jet.
And this Board of Monopoly Pieces ("This is about real estate," said Jared Kushner, more than once) is backed by such upstanding, not-at-all corrupt countries like Albania and Armenia... yay.
Pull the other one. It's got bells on.

I don't see any point in this board other than personal enrichment of Trump at 1 billion dollars a piece membership fees payable to him. According to the board charter, all members have a vote, but that can be vetoed by Trump as the chairperson.

It's a one-man, one-vote arrangement.

Trump is the one man, and has the one vote.

Don Trumpleone.

Saudi I agree but otoh how does that fit with Abdullah's Vision 2030? I thought he was finally cracking down on Wahhabism to avoid upsetting the West?

Who pays do you know? Taxpayers perhaps but is that the same for Blair?

As for other countries better it’s a mix as you say.

It's only the countries that wish to become permanent members of the Board of Peace that must pay the billion dollars into a fund controlled by Donald Trump, others will serve a 3-year term. Who actually pays I have no idea.

This shows that there is a true international interest in establishing peace in the middle East including the disarming of Hamas and I hope this applies more pressure for them to do so. We have Israel, Egypt and Saudii on the same board so that is some diplomacy to get this thing together. It was also apparent the region needed a break from the UN and it a obvious historical bias in this conflict.

Left wingers have gone apoplectic about this board yet it seems to be gaining traction slowly. You never know they might be responsible for the restoration of health care in Gaza but I am sure there will be those that will somehow use mental gymnastics to argue this is still part of the 'genocide'. 🙄

I agree the UN has been tarnished over it's obvious historical & current bias in this conflict.

It needed reforming but arguably it is being replaced instead, time will tell.

According to Wikipedia, the countries who have joined so far are:
United States (chair), Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Uzbekistan & Vietnam.

Many other states and organisations have been invited and are considering their response including the Vatican city.

The only states to have declined so far are Sweden, Norway, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia.

On 20 January 2026 Trump referenced the "Board of Peace" and said "the United Nations never helped me" as a reason for its existence, claiming his board "might" replace the UN.

The Guardian called it "a Trump-dominated pay-to-play club: a global version of his Mar-a-Lago court aimed at supplanting the UN itself," arguing that the body ultimately outlined bore little resemblance to what the United Nations Security Council believed it was endorsing. According to the newspaper, a charter circulated to national capitals two months after the resolution's adoption made no reference to Gaza, instead presenting the Board of Peace as a permanent global institution.

The only purpose of this "Board of Peace" is strictly a grift, nothing ever determined where this $1 billion membership fee goes to, and he's trying to get Trumpland into the UAE area. Why he also is selling arms to them, after years and years of an embargo on refusing this. Why he also refused to believe thy had any part in the death and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi, The grift goes on. BTW, Trump’s Staggering $1.4B Payday Since Returning to Office Exposed is a tell tale sign of why he's working his second term much more greedily than the first one.
