As you say, Milosevic was put on trial, there's little hope of that for Putin or Assad which gives you some idea of the powers at play. Perhaps Netanyahu will be.

Erm yes, Israel has actually strengthened it’s standing in the middle east over the last 2 years. They have basically eroded pretty much all their enemies, fought a multi-front war, demonstrated extraordinary intelligence capabilities for their size and will probably end up getting those abraham accords signed.

I mean I understand theres a lot of stuff people say on twitter but in terms of the realpolitik of this situation european countries have been completely useless and america and various arab nations have done all the achieving. Theres a massive gap between reality and what some people wish was happening.

People also don’t seem to understand the realities of wars and starting them. You start a war and theres a possibility that you will lose. You start a war and civilians will get hurt. People die in wars, which is why they should be avoided if possible. Theres a combination of wilful blindness and ignorance here. Tell me which war didn’t involve civilian death? You can’t punch someone in the faceand then when you get ounched back roll around on the floor crying and claiming they are the ones that started it. Anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together know exactly how this war started.

You are delusional thinking there will be any peace keeping forces. No one will put their soldiers in a position where they could come into conflict with the IDF, an ally, or be subjected to terrorism off the Islamists.

It’s the first step on the road to peace. They must leave Gaza and start the painful process of trying the war criminals and reparation. Gaza must be helped back onto its feet and supported to create a stable state from the devastation.

Pointing out that its Hamas's responsibility to keep its civilians safe in a war it started is not a lack of empathy. Its allocating responsibility.

Given Israel have stated their aim is to destroy the tunnels, I'm not sure that would age done much good. And it's also probably not practical either. I take it you've not been down this sort of tunnel - I have (though not in Gaza), and they are unpleasant to walk through. You simply can't store 2 million people down there.

I guess the Bosnians in Sarajevo also let their citizens down by not letting them live in the smuggling tunnels as well. Totally their fault if they were killed above ground eh...

Is it standard practice for the government of a country at war not to allow civilians to shelter in underground structures, like in, let’s say, hundreds of miles long tunnels?

I really wish people would drop pretending that the number of children being maimed or killed is totally standard warfare.

I’ve not mentioned a ceasefire before 7/10. I think the current war started on 7/10 so I would not be calling the period before it a ceasefire. More like a kind of uneasy truce but one where violence was liable to break out fairly often- not a full scale war though, that was unexpected.

Obviously Hamas shouldn’t have hostages at all but given how much of Gaza has been destroyed, isn’t it likely that they’ve died in those areas and are not necessarily identifiable now? (I genuinely don’t mean that with any disrespect at all).

Personally I think the really vital thing is getting back the live hostages asap.

Many countries have compulsory military service, many british idealists went to fight in the Spanish civil war, some british kids went off to join daesh. I think there are things worth fighting for or against, whether they are the same things as you I couldn't say. How we fight them is another matter.
