Why would would you still have pro Palestinian marches apart from now instilling more fear into the Jewish community

Now we have what looks like a peace to be celebrated why are people still going to march for Palestine? The genocide has stopped in their opinion so shouldn't they be at least joyful or if that is not the case what do they really want? Do they want to keep marching until the Israeli state is no more?

I really dont think that bothers some of the supposed 'pro pal' individuals. If it dud they'd be calling for international peace keeping force to prevent that in Gaza.

Hamas stated they are now keeping sone bodies of hostages 'in case' .... also accuse Israel of breaking ceasefire since some Palestinians who approached soldiers near the approved line were shot. Israel said don't approach soldiers on the current approved 'line', they are naturally wary of potential terrorists, why were those Palestinians wanting to approach soldiers who are gradually going to give back under defined terms.

Some dont want this peace to work obviously.

Re deceaseds hostages.
Your comment is not proved
Hamas have not refused to release the dead hostages

This from the BBC

“ Hamas has said it could take time because not all the hostages' burial sites are known.
But Israel's defence minister has warned the Palestinian armed group that "any delay or deliberate avoidance will be considered a gross violation of the agreement and will be responded to accordingly".

in The original ceasefire deal Israel agreed to release 20 Palestinians bodies that they held for every Israeli one.

Of note we have heard nothing yet regarding when or how that will happen or how many dead Palestinians they actually have or why none have been returned yet.
There is no news on who these people are as no names have been released by Israel

Just hoping both sides comply with the ceasefire arrangements

Instead of telling people not to complain about the Palestinian situation why not pressurise the Israeli government to act more decently to avoid making Jewish people the target of hate ?

after all that government is targeting hate and murder on innocents because of the actions of Hamas - apply the same logic to Israel. That government is clearly happy that Jewish people get targeted as a result of their actions

( please no body target Jewish people with hate just because they are Jews . Hate never helps . Peace and love.)

I suspect because a ceasefire was the first step. Palestinians have lived under oppression for a long time and protests will probably now centre more around Palestinian rights e.g the ability to live freely, work freely, own property etc etc.

Hopefully this will extend to such passion and protest for the rights of those living under oppression and extreme regimes in other countries too - such as Iran.

Well quite.

One can care about the Palestinian people in a more practical, productive way than marching.

My MP said that marches are not of much value to him because although they demonstrate strength of feeling, there isn’t a clear call to action that he can act on. Ceasefire now is too vague.

I think marching is also a useful distraction for vaguely left leaning people, who would be otherwise be focused on holding the government to account on issues such as why so many families in the UK are struggling, and our broken public services.

Indeed.

KoalaKoKo · 14/10/2025 12:17

Israel funded Hamas, Israel are now funding militia loyal to Yasser Abu Shabab, a criminal with links to ISIS. It is all a vicious circle - and then Israel use the waring factions they funded to justify oppressing the Palestinians- one would almost think it was deliberate. One might also assume Israel don’t want a united Palestine with a legitimate government!

Palestinians are being lined up on their knees and shot execution style by hamas.
They're more in need of help than ever before, but given the peace deal they're likely to be left undefended.

  • There is still a land and sea blockade in Gaza.
  • There are also no guarantees that Israel won’t return to bombing Gaza again. There are no ramifications if Netanyahu breaks the ceasefire as he has done before.
  • The Israeli army are still oppressing people in the West Bank, raiding houses, threatening people etc…
  • They are still supporting settlers there who are attacking Palestinians, destroying olive groves and houses.
  • They are still demolishing Palestinian houses and building new settlements on recently stolen land.
  • Palestinians are still dying, still being oppressed and still do not have human rights.

This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with human rights. People in Ireland didn’t hate Britain because they were protestant - they hated them because they stole their land, murdered families, deported people by force. People didn’t hate Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein because they were muslim - it was the murder, oppression and human rights violation bit that made people hate them. People didn’t protest the Iraq war because of religion, they came out enmasse because people were dying and our governments were causing that. During the Iraq war I tried to get a taxi in Tunis - we had five taxis who drove out of the rank and refused to take us because they thought we were British so we had to walk, we had a shop assistant tell us to leave and a lot of hostile encounters. In Paris we had a waiter demand to know if we were British or American and then relax once I said Irish (my partner stayed quiet). They didn’t do this because they thought we were protestant or catholic, they did this because the US and UK were bombing Iraq. The marches aren’t against jewish people, they are for human rights and for Palestinians having the right to self determination.

