A rational person would have seen the video of a young woman, just 22 years old, Shani Louk, defiled, broken, murdered, almost naked body on the back of that pick up truck, her head held by her hair, men with their legs over her as a sign of ownership, like an animal they’d hunted and killed, ‘innocent civilians’ hitting her dead body with sticks, spitting at her and cheering while holding their phones aloft filming her to keep this sick spectacle as a memory, and a rational person would have felt extreme disgust, injustice, horror, disbelief and primal rage at the people who did this to her for no reason other than a hatred of Jewish people.

They would certainly have immediately picked a side.

No past grievances could explain that and the Palestinians showed themselves for who they are very clearly that day 2 years ago IMO.

The name changing is very very common on MN (and not against the rules I know). But it does make it look like Sharon and I post more than people on the pro Pal "side" because I never change my username and I don't think they do either.

You see, this is a staggering comment. Yes the conflict has gone on for a long time. But 7 October was of a different magnitude in the way it came out of the blue and in its barbarity and savagery and in its clearly genocidal intent. How anyone could not be sympathetic to the victims is beyond belief. Instead, some people shrugged and at least implied the Jews had it coming, and others immediately celebrated around the world. And I point out again that the biggest spike in antisemitic attacks in this country happened immediately.

Even so ... you seem like a decent person. What is the relevance of pointing out someone posts a lot on a forum beyond trying to silence them?

Sorry, that's just not true. There may have been people that don't support 2 states but I don't recall when I last saw it expressed. Twiglets and I are very much in favour of 2 states and have said so many times.

Yes there's a long and complex feud which admittedly I am no expert on. But I don't feel like I need to be an expert to know which side triggered this particular conflict and this is the one I'm debating not the others.

A rational person probably wouldn't immediately pick a side, given the long and complex nature of the feud. This didn't start on October 7th.

I said I wouldn’t post, but this actually exactly what I am talking about. You are supporting Israeli people and Israel’s right to exist. Guess what. So do I. I also support Palestinian people and Palestines right to exist. Most people I know IRL hold the same position. On MN, you cannot support a free Palestine without being against Israel. You have to explain this position over and over and over. I see posters do this over and over and over.
It’s not about people not agreeing with me. It’s the way the posts are written which give it away.
