What was the purpose of this level of destruction?

Gazans are returning to their homes and are horrified to see the level of destruction. Their joy mixed with despair.

We can feel joy that the hostages are returning home, relief that Hamas will be sidelined - but how do we reconcile with the death and destruction that has happened in Gaza?

This is hilariously one-sided. Do you think it would be that difficult to put together a similar list of what other countries say about Israel? Totally ridiculous to post this.

Again I think you are completely missing the point of this thread @KoalaKoKo s post is relevant.

That could be a picture of any number of other war zones. For the millionth time, please let me know how else you would expect a war zone to look? I hate violence - on both sides. And I hate fear and horror and dead children. I'm not a monster. But I cannot see why Israel is unique in this situation. They were fighting against monsters who were hiding underneath human shields.

The only way to get Hamas to negotiate at all was through fear and even then it took TWO years and the pressure from the states to get them to give back 'most' of the hostages. Hamas isn't a friendly next door neighbour using commonly understood means of conversation - it's a brutal terrorist organisation who wants to destroy everyone and everything it sees. It's not like Hamas is now going to start rebuilding schools and educating women and encouraging mutually beneficial trade relations. There's no future with Hamas at all.

this thread is about the destruction of Gaza it’s perfectly on thread to post that destruction

Other derailing comments in your post aren’t relevant

The Nationalist in Scotland put together some of quotes from Israeli leaders for their front cover - shocking stuff - it answers the question.

Hamas barbarically attacks unarmed Israelí civilians in a declaration of war where their stated aim is to cleans the region of all Jews. A literal declaration of genocidal intent- backed up with action: the rape, torture and murder of women and children. Videoed.

Israel fights back. Hard. With devastating effectiveness.

At no point does Hamas sue for peace or surrender or release all the hostages.

Why would anyone expect any country locked in an existential struggle for survival to stop when the other side hasn’t surrendered?

I don’t believe the Israelis would have kept going if Hamas had surrendered. Perhaps we should look at Hamas and interrogate their actions and motivations more.

I agree.

What Hamas did is evil but the Israeli Government & IDF mirrored that evil a 1000 times and more.

My thoughts are with the displaced people, the ones that died an unnecessary death because of stupid politics and the ones that continue to suffer because of the last 2 years.

That's both Israeli & Palestinian civilians.

There is absolutely NO comparison between the behaviour of Hamas and Israel. Don’t comment on what you don’t understand.

The point was to eradicate Hamas.

Damn right.

they will now start taking all the aid and selling it at high prices.

and continue to hold the Palestinian people to ransom with their violent thuggery.

Why is it so hard to admit that what the IDF and this Current government what they did was just so atrocious , just as what Hamas did on 7oct was atrocious too, but the collective punishment and mass bombings and starvation for the past two years was just criminal . There is no other way around it .

Propaganda - as I said, you’ll find this out in the future. Go look at what’s happening in Gaza right now. You’ll see.

Jujujudo · 13/10/2025 10:46

Just imagine if the world would have collectively insisted that Hamas disarm and return the hostages immediately on Oct 8th!! Just imagine that! The moral and ethical failure does not lie with the Jews or Israelis.

EU pledges support for Gaza reconstruction, reforming the Palestinian Authority
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said the EU will help reform the Palestinian Authority and fund the reconstruction of Gaza.
In a post on X, von der Leyen welcomed the ceasefire deal’s finalisation in Sharm el-Sheikh later today, calling it “a historical milestone”.
“The return of the Israeli hostages is a moment of pure joy for those families. And a moment of relief for the entire world. It means that a page can be turned. A new chapter can begin,” she wrote.
“Europe fully supports the peace plan brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye. We stand ready to contribute to its success with all tools at our disposal, in particular by providing support on governance and for the reform of the Palestinian Authority.
“We will be an active force within the Palestinian Donors Group and will provide EU funding for the reconstruction of Gaza.”
Von der Leyen said the agreement ending the war represented “a new chapter” for the region

And the lies go on and on and on. And the lies go on and on and on. You lot are going to be so embarrassed when the truth is revealed. You’ll still find a way to blame h try Jews but we’re used to it.

What should Israel have done after October 7 in your opinion?

