Hamas won't disarm - that is the barrier to peace

So Hamas probably will reject a peace plan that has been globally accepted including the PA as it refused to disarm. Hasan fighters would rather carry on basically a suicidal guerrilla campaign rather than lay down arms for a peace so many right minded people desperately want. Don't Hamas realise they will lose Gaza and effectively their 'fighting' force will be groups of jihadis who engage in occasional small arms fire that in all likelihood result in their deaths? What sort of mind set does this group have where they are willing to prolong a vicious war with no thought to the people they are meant to stand for? Hamas hope is grounded only in the West being weak and applying more pressure on Israel and conceding to the terrorist Hamas. If the West more fully backs Israel now then Hamas may lose that one deranged hope and possibly their doomed war may end.

Jordan is anything but a hell hole. It's a wonderful country with fantastic food, loads of sights to see - Wadi Rum, Petra, Jerash, Dead Sea and also amazing diving in Aqaba. The people are very welcoming and friendly and it's an amazing winter holiday destination.

Lastly this is all the more amazing given that it is an oasis of stability surrounded by notion neighbours.

PS/ if the Jordanian Tourist Board wants to give me a free holiday for a glowing review then I'll gladly take it up😀

But tourists are not necessarily going to see nor understand the social fractures brought about by displaced Palestinians. It’s a major reason why they won’t accept any more refugees.

I'm glad to hear it, when I saw pp's list I wondered what had happened. I liked the old king when I heard him speak, he sounded like a man who cared about his people but I don't know much about his son.

One of the things I remember (trivial I know) is how amazingly stylish the women were, and how frumpy I felt in comparison. Yes they were mostly modestly dressed but the band under their hijabs matched their long sleeves, amazing make up, sunglasses, and most of the young women looked like they'd stepped out of a fashion magazine 😂

Syria wasn't such a fashion wow, but it made me smile to see women in strappy tops and shorts wandering round the souks with their friends wearing niqab. And the most covered up women ever buying very skimpy lingerie from the souk's version of Anne Summers.

I did have to pretend that I was married to my boyfriend though as otherwise we wouldn't have been allowed to share a hotel room.

Our friends were there less than 18 months ago. We did question the sense of it, tbh (only to ourselves) but they encountered no difficulties whatsoever. That’s why I was surprised to see another poster describe Jordan as an “hellhole”. Of course, things can change quickly but as reported, it still seems to be one of the more settled ME states.

Reward is an odd choice of word to use.
Palestine is recognised by other countries as being its own state.
Netanyahu knew that they would never agree to this clause which is probably why he included it. Add to that that Nethanyahu cannot be trusted so there is absolutely no point in Hamas agreeing to it.

I suppose not mentioning the demand leaves it open for Hamas to agree to it in private, and publicly at some later point. But it doesn’t bode well. As I said, fanatical antisemitic death cults like Hamas don’t easily change course. They’re not inclined to stop killing, torturing and getting rich off drug running, extortion and stealing aid.