Most of us have lived long enough to have seen several bombing campaigns in Gaza where Israel say they are leaving but continue to control borders, drop the occasional bomb, shoot a few random kids or farmers and then after a few months or a few years bomb the crap out of Gaza again. It is an eternal loop. Every few years you turn on the news in the safety of your own house and see another bombing - a few thousand Gazans dead, kids shot on a beach. You have Israeli leaders who say things about having to “mow the lawn” occasionally. Pre October 7th there was not a genocide but there was oppression, displacement, murder and always the lingering threat of more.

If you don’t want protests and you don’t want uprisings or resistance give people the rights that you yourself enjoy, stop expanding settlements, and make sure that they have nothing to rise up against.

Well said

The issue in the West Bank and bombing Christian churches in Jerusalem could easily trigger an increase in hostilities again. A need to fight back

The situation is still on a knife edge and according to recent interviews will be unless Palestinians have a recognised state.

I don’t think demonstrations will continue and become part of our lives forever because I believe there can be peace. Until that happens I expect people to have enough empathy to demonstrate and push for it.

childofthe607080s · 14/10/2025 12:03

Hamas exist and are powerful only because of the action of Isreal

they would exist but with much less power if Palestine was free from Israel’s guns and settlers

and had investment into hospitals and ports and schools and homes ( after this genocide they will need a lot more investments to sort the problem - if that had happened 10 years ago it would have been a lot cheaper to edge Hamas out )

How very telling to see yet another diatribe about what Palestine needs to be "free", with no mention at all of the importance of removing Hamas

It's not going to happen of course, because too many Palestinians don't want to get rid of them, but as an example of the marchers' only real interest being in hating Israel this one's as good as any

Oh ffs what utter bollocks 🙄🙄

Because it's early days and no other cause is trending on social media more than the Palestinian cause yet.

Give it a few months and some controversial Government policy / cut backs and there will be a new protest cause trending.

If you want to get in early I would bet on ID cards being the next trendy cause. Maybe there's a market for a lanyard with a card saying No ID, could be more popular than keffiyehs?

I'm going for 'not allowing face covering, including niqab' in public as the next battleground. Some European countries have banned it, others are considering it and it was a big take away from the marches that people were emboldened by their anonymity, bit like the internet.

ID cards are less useful when your face is covered so it would need to be considered for their introduction.

SumUp · 14/10/2025 11:03

Yes, thank you @HellsBalls

And I expect someone will come on shortly to say that at least UK families still (mostly) have homes, food banks etc, and Palestinians don’t.

My view is that we can care about and take some action on all of these things in parallel.

HellsBalls · 14/10/2025 10:58

Says who, hamas? You must stop believing everything they say. 'Collaborators' well they would say they wouldn't they.

They are murderers so they murder people.

Says the militia members, says the IDF - though both are murderers and murderers murder people.

Yes what will be next. Mind winter is coming, the marchers don't like the inclement weather it's usually a nice weather/ bank holiday associated hobby. They go quiet until spring generally.

For a two state solution, Palestine is not “free” until they officially have their own sovereign state, free from Israeli control, interference, and threat.
Many people here care about the Palestinian population and want to see all of the above, and they know that none of that will automatically happen. It’s important to keep the pressure up.

We don't have peace. We have a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange. That is very different.

We don't know if that ceasefire will hold. We don't know what either side has planned.

Diplomatic pressure needs to be maintained on both sides to ensure discussions are ongoing. It needs to move to a permanent two state solution or it isn't a solution at all.

No I didn’t think so.

I guess you didn’t see Starmer also embarrassing himself yesterday either.

Oh it was just soooo cringeworthy. He shuffled around looking so very awks and out of place, rightly so. His only contribution was to please hamas with his silly recognising their state bollocks. That is nothing to be proud about.
