Hamas’ reasoning?

As we hit 2 years since the October 7th attack, is anyone any further towards understanding why Hamas attacked the people they did on that day? As in their actual reason for that attack? And for the choice of those communities? Did the organisation ever explain why they chose that event?

Before anyone says Google, I have! And there are broad reasons, but I’m trying to understand the reason for that type of attack, and beginning at a music festival?

Honestly when people see things in such a black & white way and fail to look at the other perspective the cycle of violence just continues
Exactly that. If people truly believe that it solely comes down to just killing all the Jews, what hope is there for our world. As basis and pointless as saying the IDF just want to get rid of all Palestinians.

Decades and decades of conflict, 100s of highly intelligent people including skills negotiators, historians, political and sociological experts, etc....for mere MN posters to conclude it just about wanting to exterminate the other race....its disparaging to read!

When it comes to ‘the Jews’, it is that simple. Two millennia of wanting to get rid of ‘the Jews’.

User37482 · 08/10/2025 16:39

I think at the time derailing the Israel Saudi normalisation process and the Abraham accords was probably part of it. They knew Israel would be forced to go into Gaza if they held Israeli hostages and literally nothing enrages the Arab public more than Israel.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/10/2025 16:18

They wanted to trigger a massive retaliation as a recruitment tool.

Here is a good list!

Yesterday’s marches were to honour the martyrs of October 7th.
People need to realise that just behind Jews on the Islamic hatred scale are LGBTQ.

October 7th, and all the subsequent protests, has reminded the world that Islamist extremism is still prevalent.
Many people, ‘the silent majority’, are wondering why their Christian countries are having pro-Islamist demonstrations. Why are there so many people chanting ‘Death! Death!’ ‘Rise up!’ every weekend.
The countries recognizing Palestine and allowing these demonstrations are lining themselves up for far right wing governments.
We will see this with Reform in the UK.

I read an article in a German news outlet about a pro Palestine protest in Berlin yesterday, where people were chanting “Yallah, yallah, resistance, everywhere, in every country!”
Resistance to what exactly?

Yamamm · 08/10/2025 07:01

You can’t look at the conflict from the point of view of logic and reason. The vast majority will absolutely believe in their religion and believe they have to fight for that religion. They believe they are doing the right and moral thing. All manipulated quite easily because when religion is the law and death is the consequence of not believing there is no choice:

This.

I thought there have been spells of resistance against Hamas as some Palestinians recognise them for what they are.

I mean, really do the Palestinians have much of a choice? Not sure sure how much of a hero / resister I’d be with violent thugs holding a gun to my head and using my children as shields.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 08/10/2025 05:53

They absolutely knew it would provoke a response from Israel. They wanted a response so that they could claim victim status. They couldn’t care less about their own people.

The poor Palestinians caught between evil Hamas and mental Netanyahu and his horrific government.

mids2019 · 08/10/2025 05:32

I am sure Hamas had the campaign of global Jew hate as a goal when it launched its attack. Indeed some of their depraved planning documents show they wanted to inspire copy cat action throughout the world.

The irony is that Hamas currently want to keep small arms as they fear not Israelis but Palestinians who would fear then apart in future as revenge for descending Gaza into a self destructive war as well as rival gangs.

part of the global hate campaign currently is to try and legitimise the right of future P alestinains to choose a 'democtraric' leadership that once again embodies the hateful manifesto of Hamas i.e. to continue their euphemistic struggle.

Hamas is a terrorist organisation who would like to see all Jewish people wiped out.

Palestinians are not the only people in history who’ve experienced hardship and injustice.
Of course, they can choose to pass their grievances on over generations, that will hardly lead to peace and prosperity though.

I think that may be more acceptable to say if their hardship is in the past, but for the Palestinians their struggles in Gaza and the West Bank are still very much ongoing.

And yet this type of hatred runs very deep and is passed on over generations.

Looking at historical events especially colonial rule can give real understanding about how deep and far reaching these events are.

Well Hamas deliberately started a war they couldn’t win by military means, knowing full well Israel would have no choice but to go into Gaza to dismantle capability for repeat attacks as any other country would.

They deliberately set Palestinians up as human sacrifices so Israel would be demonised on the world stage for going to war. They had two years planning to set the stage and had a unit of videographers and media officers to direct their insidious propaganda.

Hamas’s only real weapon, except when slaughtering and raping civilians in their homes, at music festivals and in bomb shelters, is propaganda heavily reliant on Jew hatred which they banked correctly on still being widespread and easily inflamed into a global hate machine.

’Genocide’ was declared before Israel were on the ground in Gaza IIRC and ‘famine’ has been declared every few months.

I remember an older Gazan man caught on video early in the war, shouting ‘Hamas lied to us’.

It could be assumed that Hamas either told them Israel would not dare to go into Gaza due to pressure from the global community or due to them holding all the hostages they were using as human shields.

I think that’s quite a good explanation.

Nothing justifies what Israel has been doing over the last 2 years either. And what Israel has done was on a much bigger scale.

It wouldn’t have happened had Hamas not launched their horrific attack two years ago. And they knew exactly what they were doing.

Absolutely. Hamas’s objective has never been Palestinian welfare or statehood. Hamas has two objectives: the destruction of the State of Israel, and the creation of a borderless Caliphate.

Could you not just sit with the truth of the statement you replied to, without minimisation?

" But Gaza" is a tired and too obvious deflection tactic used to stifle reasoning that gets in the way of Gazans Are The Only Worthy Victims propaganda that has been going on for the last two years.

Passed over generations due to brainwashing.

We generally pick up on our parents/caregivers hate. Kids soak up everything and want to please them.

It’s quite simple.

Few have the courage or strength to question and break free from childhood programming because it generally means they fit in anymore.

Mosab Hassan Yousef is a case in point and hated for it.

TicklishMauveSquid · 07/10/2025 12:49

Funny how Gazans, who the IDF are alleging indiscriminately genociding, think of the IDF as ‘sheep’ but in the West, the IDF are labelled blood thirsty, baby killing, monsters.

Of course, but however appalling your history a person can stop and think raping and mutilating this woman in front of me is not the right thing to do and I'm not going to do it. Many, many people and nations suffered upheaval, hideous conflict and oppression in the first half of the 20th century. Its not an excuse for the level of barbarity witnessed on 7 october.
