Conflict in the Middle East

How will carrying out "powerful strikes " on Gaza help to get the bodies back?

BN has resumed the attack on Gaza, surely finding bodies is easier when you are not being bombed, shelled, shot at and starved.

Do your teenagers understand that actions have consequences? Because mine do. They understand if you do something knowing the consequences, then those consequences are on you. In fact, my 7 year old knows it.

Hamas know Israel is going to react with extreme violence. We all know it. You know it. I know it. Hamas still did it.

And Israel are the ones who chose to kill almost 50 children in 24hrs. You can rabbit on about Hamas all you like but this blood is on Israels hands, just as the blood of those killed on Oct 7 is on Hamas.

We could say that Israel knew that keeping people under occupation would lead to violence does that make Oct 7 Israels fault? Actions have consequences right?

Very true.

When I heard about 7/10 I said OMG.

It was horrible to hear about but I also felt dread about what was going to happen next.

Yes, of course Hamas are my friends 🤡

I believe in free will. Israel had a choice in how to react to a delay in receiving the bodies. They chose to kill children, again. My teenagers could tell you that 'Look what you made me do' does not wash with me. We all make our choices and time and time again as we have seen Israels choice is extreme violence and the mass killing of innocent children.

Who is going to volunteer to keep the peace in Gaza after the scenes of mass execution of so called collaborators?

All Hamas had to do was return ALL the hostages and put down their weapons. Clearly no ceasefire would have held when they had no intention of doing that.

God knows - and that is why it was never going to happen.
And it’s more complicated than that. It’s all very well saying lay down your weapons to Hamas - but you’re not dealing with reasonable people there. Plus you have the added complication of other armed groups in Gaza.
This is why it was so much more complicated to sort out than many people want to believe. Without the support in place at best Gaza with remain a lawless hellhole.

This ceasefire was never going to hold. It was set up to fail from the get go. In order for a ceasefire and eventual peace you need governance and security. There is neither in Gaza. There is no leadership to maintain any form of law and order. Hamas have got to go. Israel have got to stop killing civilians. And there needs to be some form of peace keeper in Gaza. Without it nothing will change.
This peace plan was rushed and lacked sufficient detail and supportive structure to make it work.
But Israel and the IDF cannot be that security force.

There is one other thing I would add. I am not sure that there is political will in Israel for a ceasefire- it’s being upheld by pressure from the US.

Apart from the Israeli government also runs an effective nationstate, takes care of its own with the Iron Dome, doesn't shoot the opposition in the street, has facilitated many flourishing industries, has a decent recird with womens rights, doesn't hide its soldiers and weapons in civilian buildings, has mutually beneficial relationships with its allies, and allows democratic elections to its people.

There are of course many ways we could also criticize the current Israeli administration. Settlers, right-wing nutjobs, corruption ( although bring dealt with by legal system ), discriminatory policies etc. Much like any other government, USA, India, us...

Now you do Hamas. What positives have they bought for Gazans? What have Gazans got to be grateful for their government for? And what criticisms could you make?

And once you've done that, you still come up with Israeli administration as the worst?

Firstly, I know Hamas have no positives, I don’t know where you got the impression that I thought they did?

Israel can have all the positives it likes, it’s brilliant but IMO Israel is just as bad as Hamas, they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Netenyahu is just as evil as Hamas, they both need to be gone, they both have so much hate and they poison everybody they can with it

But you have just deliberately twisted that @Twiglets1!

The post stated Netanyahu’s actions - not Israel’s.

Germany has now been forgiven yes. But that took time.
Hitler himself however has not been. Nor the Nazi party.
So yes in time Israel will be forgiven the actions of today. Netanyahu however may not be so easy forgiven.

This is the statement I responded to:

Yup, lots of they couldn't even wait 2 weeks to resume the killing. Netanyahu's actions have associated those supporting his actions inside and outside of Israel with a barbarity which will not be forgotten nor forgiven for generations.

Doesn't sound like Belle was only criticising Netanyahu or the extremists in his party but rather anyone who supports Israel's actions in this war inside and outside of Israel

German civilians and many commentators during the war could equally be said to have supported Nazi policy but we move on for the sake of progress and our own mental health.

Hamas are cunts, but so is the Israeli government, neither care about civilians dying, they are both as bad as each other.

