Feel like once the hostages are handed over Israel will start bombing again

It seems too good to be true, a final end to the war.

After all the plans that were announced with regards to annexation and the Israeli far-right government members, I can’t help but feel that once all of the hostages are released Israel will go ham on Gaza.

There will be nothing to stop them bombing everywhere.

No hostages to avoid bombing.

No families pleading with the Israeli ministers.

Israel has broken so many ceasefires and this was with the hostages lives at stake.

I don’t know, but I can’t celebrate with everyone as I don’t believe it will last and my heart says that’s it’s going to get worse.

I would imagine that there is 100's if not 1000's of human remains buried deep in the rubble, time lapsed and relentless bombing wouldn't leave much behind. 😔

Surely you'd know where you kept hostages though? They're bargaining chips.
Unless their captors were killed, which is a possibility of course.

Of course they would know where they last had the hostages. They were rather valuable to them.

Yes! That's what I don't understand!

Ah another one that assumed the majority of pro Palestinians supported Hamas despite being told the opposite time and time again. Pro Palestinians care about Palestinians

someone needs to go into Gaza and sort out Hamas'.
Yes Hamas, but not by killing over 60,000 of the population, 20,000 of which are children, bombing hospitals, schools, homes and restricting humanitarian aid.

Over the years I've seen a lot of 'pro Palestinian' discourse that has simply ignored the fact that Hamas even exist. Or if they do exist, it's in some sort of ethereal cloud that is entirely separate to the Palestinian population, instead of very much being a part of it. Hamas are not Palestinians, Palestinians are not Hamas. Israel only kills civilians and no one is fighting back.

And now Israel has left, it seems to be undeniable that Hamas actually exist as a bunch of Palestinian terrorists who kill people, and that actually is a problem.

SharonEllis · 14/10/2025 08:59

OrangeAxolotyl · 14/10/2025 08:55

Surely those who held them hostage would know of their whereabouts, though? Even enough to enable a search?
According to Sky News, some hostages were passed on to another Palestinian group, not Hamas (added to clarify).

I understand (it was on BBC news this morning) that Hamas have only returned 4 of the 28 dead bodies of hostages and have been given a deadline to return the remaining bodies as agreed in the ceasefire plan.

I heard that sadly the remaining hostages may never be recovered some areas are completely rubble and dust.

I was thinking about the returnees before I slept last night, the relief must be immense on both sides.

The Palestinian people released are returning to rubble and dust.

I'm not usually a fan of Donald Trump but he made progress. I hope it stays peaceful.

PotatoesandOatsforlife · 14/10/2025 08:53

I've heard they're struggling to access them because of all the rubble. I hope they can be found and returned for everyone's sake.

Oh please!

@SharonEllis yes of course I heard about the Oxfam Haiti scandal. Horrific.
But, to disregard every single human rights organisation and children's charity that have condemned Israeli actions, on the basis that not everyone can be trusted, defies logic. As well as decency. As though there's a conspiracy between all the human rights organisations to frame Israel. That's ludicrous.

The double standards here are shocking. Whenever anyone has doubted reports of sexual violence on October 7th by Hamas, people have quite rightly been outraged. Myself included. But, now some of those same outraged are doubting (or outrightly denying) reports of abuse of children by the Israeli authorities. It's disgusting.

I will always be on the side of victims, because I believe women, and I believe children, and I trust a broad consensus by human rights bodies.

Not sure I can remain on this thread, as some of the posts, the bias and the double standards, are making me feel sick actually.

Oh for goodness sake, I didn't say disregard every single human rights organisation and children's charity' because of Haiti did I? You said STC and random, undefined 'human rights organisations' were unbiased and their investigations shoukd be accepted as truth. I and others pointed out why that trust and acceptance should not be automatic. And then you're equivocating over the zionists or some of the zionists?

Yes, I've just been reading that. It was part of the ceasefire agreement, but I do wonder why they haven't returned them yet, I have read that they may be with another terror group.
I hope that they locate and return them.

there should be peace keeping troops in Gaza protecting civilians and stabilising the strip now that law and order has completely broken down

I get the feeling people are inching closer and closer to saying 'someone needs to go into Gaza and sort out Hamas'.

If someone drops the word 'Zionists' in, one wonders what exactly they've been reading.

It's not a word used in normal political discourse about this topic, but one used by screaming lunatics who use 'Zionist' as a synonym for 'big fan of Netanyahu', 'worst person alive' and often as a codeword for 'Jew'. None of which are the actual meaning of Zionist.

