Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

In a televised statement this evening, Netanyahu said that all the Israeli hostages in Gaza will be released in the “coming days”.

The IDF will remain “deep in Gaza” as the hostages are released, he said, adding that Hamas would be forced to disarm “either the easy way or the hard way”.

“I hope that in the coming days we will be able to bring back all our hostages... during the Sukkot holidays.”

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins on Monday and lasts until the following Monday.

Trumps done bloody well to bang their heads together. Hamas need to accept, stick to their side of the bargain and protect their people. They won’t though - cowardly snakes

That’s as I understand the situation too, from Channel 4 news reports. Trump saying he appreciates the Government of Israel ceasing firing into Gaza. Yet rockets continue to rain down and kill people.

I don’t know much about those included in the discussions

Syria, Iran, Lebanon are places in the region that have welcomed islamists in the past. They have some affiliations in those countries.

As long as they're the right type of islamist of course.

Lebanon has had a bad experience of offering sanctuary to Palestinian terrorist organisations- the last time they did that it led to the Lebanese civil war which turned one of the most peaceful and successful Middle Eastern countries into a pile of rubble.

Syria is currently under new management and having just come out of a civil war doesn't really want to import terrorists to start another one.

Iran are also not best pleased with Hamas for starting this wider conflict which has destroyed their proxy war against Israel. That said I'm sure they would offer them sanctuary if only to enable them to execute or imprison them.

Libya which under Gadaffi offered the final sanctuary to Palestinian terrorists last time is also in the midst of a civil war and doesn't want to import yet more terrorists.

The only two countries that I see as most sympathetic to Hamas and might just offer them sanctuary are Ireland and Spain.

Ah I didn't realise they were to be booted out but hopefully with serious conditions on monitoring their identity and whereabouts so they can't disappear off radar and regroup elsewhere like an isis style bunch trying to make a state.

I think it's positive, in that there is a willingness to negotiate. The difficulty is there are effectively 3 deals in the table now. The one agreed by the 8 Middle Eastern countries, the one agreed by Trump and Netenyahu and the one agreed to by Hamas.

The sensible thing would be to negotiate between those terms, put aside the terms that all parties agree to - return of hostages, cessation of violence, and in the interim Gaza being governed by someone other than Hamas.

The trickier parts are (1) extent and timing of withdrawal (2) path to 2 state solution (3) disarmament of Hamas but ideally not leaving Gaza totally vulnerable (4) the make up - and chair, of the governance (5) how the land will be returned to Gazans.

I'd like to think that with everyone at the negotiating table, and a genuine desire for peace (which I'm not sure exists on any side frankly, but one can hope!), something can be agreed.

I just hope no one does anything stupid, on either side, to jeopardise this slither of hope. No terrorist attack on Israel, no incendiary comments from Israel about the future.

The meeting was attended by security chiefs, Defence Minister Israel Katz, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

I am saying hamas terrorists will not be welcome in Egypt, Turkey Saudi or Qatar etc etc even if it is nicer weather than here. Yes Qatar have the rich bosses but they won't want the rag tag terrorists from gaza. So they may well head west. Nothing 'sinister', not derailing just stating a fact as we've seen it happen with every other conflict in the ME.

It is looking like some kind of end is in sight. So that for now is something to be thankful for.

Talks between Israel and Hamas are set to start tomorrow in Egypt, Channel 12 reports, saying that they are likely to be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

US envoy Steve Witkoff is on his way to Egypt.

Israel’s negotiating team is to be headed by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.
