Israelis should be welcome in Birmingham

The government need to act on this. West Midlands police have more than enough man power to police a football match with at most 1000 away fans. I watched West Midlands politics today and there was a politician brazenly saying part of the reason for effectively banning the Tel Aviv fans was they there was 'a moral point about Gaza'. We cannot have local councillors, community leaders and MPs agitating for the anti Semitic ban of fans of one of Israel's premier football teams.

We have to face reality want know that a lot of local residents are anti Israel and have taken this opportunity for VIlla Park to become a no go area for Jews.

Let's hope the decision is overturned and quickly.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Israelis or jewish people in general not being welcome in Birmingham.

It is purely about fans of that particular team having a history of unacceptable behaviour, including racism and islamophobia, and authorities wanting to avoid clashes in and outside the stadium and prioritise the safety of peaceful football lovers.

the issue isn't with any Israelis or Jewish people being in the local area. The issue is the violence that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have carried out previously

Fans, from any club, that behave violently should be banned from attending matches.

I thought the issue was that the police felt unable to protect Jewish fans not that the fans were going to cause trouble themselves.

I'm Jewish and I'd agree it's not antisemitism. If a team's fans have a history of far-right Islamophobia/racism, I gather it would not be unusual for them to be banned from attending matches somewhere with a large Muslim/black community for safety reasons.

And MTA fans do have such a history, sadly - I don't think there's reason to believe they're being singled out because they are Jewish or Israeli, but because of extreme behaviour in the recent past.

And the issue isn't antisemitism either. There is a history of violent thugs being banned from away fixtures in the interests of safety. UEFA provided intelligence to the police about known risks around this fixture. But sure, antisemitism...

Individuals can be banned by proper mechanism of shown to be engaged in criminal acts. It is standard procedure in football.

What is wrong is banning peaceable Israeli Jews and indeed possibly Tel Aviv fans in this country form a sporting event. That is nothing but anti semitic.

As most people realise Aston has become a no go area for Jews and we really must reflect deeply in this shameful episode.