SharonEllis · 14/10/2025 08:39

PotatoesandOatsforlife · 14/10/2025 08:32

@SharonEllis I just read my post back, and realise I said 'some of the Zionists '. So, that's quite different from saying 'the Zionists', without the some caveat. I should have just said some Zionists, and omitted the word 'the'. But it's obvious what I meant, and that I meant no offence.

Sorry, no, loose use of the term 'zionists' doesn't get a pass.

Twiglets1 · 14/10/2025 08:36

@PotatoesandOatsforlife you probably regard me as very "pro Israel" but let me assure you I definitely don't think that Israel can do " no wrong".

Off the top of my head, some things I have criticised Israel for on this board:
The Settlers
Netanyahu & his government endorsing a plan to increase the settlements
Humanitarian aid being paused for 2 months
The failure of the GHF to properly address the needs of Gazans with them being dangerous and too few sites.
Netanyahu not reigning in or firing some of his more extreme ministers.

What have you criticised the Palestinian government for? I'm not even familiar with your username but you seem to know all about the "Zionists" on here. A term by the way, that I didn't even know the meaning of until fairly recently and being educated on it by some on this board.

Have we not been telling you for years that Palestinian civilians are vulnerable to Hamas?
Sorry could you point out where I or anyone else on here ever said Hamas were positive for Palestinians? Stop being so patronising and displaying such black and white thinking. I know Hamas were not good for Gaza I also know that the IDF and the Israeli government are not good for Gaza, especially Palestininan children in Gaza, both can be true. When I am talking about vulnerable Palestinians I am talking about the people there now today living in tents, displaced, traumatised, digging in the rubble for what remains of the bodies of their love ones, with no functioning medical facilities, no homes, no functioning schools, universities, jobs, etc etc you know the things we need to live and survive. I am talking about the aftermath, I am talking about securing the strip and rebuilding and protecting civilians from civil unrest and gangs lobbying for power and the IDF.

Gotta say, I missed the marches for peacekeepers to go in and save Palestinians from Hamas. But do let us know when thr next one is.

Maybe finally admit that people actually cared about Palestinians and what happens to them it is not about hating jews is it? It is about humanity. Is it disappointing to you that now there is a ceasefire pro Palestinians don't just stop caring because Israel aren't bombing and killing them any more? Did you realIy believe that people wouldn't want to see medical, practical and psychological support, peacekeepers and rebuilding? In your words Make it make some fucking sense.

You have missed the point really.

SharonEllis · 14/10/2025 08:27

PotatoesandOatsforlife · 14/10/2025 07:53

@SharonEllis I used the term 'the Zionists' to refer to the very pro Israel posters on here. I obviously didn't mean all Zionists everywhere.
I agree it was a sloppy use of language, and I shouldn't have used those words. I actually thought that myself, immediately after posting. I apologise for that. The rest of my post stands. It was a long post, and to disregard all of it purely on the basis two words near the end is unfortunate. It should have been clear from my post that I oppose prejudice and violence on both sides. People often accidentally use the wrong words, but the context and intentions are important.

I didn't disregard it on the basis of two words. There were quite a lot of other red flags - lumping all 'pro-Israeli' posters together, suggesting that collectively we think Israel can do no wrong when that is obviously untrue. But above all that collectively 'human rights organisations and Save the Children' are unbiased, and their investigations 'should absolutely be accepted as truth' ? When we have seen so many issues with reliability, bias and bad behaviour. In the context of your point, for example, the sexual exploitation scandal and cover up conducted by Oxfam in Haiti? No organisation should be automatically accepted as without bias or reliable.

the vast majority don’t believe Hamas carried out any atrocities on October 7
Sorry the vast majority? Have you anything to back up such an inflammatory statement?

Maybe instead of angrily tapping your keyboard read the attachments to my post,

“Indeed, almost 90% of the public believes Hamas men did not commit the atrocities depicted in videos taken on that day [Oct 7].

Yet Hamas continue to have the support of many Palestinians, the vast majority don’t believe Hamas carried out any atrocities on October 7. They continue to view the West as a whole as the enemy, https://www.pcpsr.org/en/node/997

Women are treated appallingly by the general population http://www.mdgfund.org/node/3608

treatment of gay men in Gaza - engaging in homosexual activity carries a prison sentence of 10 years (although rather more summary justice is dispatched by the population/families).

If innocent civilians are 'left vulnerable'?! I mean make up your mind. I thought everyone wanted Israel out? Have we not been telling you for years that Palestinisn civilians are vulnerable to Hamas? Yet we are told only Palestinians can govern Palestinians? Do you not think crushing dissent was always Hamas's modus operandi?

Gotta say, I missed the marches for peacekeepers to go in and save Palestinians from Hamas. But do let us know when thr next one is.
