To be delighted by reports the pro Palestinian activists / prisoners have ended their hunger strikes

Whatever your views are politically I believe this is good.

I appreciate many support their cause but really what effect would young people starving themselves in the UK have on the Israeli government, Hamas or the end to suffering in Gaza?

Granting their demands would not have affected the Israeli government or Gaza.

It is quite chilling really that a hunger strike to demand you are granted bail as is your right as you don’t meet the criteria for bail denial, that arms shipments stop in accordance with UN direction and that the unreasonable and politically engineered delay to your trial beyond the 180day limit be brought to an end was completely ignored by our government.

These are political prisoners. This kind of detention without trial is what countries like Iran and China do. It’s an erosion of our civil rights.

Yes, I am glad they are ending their strikes because their deaths would be truly tragic. But I would not be so flippant about “martyrs for the cause” when the cause are their demands and those were 100% reasonable requests that English law and international law on our civil rights and on arms sales be followed.

I’ve read all their demands on the Government and much from their supporters and talked to many who support them.

I may not agree with a great deal they say but ending their hunger strike is a good thing. Those baying them on to become martyrs for a cause are disgusting.

I am pleased they will not further risk their health.