Hamas are openly terrorist assholes, the Israeli government try to hide that they are - you can roll a turd in glitter, it’s still a turd.

Germany's actions in 2 world wars have largely been forgiven even by those who actively fought them at the time like the UK so I think you're wrong about people not being able to move on after wars end.

Hmm sounds like some kind of projectionist project to demonise Israel to me. Channel 4 known for bias against Israel.

What are your thoughts on the Palestinian cause to annihilate Israel and eradicate the Jews spoken openly about by their leaders, the indoctrination of hate in Palestinian schools, kids terrorist training summer camps and Palestinians on Oct 7th shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ while slaughtering Jews and in celebration of the slaughter?

Do you think Channel 4 might do a documentary on that radicalisation?

The slogan ‘Israel is a cancer’ has spread (excuse the pun) all over SM over the last two years, more so over the last few months. Obviously it started somewhere then became a catchy slogan much like ‘Free Palestine’ I suppose.

It’s the old scapegoating of the Jews for ‘the problems facing the Muslim world’, as if they’d be solved if the cancerous tumour that is Israel was cut out. No, they’d just find someone else to fight without Israel as their common enemy.

The real reason that Israel is seen as a ‘cancer’ in the ME is this:

Today, the Jewish dhimmis, those “children of fear” (or “of death”), are not forgiven for having succeeded in creating a state that ranks among the most developed countries in the world. And one that has held its own against several Arab armies in the course of numerous wars. For the Arab psyche, the State of Israel remains an unforgivable slap in the face, a mystery and a heartbreak. It is also a a humiliating blow to the prevailing sense of stagnation within the Arab world, providing fertile ground for the propagation of the myth of the “Jewish conspiracy.”

Over the past thirty years, this anti-Semitism has become more radical. It has also become more Islamized, inspired by the work of the Egyptian “Muslim Brother” Saïd Qutb, whose essay Our Fight Against the Jews, published in the early 1950s, remains the benchmark of contemporary fundamentalism to this day. For Saïd Qutb, the Jews are guilty of having emancipated themselves from Muslim domination and created a Jewish state in the heart of the Arab-Muslim world. They are responsible for the “modern doctrines of atheistic materialism” (in no particular order, communism, psychoanalysis and sociology) that have led to “the destruction of the family and the collapse of sacred relations in society”. The evil work of “three Jews” – Marx, Freud and Durkheim – illustrates the subversive role of the Jews in “contemporary immorality destined to destroy humanity”.

I found this article about the history of the Jewish ‘dhimmi’ status under Muslim rule very illuminating and also the similarities in the brutality of atrocities carried out in Arab programs against Jews to Oct 7th quite terrifying in how little progress has been made in mentality.

Thank you for explaining. I don't use SM much apart from MN if that even counts as SM. Glad I don't sometimes.

I was shocked by the comment. Interesting to note that back in 2012 the international community condemned President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for making similar comments.

Roll forward to 2025 and it's apparently a common thing to see on SM and is considered an appropriate thing to say on a website aimed at mums!

The answer is that Palestinians are not allowed to live as equals in Israel, only as 2nd class citizens.

If you think Palestinians live harmoniously in Israel then you are clearly out of touch. There's a massive hatred of Arabs/Palestinians withing Israel. It's government policy and widely reported.

The comparisons between the events in Germany then and Israel now are valid.

Just as the same comparison can be made between South African Apartheid and the situation with Gaza being blockaded by Israel.

It's just a form of racial and religious discrimination and hatred. It's nothing new and it's just history repeating itself.

Any state that wants to live by interpreting a religious book as facts is doomed. Because they will always treat non-believers as less than them. To me, this has no place in a civilised society.

So yes, the whole of the middle east is going to be fucked for a long while. All because of ancient pre-science so called holy books written by blokes.

Palestinians are not allowed to live as equals in Israel, only as 2nd class citizens.

Arab citizens of Israel have full legal citizenship and essentially the same civil and political rights as Jewish Israelis. There is structural disadvantage and no doubt discrimination too. But to claim ‘second class citizenship’ akin to South African apartheid or Nazi Germany is absurd hyperbole.

As for ‘out of touch’, remember you are talking about a group you were completely unaware of less than 24 hours ago.

