Gaza Flotilla - genuine peace activists or Hamas puppets?

She is 22 years old. She is autistic. This is mumsnet. Many of us have daughters her age, perhaps autistic daughters. I’ve read enough gritty fights here between posters but that’s different.

Greta was filmed giggling and saying “fuck Germany … and fuck Israel” at a rally in December 2024.

I wouldn’t personally ever say “Fuck …” about a whole country full of individual people but that’s up to her.

She’s entitled to say that but if she can disrespect the whole of Israel and Germany, she has harsh opinions herself and is not afraid to voice them.

Is she peaceful? Her social media is awash with distasteful and incendiary comments about Jews that she does nothing to fix, calling for the destruction and mass deportations from the only Jewish country in the world. This is her ‘army’ and she’s happy to be at the helm.

Repeatedly personally attacking one member of the flotilla who is peaceful and well meaning, figurehead or not, is just nasty. If this was the aim of the thread, why not make it clear on the initial post?

She is the figurehead so will naturally attract the most attention as well as being used as a shorthand to describe the flotilla and people on it.

I think some are disappointed because she seemed principled as an environmentalist but now looks more like your generic self-important rabble-rouser.

I think you are getting a bit more aerated on her behalf than is really necessary, she is bound to attract criticism, much of which is perfectly justifiable although you may not agree with it.

If she didn’t want this to happen she maybe should’ve chosen an experienced and unknown aid worker, but nooooo. She has used her profile to do something silly, dangerous and that jeopardises the fragile peace talks that Gazans so desperately want to work.

The level of bile with which some posters on here attack Greta Thunberg is shocking. There are 500 members of the flotilla. This fixation on a young 22 year old autistic woman is really unhealthy and the name calling is the nastiest I’ve read on Mumsnet. Really horrible. Anyone would think she had committed a genocide.

Whose fault is it that Israel are giving guns, cars and aid to the militia? Not the starving people of Gaza that's for sure.

While Israel and their online defenders were screeching about aid been stolen by Hamas this militia that Israel have helped form were "the most influential stakeholders behind the systematic and massive looting of convoys". Then Israel stop all aid because apparently Hamas were stealing it all, Greta and Co set sail for Gaza and get hateful abuse from the very same Israel supporters that helped spin the lie that Hamas were stealing the aid and now this militia are living the life of luxury whilst people starve around them.

So to answer your question I would say it's Israel and their supporters fault. Together they've helped them steal aid, they spun and spread lies to stop aid from getting into Gaza to up the value of the aid and therefore the influence of this Israeli supported militia.

I have no issue with there being a regime change. There is lots of infighting in Gaza and dominant families as well as Hamas and Islamic Jihad. We have an overall simplistic view of ‘Hamas’ and what goes on.

I have seen the trucks go over the crossings. The drivers are terrified and if someone is pointing a gun at you do you ask what terror group they are from? Israel want Hamas out. I can see why they do things like that…. If it indeed happens.

Greta Thunberg is an indolent, spoiled narcissistic no account who has never been put in her place.
It takes a certain cluster B personality type to centre themselves in a fucking war, knowing that their actions are a project in futility in a war where the losing side cannot say that there is a lack of focused attention on their plight, even if the plights of all others in war that their side did not even start and are suffering far more and far longer than Gazans, go ignored.

Nope they did it as a PR exercise like a lot of other deceptive stuff they pull. There is literally video evidence of the baby formula - there is no reason for the activists to lie but lying seems to be second nature to the IDF.

Like when they attacked an operational hospital and to justify it they showed it was used to hide Hamas weapons - their video evidence showed them in an MRI machine - because, when thinking where should we hide explosive material encased in metal, a giant magnet is the logical choice. Or the secret Hamas documents in the doctor’s lounge which was the days of the week written in arabic.

Lets not forget when they showed video evidence of Hamas stealing aid and shooting at civilians but it turned out that it was actually a gang in the employ of Israel looting and shooting! They delete the video and went silent on the whole thing when caught in the lie but it continued to be shared by their armchair soldiers.

Or when they executed paramedics and buried their vehicles, lied about doing it, then said their lights weren’t on, then said they were Hamas and then went strangely silent when it turned out the whole thing was caught on camera. We still haven’t heard their justification on that one!

@Ellen2shoeslet’s say what you are saying is true. How exactly would a flotilla with some baby formula go to Gaza and then dish it out? To who? Without causing pandemonium and panic. Who would be deserving of that aid? Who do you say no to? What if one of the families or other groups in the area wanted it or them? They are high profile bargaining chips.

Greta is now refusing to deport while claiming she has to sit in the same position (in prison) whilst there are bugs (in a prison) I mean, seriously?

The surprising thing about Greta's incarceration is that she refused the quick deportation she got last time, according to the Israel Foreign Ministry

“Interestingly enough, Greta herself and other detainees refused to expedite their deportation and insisted on prolonging their stay in custody,” it writes.

“Greta also did not complain to the Israeli authorities about any of these ludicrous and baseless allegations — because they never occurred.”

I haven’t seen the story and seems ludicrously far fetched to me but it does sound like just the senseless sledgehammer/nut approach typical of Israel. Look at how many war ships it sent to steal baby formula from an utterly harmless peace flotilla.

Please tell me that you don't actually believe this bollocks story by CBS from unknown sources of a secret Israeli submarine travelling all the way from Israel to Tunisia to then launch two drones in order to drop an "incendiary device " on the bow of a yacht just to cause some small damage to some life jackets.