Definitely not fight back! Jews aren’t allowed to fight back! We are supposed to be good quiet Jews as we walk to the gas chambers.

Can you post links to where ANY Western doctor has said ever said they’ve WITNESSED children being shot by the IDF?

You have the audacity to accuse other people of inaccuracy and propaganda……..

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c7893vpy2gqo.amp
evidence of Israeli controlled drones targeting children
and if this ‘western ‘ doctor isn’t white enough for you I’ll share links but ‘western ‘ doctors who are.
the audacity to come on here and type in capitals whilst not even realising how racist you are coming across by demanding the doctor be western. As though eastern doctors are inadequate or their testimonies are not enough. Could you dehumanize those of colour any more !!!!!

Children lying injured in Gaza were picked out and shot by quadcopters, a senior doctor tells MPs.

Genocide.

They’re acting like the Palestinians will now just go back to normal. Their entire infrastructure has been destroyed, they won’t be able to rebuild.

What should Israel have done after October 7 in your opinion?

TicklishMauveSquid · 13/10/2025 08:22

Quite.

How do you explain the casualty figures being so low in comparison to the casualty figures from Hiroshima?

But I thought you said there were no IDF related bombings?
I can refer you to the papers <out of many> that support these findings one was by Prof Paul Rogers who talked about it in a podcast , another is a Harvard paper issued by FxB center for health and human rights , that also states the amount of destruction.

but let’s site deaths of Children by IDF :

“This is not crossfire. These are war crimes,” American emergency physician Mimi Syed told Volkskrant. She documented 18 children shot in the head or chest.
California trauma surgeon Feroze Sidhwa told the paper he initially assumed the cases were isolated until he encountered multiple boys in one hospital, all shot directly in the head. Later, when he compared notes with other international doctors, he realised it was widespread. “This is targeted fire. Someone is pulling a trigger on a child,” he said.
Forensic pathologists consulted by Volkskrant reviewed X-rays and confirmed the wounds were consistent with long-range sniper or drone fire, not shrapnel from explosions. Former Dutch army commander Mart de Kruif said the sheer number of children shot in the head or chest made the claim of “accidents” implausible.
“This is not collateral damage. It is intentional,” he said.

“In August, the BBC World Service uncovered more than 160 cases of children in Gaza shot by Israeli forces. In 95 of those cases, the children were hit in the head or chest – injuries, doctors said, that leave little doubt they were deliberately targeted.
Most of the victims were under 12 years old, according to the BBC’s findings. The incidents stretch from the opening weeks of the war in October 2023 through July this year.”

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 13/10/2025 08:39

What was the purpose? To defeat the terrorist rapists and murderers Hamas, and destroy their huge network of tunnels, where they stored their weapons and sheltered (but didn’t allow women and children in, of course).

I wonder what will happen when Israelis and their supporters have to acknowledge the enormity of what they did? It will not be possible to hide behind these bizarre fabrications forever. The evidence will be overwhelming.

I wonder what will happen when the supporters of Hamas and Gaza who bought into anti Israel and Jewish propaganda realise they’ve been played by terrorists. I hope they will apologise for the vitriol and racism they’ve been trying to justify.

crumpet · 13/10/2025 08:33

To the original op question, I am not sure that the Gaza a returning would be surprised at the level of destruction as it has been so highly publicised.

War is awful. The US lost nearly 3000 people on 9/11. The US war on terror which followed killed nearly 1million people of which nearly half a million were civilians. Let’s not pretend the Israel/Gaza conflict is unique in its awfulness.

PurpleThistle7 · 13/10/2025 08:24

I think terrible things have happened in every war. War is awful and hideous and nothing good comes of it. But when the alternative is the destruction of your own family then what are you left with? No one is winning here and no one is walking away from this unscathed.

But at the end of the day, Israel is fighting against an enemy who wants every single one of them dead. There’s no other end to this for Hamas and all their backers. And if they win and all the Jews and Israelis march off into the sea then they just turn their attention to the rest of the western world without the distraction of the only Jewish country on their doorstep. There’s no peaceful outcome here and it’s heartbreaking.

Roughly the equivalent of six Hiroshima bombs were dropped over Gaza,
more than the carpet bombings of Dresden , Hamburg and London combined.

Quite.
