Conflict in the Middle East

When will it be time for the BBC news to take down the 'war on gaza' tab?

The peace fire seems on the whole to be holding and therefore there is limited news from this region so why don't the BBC pull any articles on the middle east into the main site of at least into a middle East section?

There are many conflicts around the world that (Sudan, Somalia etc) that deserve attention yet still the BBC have a whole section up for war ended by a ceasefire? It has been shown there was bias within the BBC which is currently suffering a lot of aspirational damage so surely it could help itself by having equal coverage of conflicts around the world apart from focussing one that involves Israelis and Jews? Anti semitism has been well documented in this country and I think one way to reduce e it is to look at areas where there is an over focus on one particular conflict showing an anti Israel agenda.

The Guardian have stopped their exclusive sub heading so why can't the BBC follow?

Just because the "Hamas health ministry" don't distinguish between combatants and civilians, I think it's important that the rest of us do make the distinction.

Yes - the IDF still should have arrested the terrorists seeing as they had their hands up.

But also, no one's crying over 2 dead terrorists.

And so be it.

Only the IDF have said they were terrorists. We don’t know if they were or weren’t. However, from sky news:

Between 2018 and 2022, the last years for which data are available, there were 219 court cases launched into allegations of Palestinians being killed, illegally, by Israeli soldiers on the West Bank.
Of these, 112 were deemed to be unworthy of investigation. Of the remaining 107, it was decided that 106 did not merit an indictment.
In the single case where a soldier was indicted, he was convicted of killing a Palestinian after opening fire at the scene of a traffic accident. His punishment was three months of community service.

Doesn’t look likely that there will be any reprisals. What a suprise.

Not only the IDF saying they were terrorists.

The deceased, identified by Palestinian media as 26-year-old Mahmoud Qassem Abdallah and 37-year-old Youssef Asasa, were wanted by Israel on suspicion of involvement in bombing and shooting attacks against troops. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group confirmed Friday that the two were members of its military wing.

Do you think Gaza is the only place in the world where there is suffering?

What kind of argument is that? It’s almost as if you want us to look away from the death and destruction.

Do you think that now there is a fragile peace, the Gazans are now living it up? The rubble has been magically cleared, children’s limbs magically restored, the economy is booming?

Now is the most important time to look at Gaza because what happens now determines the future and the likelihood of this happening again.

No point disabling Hamas now if another extreme group pops up again in 20 years which will most certainly happen if the Palestinians are subject to the same conditions that they have been over the last decades.

The international community needs to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Like I said, now is the most important time to focus on Gaza.

Stripes56 · 29/11/2025 09:45

@SharonEllis
Of course there are awful things happening in other regions of the world, and people can readily search for those. They are not hidden. The BBC has a world page that’s easily found.

Again, news organisations are likely responding to the interest of their users. Why do some people want to make it more difficult for all those interested in the future of Gaza to get easily accessible updates?

Stripes56 · 29/11/2025 08:44

The tabs for Israel- Gaza war are most likely still there because people do care. I imagine news organisations will be responding to the number clicks and demand for news on the region.

The devastation in the region and its impact on the displaced Gazan population is, in my opinion, under-reported. We are coming up to winter and people are living in makeshift tents. Children are seen playing amongst rubble. We need to keep this in the news and we need reporters to be allowed in.

There is so much work to be done - and this is an ongoing consequence of the war. It needs to be reported on and it makes sense to collate news under one section.

What do you keep calling it a ‘peace fire’??!

Faux outrage? If someone disagrees with your viewpoint then they must be faking it?

And as for no one caring for those men, I don’t get your argument. You seem to be saying that as no one cares about them, no one should? So what? Perhaps the people who do care about them are dead? I don’t understand your argument at all. Can you elaborate?

No of course I don't. No one is asking me but equally not many people seem very concerned about 2 more terrorists being killed. Apart from a couple of people on MN that seem to have unlimited amounts of faux outrage about anything connected to the IDF or Israel government behaving badly.

Jesus wept. That’s not the point.

You don’t get to decide who should or shouldn’t be protected by international law. Else the world will descend into chaos.

I don't think Hamas are party to the Geneva Convention so it's a bit rich to expect their members to be protected by it, in my opinion.

Morally, the IDF should have captured and imprisoned these 2 terrorists rather than killed them. But in reality it feels like few will even pretend to care about it.

Legally they should have @Twiglets1 not just morally. The idf’s actions are in breach of the Geneva convention,

What troubles me is the lack of knowledge, or frankly interest, about the atrocities in Sudan and the Congo. And Myanmar. And the Uighur. The ongoing suffering of millions of women and children in those places stays largely unreported. I would like the BBC and other news channels to shine more light on those conflicts, not just Gaza.

I find Channel 4 news to be much better in this respect. They regularly do reports on other stuff going on around the world. The BBC is too narrowly focused IMO.

Timeforabitofpeace · 28/11/2025 14:18

Peace fire holding? Nice try.

thingsarelookingupfornigel · 28/11/2025 10:08

They killed women and children. Is that not violence?

SharonEllis · 28/11/2025 10:04

thingsarelookingupfornigel · 28/11/2025 08:06

What do Israel have to do for pro Palestinian organisations to admit there is peace or does the lack of violence not serve their narrative?

Stop killing people? 12 dead in Syria including children.
Doesn’t feel very peaceful to me.

How about telling the whole story? People honestly seem to expect Israel to put up with militant activity on its borders. www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israel-detains-islamic-jemaah-suspects-syria-israeli-military-says-2025-11-28/

thingsarelookingupfornigel · 28/11/2025 08:59

Added to the fact that the IDF bulldozed 100 olive trees yesterday in the West Bank. Why did they do that? Were the trees armed and dangerous?

Wfhftm · 28/11/2025 08:59

When Israel stops killing babies. The ceasefire never held. Israel never stopped.

SameOldHill · 28/11/2025 08:58

It doesn’t matter if they were terrorists or not. It is still illegal to kill unarmed and surrendered soldiers. The Geneva convention has a purpose.

If it were legal to kill such people you could go around killing civilians and saying “oh but they were soldiers!” which is precisely what Israel has been doing.

They think they are above international law. Because they have been allowed to be by the USA. It’s morally unjustifiable.

Forget about any moral discussion here for a second, think about this as strategy, as game theory:

What you are essentially positing is "if someone belongs to the side I oppose, rules - including the rule that surrender renders combatants hors de combat and hence entitled to some protection - should no longer apply."

Following that logic, what is more rational? To surrender, or to try and take out as many of the others as you can and have at least a hypothetical path to your own survival?

Edited

The armed wing of Hamas have stated that Hamas won't surrender, not even the fighters holed up in the Israeli-held Rafah area of Gaza.

I imagine these two were an anomaly. I said in my post that the IDF should have captured & imprisoned them. Nevertheless I doubt there will be many fucks given re 2 more dead terrorists.

They were wanted men - terrorists.

Must surprise you daily that there is so little concern from the international community about the deaths of such individuals at the hands of the IDF, even if they should have captured & imprisoned them.
