Gaza Flotilla - genuine peace activists or Hamas puppets?

The armchair soldiers are out in force today! If you read any international newspapers, the Flotilla crew is comprised of politicians, lawyers, medics, journalists, humanitarians, poets, authors, environmentalists and so on. A highly educated bunch who spend their days working for a variety of causes a much better use of time than defending genocide online.

OK, you got me, you're right I'm way more concerned about lots of other aspects of this war, but this is a thread about Greta. You asked a question, I answered. I give a shit about the bombing, Gazans starving, the rise of antisemitism in the UK, the hostages trapped and in mortal danger in tunnels, the settlers and the religious nutjobs backing them, and the apparent lack still, after all these years, of any moderate, capable leadership for the Palestinian nation.

The Flutilla is a stupid little sideshow. I give a limited little tiny shit about some celebrities inserting themselves into this in the most futile manner. They are not helping anyone.

The Israeli administration are leaning in to this global isolation. Netanyahu has basically given the world the two fingers. I’d be more concerned about that if you care about Israel, not some idealists in wooden boats carrying flipping baby formula.

Also @Everexpanding she has literally done the same thing fairly recently and been deported, made constant comments about being followed ‘things are going to happen’ etc which have been found to be untrue eg Tunisia so I imagine Israel will do exactly what it did last time…. Sailing into a war zone in order to say something that can be said without sailing into a war zone. Sailing into a war zone knowing full well you expect to be saved from said war zone by the very people you profess to be protesting against.

Greta is fully expecting to be rescued from a very dangerous situation by Israel. And she's going to criticize Israel the whole way through, all the while depending on them.

All pieces of a puzzle that have contributed to and will continue to contribute to putting pressure on the US, the international community at large and Israel itself.

Alone each action is small but together they make a difference.

The flotilla want aid let into Gaza, they are unarmed and harmless. Why would you be against them.

Did you similarly dismiss the movement against Apartheid in South Africa? Did you tell each person that their actions were futile? Did you make jokes and laugh about them?

I was well aware long before the futilla! What an odd idea that noone had previously noticed.

What, other than talking about it? Writing about it? Protesting about it? Documentaries about it? Theres quite obviously many ways to draw attention to it. Did you know about it before this flutilla? I did. So did lots of other people commenting on it on here.

There's literally not one argument in favour of this flutilla that stands up to any critical thinking whatsoever.

All it is is another focus point for criticism of Israel, and a chance for those people on the boats to feel important.

Do you know what I think would be good to see? Greta and a load of her friends shouting from the rooftops for Hamas to surrender, no Palestine until Hamas is gone, free Gaza from Hamas, Hamas please fuck off forever etc. Anything like that.

Why dont we see that? Thats what would actually help Palestinian Gazans most of all isnt it?

What is hard to understand is why people think Greta and co doing this will make the smallest bit of difference. While Israel are worried about Hamas bringing weapons in by sea to kill their citizens, they will not stop the blockade.

I do think responsibility for the Gaza situation lies at more than one door though. And asking me to educate myself? Orthodox Jews will agree with you for very specific reasons. Religion based. No messiah no land of Israel. Completely alters ‘Israel’ and its purpose.

They should ensure that unrestricted food aid and medical supplies are allowed into Gaza.

This is a very reasonable request.

An old colleague of mine is on one of them actually. She’s definitely not a Hamas supporter. She has a background in humanitarian aid , as I do myself. Although I did my work safely from an office! She has often worked in dangerous conditions.

I don’t understand the venom here. It’s a non violent action calling for aid. Non violent movements for peace are very effective at creating positive change in our world.

@stomachamelonthe stampedes are because they are starving. They have been displaced sometimes 10-12 times, packing up their meagre belongings with nowhere to go. They are exhausted and starving, if they had adequate food then they wouldn’t stampede which is common sense. Civilians haven’t had meat in Gaza since February, people dying of starvation so how are they adequately fed, you are telling a pack of mistruths here, I support 1000’s of families and I’m in contact daily so I know the real truth.

you seem to forget that the people of Gaza and the West Bank have been mistreated for decades. Killed, controlled and you only have to look at the rise in Israeli settlements in the West Bank to see the truth, they didn’t play a part in 7/7 so why the treatment of them? They can’t even use buses or go to certain shops. They go through checkpoints that are one way and if they need to return they have to go miles to go back. There has been brutality and killing and segregation of the Palestinians for years by an evil twisted occupation. I would also like to add there are thousands of Palestinian hostages held and beaten and many die in captivity without charge including young children and we have all seen the proof of the rapes. Doctors and journalists have faired the worst, including a wonderful doctor very dear to me that was involved in humanitarian projects in Gaza, they bombed his house and killed not only him but his wife, 5 young children and his parents but you like many don’t see the Palestinians have equal people. Go and educate yourself including what they do to Christian’s. Watch Louis Theroux in the West Bank. Most orthodox Jewish people agree, hence why I have love and respect for them and their faith. it’s the Zionists that are the problem and the indoctrination of the Israelis to believe they are superior.