Any state that wants to live by interpreting a religious book as facts is doomed

I’m not a huge fan of theocratic states either. But let’s face a few realities: i) Israel is one of the most secular states in the region, though not as secular as I’d like. Its legal system is inherited from English common law not the Talmud, ii) Israel’s raison d’être is about a homeland for an ethnicity, not a religion. I’m also not a massive fan of that concept, but it’s utterly commonplace as the basis of nation states. Israel is also far more ethnically open than basically all its surrounding states.

So I have some sympathy with your desire for modern, secular, multi-ethnic states with expansive citizenship rights. Which Middle Eastern states do you think do better than Israel on that score? Who has greater citizenship rights: Arab Israelis, or Arabs in [pick any surrounding state]?

Did seem an extreme comment, am surprised MN allows it to stand.

The poster may be taking Iran Leader Ali Khamenei as their inspiration, who said a similar thing back in 2012:

Israel is a “cancerous tumor” and is the biggest problem facing the Muslim world, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Sunday, immediately after the international community condemned President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for making similar comments.

“The great powers have dominated the destiny of the Islamic countries for years and… installed the Zionist cancerous tumour in the heart of the Islamic world,” semi-official Iranian IRNA news agency quoted Khamenei saying in an Eid al-Fitr speech marking the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan.

“Many of the problems facing the Muslim world are due to the existence of the Zionist regime,” he charged.

Khamenei’s comments on Sunday came two days after Ahmadinejad marked al-Quds day on Friday by calling for the elimination of the “insult to all humanity” that is Israel, and said that its very existence is a crime against humanity.

I said it's positive that the ceasefire is starting again today.

Would you rather it wasn't? It's rare to find someone that sees a ceasefire as a negative thing.

An Israeli ceasefire at present still equates to many people being killed. I was pleased when the ceasefire was initially announced earlier in October. The continued bombing of Gaza that does not seem proportionate does not feel positive.

I imagine the families of those killed since the original ceasefire will agree.

Well this is a Jew hater with the balls to show their true feelings at least.

I have seen this slogan ‘Israel is the cancer of the world’ so often on SM and it’s ALWAYS followed by Jewish tropes and blood libels.

Maybe @Cassavaflower can explain exactly how the tiny State of Israel is the cancer of the world and why she thinks Israel should have negotiated for the hostages ‘from the start’ which presumably means she thinks there should have been no response to Oct 7th, instead of Hamas shouldn’t have started a war and taken hostages including a baby and young children in the first place.

Does she think any other country would have not responded to an attack like Oct 7th?

Note Israel are bloodthirsty loons but the Palestinians who committed the atrocities of Oct 7th up close and personal are not worth a mention.

Then the temerity to question the sanity of people who don’t support Hamas!

That shows the mindset of a lot of pro-Palestinians very clearly.

I think Israelis should accept that their dead are no more significant than the dead of Palestinians and wait in line like everyone else rather than creating more dead bodies. They got the living hostages back. Not to be crass but their dead aren't getting anymore dead, there is no reason they can't wait like everyone else.

Killing children because of a delay on receiving dead bodies is disgusting, I think everyone can agree on that. It elevates the importance of Israeli dead over the lives of Palestinians which is obviously not reality, living Palestinians are more important than the already dead. Those children who killed were more important than the dead hostages and it would be great if everyone would just speak the truth on that rather than waffling pretending that there is any equivalence.

I agree that a life still being lived is worth more than a life already ended.

Which is why its unforgivable for Hamas to risk the ceasefire and the living of their own by hiding a dead body.

There’s nothing frankly “positive” about what Israel is doing at present in bombing innocent people in Gaza:
“The Israeli strikes hit homes, schools and residential blocks in Gaza City and Beit Lahia in the north of Gaza, Bureij and Nuseirat in the centre, and Khan Younis in the south.
Witnesses in Gaza City described seeing "pillars of fire and smoke" rising into the air as explosions shook several residential areas.
Gaza's health ministry said a total of 104 people were killed, including 46 children and 20 women, and that more than 250 others were injured.”

One Israeli soldier dies and a country capable of highly selective action bombs schools and residential buildings. Killing 46 children.

Yeah- it’s really positive what Israel is doing.
