Conflict in the Middle East

Feel like once the hostages are handed over Israel will start bombing again

It seems too good to be true, a final end to the war.

After all the plans that were announced with regards to annexation and the Israeli far-right government members, I can’t help but feel that once all of the hostages are released Israel will go ham on Gaza.

There will be nothing to stop them bombing everywhere.

No hostages to avoid bombing.

No families pleading with the Israeli ministers.

Israel has broken so many ceasefires and this was with the hostages lives at stake.

I don’t know, but I can’t celebrate with everyone as I don’t believe it will last and my heart says that’s it’s going to get worse.

So now Hamas are all over social media dishing out punishments to Gazans, threatening dissent with death, insisting on being part of the future of Gaza, will the Pro-Palestine marches now change their narrative from Israel to Hamas?

No, in fact the last march I saw being planned was agitating for military action against Israel.

And today there's this:

I’m based in England.

No my position is not that most countries support the war in Gaza.

My post said lots of countries are allies of Israel, including the UK.

Not everything is about this war! These are long standing political alliances which began after the war and will continue after it.

So basically the specific allying I was referring to is not what you were talking about?

So do you feel Israel has any support for its actions (I’m avoiding the term genocide despite it being widely accepted internationally because that discussion isn’t going anywhere) outside of the US, and I guess I really mean Trump and his groupies?

Sorry … meant alliances that began before the war and will continue after it.

I don’t know if disgruntled is the right term. To me the man is awful. If he was the only one speaking up for me I would pause to think about why.

I would be fucking grateful if he was helping me more than my own government.

EsmaCannonball · 11/10/2025 13:47

Genocide victims don't generally get offered generous ceasefire terms, repeatedly reject said ceasefire terms and then quibble and prevaricate over the ceasefire terms.

So in effect you’re saying you think abducting the hostages and refusing to release them until Hamas got what they wanted was a good idea. Have I got that right?

He's not the only one wanting a ceasefire or the ceasefire wouldn't have happened. I personally think its fucking brilliant that the most powerful man in the world wants to fix one of the world's most intractable problems rather than let it rumble and fester on. It spoils the narrative of the Americans encouraging genocide, I grant you, but I feel that's a small price to pay.

This is how I see it too.

Try looking at the news, Israeli press and social media. They are delighted that a ceasefire has happened and the hostages are coming home. As any decent person is.

Israelis are celebrating, Gazans are celebrating, but some posters on MN are disgruntled because Trump is involved.

Yes but that wasn’t the focus of my questions. We have of course seen many celebrations and demonstration of intent by Israelis. Not just now but throughout the last years.

What I said was

Has any country beyond Trumpland bought into the Israeli narrative? I wonder what normal Israelis think of having that guy as their only ally?

Further reports of the Hamas arrest campaign in Gaza City

Colour me surprised . Poor buggers.

Most western countries are allied to Israel.
There is no genocide in Gaza, hence the ceasefire. A real genocide would have resulted in the death of a million plus Gazans.

There doesn’t have to be 1 million deaths for it to be a genocide, thats not how it’s defined.

The reason the west are allied with Israel isn’t because they are the “good guys” it’s keeping an ally in the ME, money, power. They are all as bad as each-other.

Hamas are out and out terrorists who wan’t Israel gone, the Israeli government is a terrorist pretending to be good, who wan’t Palestine gone

Israel have committed genocide on the Palestinian people, Hamas are terrorists and have committed atrocities, they want money and power.

People stick up for the Palestinians because who else does? Not their government, not the world governments, they have been left to die with no place to escape because of greedy, evil men in power.

SharonEllis · 11/10/2025 13:08

Twiglets1 · 11/10/2025 12:17

Doubt even the most vocal pro Pals on MN would want to be living under that oppressive regime themselves.

Not for them, not for their precious children.

But it was apparently ok for Gazans to continue to live under Hamas since there was no mass call or protests to Get Hamas Out.

This!!

Ahhh I see so you believe that not enough people have been killed and persecuted to warrant the term “genocide” despite so very many people agreeing it is so? It’s a word. Outside of Israel it’s what we call the actions of Israel in Gaza, but we could use Carnage, or Slaughter, for now, if it means you can focus on the discussion more easily.
Is your position that Israel’s actions in Gaza are accepted and applauded in “the West” or indeed “the east”, “the north” or “The south”?

Israel will release the exact number of prisoners agreed by the peace plan. But it’s almost like Hamas don’t get to dictate exactly what they want isn’t it?

They will need to get used to that fast and so will their supporters/apologists around the world.

The deal stated they would release 250 prisoners serving life. So that would include your terrorists presumably. Hence why it makes little sense to pick and choose at this late stage because terrorists are going to be released anyway, which rather makes your previous point moot.

TomeTome · 11/10/2025 12:38

Twiglets1 · 11/10/2025 12:26

Not their only ally.

For example the UK is still an ally of Israel.

Israel has many allies although (being democratic countries) they are free to criticise some of the actions of the Israel government and also free to call for a 2 state solution in Gaza.

Yep. But it was always Hamas. There’s plenty of stuff on social media about them executing alleged collaborators.

I'd like to point people to the 2015 report by Amnesty International about Hamas's methods. Warning: it contains distressing photos.

https://www.amnesty.org/en/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/MDE2116432015ENGLISH.pdf

Hamas are not freedom fighters, they are terrorists, including agains their own people and pose a continued threat to peace in Gaza.

The idea that they want their 'fighters' to be members of any future Palestinian military who Hamas will hand their weapons to is just a continuation of the current situation.

Although many are held without trial It’s fair to say an overwhelming number of prisoners will have been found to have done something. Do we just release no prisoners during a prisoner release deal then?

Back to the thread subject, I think at this point the biggest risk to many Gazans now that the IDF is withdrawing, is Hamas. There are now widespread reports of them executing and torturing opponents:
