Children account for nearly one-third of all the war dead whose bodies have been collected and identified before burial.

The list of named victims maintained by health authorities in Gaza is recognised as authoritative by the international community, the UN and Israel’s military, although Israeli politicians frequently try to dismiss it.

But the strict rules that ensure its credibility also mean it cannot capture the full scale of tragedy inflicted on Gaza’s children and their families.
Missing from the toll are the thousands of victims still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings as well as the war’s many indirect victims. Israel’s blockade has created deadly shortages of food, medicine, clean water and fuel.

Starvation has killed at least 150 children.

They are not hostages.

What are they? 5k+ have not been charged with anything incl. hundreds of children, and I can clearly see an IDF soldier captured from a tank being described as a hostage, so the remaining 3k who israel claim are prisoners of war surely qualify under this description.

True, after this phase of hostage release the number is down to 8000.

May the other 9,000 quickly follow.

There are not 9000 hostages.

I am pleased to see the first hostages are being handed over to the Red Cross.

May the other 9,000 quickly follow.

Front page of The National in Scotland today! How damning and powerful is that, to literally list some of the quotes from Israeli leaders. I had heard a lot of them but not all, so shocking!

@KoalaKoKokindly do you not think you are Just as guilty of the things you profess others do ‘on the other side’? Even that comment as stand alone (and not considering the ones you have had deleted on other threads) shows your historical bias

Actually I was raised in a house where my parents were passionate about history - we were taught at a young age to look at both sides, read widely and look at the source of all information and if it is backed up with facts. This is also a key skill they teach you in University when researching any subject really.

I have read widely on this subject, I’ve read and listened to testimonials from Israeli soldiers, from Palestinians, from settlers. I’ve read the broadsheets, the tabloids, the Israeli papers, US, UK and EU papers. I know someone who volunteered in Israel helping out at settlements 50+ years ago, I know people who have volunteered in Palestine too. I know people who have lived in Israel and in Palestine - I have talked to Israelis and Palestinians. As part of a postgrad I undertook a module that actually focused on the use of propaganda in wars. My interest is not new - I have followed this conflict for over 30 years.

Also I have not deleted any of my posts - I am not sure what you are talking about??

BelleHathor · 12/10/2025 22:33

No, there are people just denying that it was a Colonial project despite Zionist leaders explicitly saying so in their own words, they wrote about the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine as a form of colonialism, and their aims to replace the indigenous Palestinian population with a Jewish majority.

Hence their discussion of the "transfer" of Palestinians to neighbouring countries (as they were worried about not having a Jewish majority). It was openly known and planned for the removal of Palestinians to facilitate the establishment of a viable Jewish state hence Plan Dalet and the Nakba.

The narrative on this only changed in the 1980s after the New Historians (Pappe et al) got access to the Israeli archives and the exposed the atrocities committed during the establishment of Israel.

BelleHathor · 12/10/2025 21:42

You are correct. Saying Israel was not a settler Colonial project is historical revisionism.

Even Theodor Herzl spoke about "spiriting away the natives" and the early Zionist congresses sent delegates to places like Argentina and Uganda to explore "settling" in those countries.

Newspaper headlines starting from the 1890s to early 20th century.

A well regarded professional historian would know this.

Try reading the article. Noone is denying that Jewish people 'settled' there from outside.

This post absolutely crosses a line.
Dehumanising language about children and refugees. I work closely with child refugees fleeing war and this is quite honestly a disgusting comment. You wouldn’t last a day in those families shoes.

The wilful ignorance on these boards is shocking - you can tell some of these posters have never had a conversation with a Palestinian and instead rely on whatever distorted view they learned about in school or in the Israeli news! People who spend their days online spewing out hate against people they have never spoken to but are so convinced that they are all anti semitic and deserving of their fate.

The thing is it suits zionists to be ignorant because if they admit how the country was created and how Palestinians were treated then opens the awkward question of if they should get their land back. The settlers at the end of the Tantura documentary are quite open about that - they talk about how the Israeli arabs want a plaque to commemorate the dead and acknowledge the massacre - the majority of the settlers are against it with one strongly in favour. She argues that they all know the massacre happened so why not commemorate it the way they did at massacre sites after WW2. The other 3 say that if they acknowledge it it doesn’t bring back the dead but might open the doors to people looking for their land back and they don’t want to give it back. They are quite open about why they want it forgotten! The resounding response by the Israelis in the documentary, including a judge, on hearing the evidence of the massacre is that they are dead and that can’t be changed so we should all move on and not talk about it. When war crime charges drop and they are forced to admit how many people were murdered I am sure there will be a similar response of “well they’re dead so just move on”.

It’s not ‘ colloquial use’ at all. That’s a ridiculous statement @willowtree99

Its such a tedious game pretending Jews are not real 'semites'.

Bit rich of you to accuse others of being radicalised when you've posted open support of Sinwar.

Everyone is biased on this subject. Including you and I.

Biased viewpoints are absolutely worth reading too. They may have experience, expertise.

Its also worth reading biased viewpoints in order to understand how other people have arrived at a viewpoint different to one's own.

It is not a settler colonial state. Having natutal levels of prejudice and racism, which, unfortunately is a human characteristic, is not a defining feature of a colonial settler state FFS.

Below a definition of a settler colonial state you need to get on to Google they disagree

Key characteristics
Displacement and replacement:
The primary goal is to dispossess and replace the indigenous population with a settler population to create a new, permanent society.

Land and resource control:
Settler states are fundamentally built on the control and exploitation of the land and its resources.

Erasure of indigenous culture:
There is an intentional effort to eliminate or assimilate the culture, rights, and presence of the original inhabitants.

Perpetual structure:
Settler colonialism is often described as an ongoing structure rather than a single event, meaning its effects and systems of oppression continue over time.

Political dominance:
The settler society establishes political control and creates an independent or autonomous state that is self-sustaining, independent of the original colonizing power.

Examples of settler colonialist states
The United States and Canada are frequently cited as examples, due to the displacement and genocide of Indigenous peoples.

South Africa under apartheid is a former example, where a white settler minority established political dominance.

Israel is a contemporary example, with analysis focusing on its efforts to control land and displace Palestinians.

Reading back I am profoundly shocked at some of the posts ‘ they chose to be part of this conflict’

wow.

Its very shocking to see the lack of historical understanding and open racism.

But perhaps this racism is also/ has been demonstrated in the Israeli states attitude to Palestinians perhaps Israeli society needs to examine this side of itself , I posted in response to people dismissing any idea that Israel has acted like a settler colonialist state
