Seven countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt say they will join US president Donald Trump's Board of Peace, according to a joint statement.

They will join Israel, which also publicly confirmed its participation earlier on Wednesday.

The group of Muslim-majority countries named in the statement are Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan and Qatar.

The pro pal marches may die down but how do we deal with the legacy of anti semitsm that resulted? I just think a lot of the predominantly Muslim support for the Palestinains will turn from marches into a continued hatred for all things Jewsih. This is a longer lasting problem in the UK I suspect.

I would probably count as pro-Pal but I can’t understand why you would think that those who support a peaceful and safe life for Gazans in Gaza would be upset about reconstruction of Gaza for them?

Do you have evidence for this?

If people are quieter it is probably because they are relieved there is some sort of ceasefire in place and plans being made for reconstruction. This slightly refutes the idea the marching was all down to antisemitism surely but due to concerns a genocide was taking place?

I can see that Israel is moving the yellow boundary into Gaza and have had to have the Rafah opening imposed on them. Plus, they plan to restrict entry back into Gaza.

Also see Smotrich predictably not to pleased with the Gaza plan.

Great post

I'd like to see the Palestinian people have an outside body to report to. The UK and other nations spent tens of millions to build hospitals schools. A friend was part of the UK team who allocated that money. Imagine if the people could whistle blow and report a team of dodgy guys are building tunnels under our hospital, school to burrow into and launch missiles from, please can you stop them.

I expect people were probably scared given Abbas was covertly abetting Hamas before they essentially took over. If there is protection for those in Gaza then people would be able to meaningfully resist attempt at incursion by Hamas

I object to Israel's racist genocide.

I am under no obligation to follow the path you have constructed for yourself.

Of course you are no obligation to do anything, I was just trying to understand your mindset. Speaking as someone who has criticised both sides across many threads because they have both done things I consider wrong on occasion. More Hamas than Israel in my opinion, but still.

If you don’t want to criticise Hamas genocidal intent that’s up to you of course.

Unlike Netanyahu and the State of Israel I have never been a supporter of Hamas.

If you want to speak out against racist genocide then why do you ignore Hamas?

And if they sign up as permanent members it only costs them $1 billion

For each person, or per country?

and who gets the $1bn??

I suppose pro pal people are going to have to think long and hard about how they continue to protest. Do we have slogans complaining about the board of peace? Complaints that there rent enough billions to be given to the Gazan people for reconstruction (money so many impoverished countries would sorely wish for)?

As I said earlier the reasons for people turning up on the streets now will be to support the hard Hamas agenda of removal of the Israeli state with a sub text of continuing armed struggle (terrorism to most people) against Israelis.

I think there is a mind set amongst the pro pals that turnaround rather not have Gaza rebuilt as it undermines the 'cause'. There is a need for perpetual vicrimhood to galvanize the baying mobs that walk through London regularly. Rebuilding Gaza with an international coalition doesn't for in with the beloved genocide narrative does it?

This.

Can we play a game of spot the country without a civil war or democracy?

"Propal marches "

An interesting way to describe opposition to racist genocide committed by Israel.

It’s just an abbreviation for what are objectively pro Palestinian marches 🤷🏼‍♀️

You know a lot of people see the war in Gaza as having 2 sides to it? Not just one side - Israel- but also the side that is Hamas. Do you believe Hamas to be entirely innocent? Or maybe they carry no responsibility because they are child like in your mind - who knows. It’s a strange facet of this war that so many people seem to leave Hamas out of the equation & forget what triggered this war.

As a reminder, Israel was the side attacked on 7/10/2023. Men, women & children were murdered, their crime was being Jewish. The intentions of Hamas are racist & genocidal. They want to destroy all Jews. So yes, those on pro Palestinian marches protesting in good faith should want to separate themselves from antisemitism & inflammatory slogans as @mids2019 says.

I'd be more than happy if we had less pro pal marches and a general election in antisemitism and inflammatory slogans. If a potential rebuild of Gaza can go towards those aims fair enough. It'll puss people off though if and when the reconstruction begins with international billions there are still calls to globalise the intafada.

The concern I have is how the plans will benefit ordinary Palestinians living in Gaza and the time scales.

The United Nations Office for Project Services says Gaza has more than 60 million tons of rubble, enough to fill nearly 3,000 container ships. That will take over seven years to clear, they say, and then additional time will be needed for de-mining. From the Times of Israel.

It would be good to have clarity on the plan ahead and confirmation that Palestinians will be allowed back to live in Gaza if they have to leave for reconstruction.

Hamas need to disarm immediately too.

More worryingly, Trump will continue to be the tyrant in charge, regardless or whether he is President or not.

In a couple of years, if still alive, he will just be a retired billionaire and disgraced ex-politician.

His replacement will not be in thrall to him.

"The International Board of Peace" meaning a bunch of people selected and approved by Trump, dismissed by Trump at whim, and overruled by Trump at whim.

I don't think they can be dismissed by Trump at whim if they have paid the billion dollars to be life members?

But basically agree that it's The Trump Show.

I don't see any point in this board other than personal enrichment of Trump at 1 billion dollars a piece membership fees payable to him. According to the board charter, all members have a vote, but that can be vetoed by Trump as the chairperson.

I think this is key. A paid for board is just ridiculous add in with the rest of Trump’s antics. Lets not even talk about Netanyahu on the board.
