Israel kills pregnant aid worker and two infant children in airstrike

A 27-YEAR-OLD aid worker and her two young children were killed by an Israeli strike last week.
Tasneem, a psychologist with Oxfam Ireland-linked aid organisation Juzoor, and her two children, five-year-old Sham and three-year-old Suleiman were killed when an Israeli airstrike struck an apartment building on Saturday.
Tasneem was pregant when the strike occurred. Her husband was critically injured following the airstrike and is currently in intensive care.
The couple had already lost their son, Muslam, in a previous attack last year.

Tasneem joined Juzoor in January 2025. According to humanitarian organisation CARE, she worked at a school shelter for displaced people in Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City, supporting children who lost their homes, and many of whom lost parents and friends or sustained life changing injuries.

Despite knowing the risks, Tasneem chose to remain in Gaza City to continue serving her community.

Oxfam Ireland CEO Jim Clarken described Tasneem as “a dedicated humanitarian, working under unimaginable conditions to support others”

“Words cannot express the depth of our sorrow and outrage at the deliberate killing of Tasneem, her two young children, and her unborn baby,” Clarken said.

Since October 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) has documented over 720 attacks on healthcare institutions in Gaza, with at least 1,580 health workers killed and as yet unknown numbers arrested and detained by Israel.

Cute maths.
Except 20,000 are children.

Approximately 70% of the fatalities in Gaza are women and children.

When it's a few children then maybe it could be attributed to an error? But when children have been disproportionately affected, it raises serious concerns.

In TWO YEARS, Palestinian children account for 30% of the death toll (so far). A rough comparison:
Syria 2011-23 5-6%
Yemen 2015-2023 10-15%
Iraq 2003-2011 9%

Why has baby formula been withheld from entering? Combined with statements from Israeli leaders and officials, a disturbing pattern emerges.

It's an urban war. Lots of civilian deaths. If you care so much why is all your ire meted out against Israel and not the group of people that started the war and won't end it?

Do you have a problem with Gaza's government using innocent civilians as human shields and their spokespeople going on TV and openly announcing it? You haven't said

Do any members of the Gazan government give any shits about Israelis?

Netanyahu is certainly using the hostages to his advantage.

You're right. That's why I blame the government they elected. The same government that planned this war, uses innocent civilians as human shields as a deliberate military strategy and won't bring the war to an end

Although I do also blame the Palestinian civilians who spent years spying on their Israeli employers, and the thousands of them who poured into Israel on October 7th, murdering, raping, mutilating and kidnapping. They also helped start this war

You mean the government they elected in 2006?

Most of the people alive in Gaza today weren’t even born in 2006, when Hamas was elected.

Using an election from 17 years ago to justify killing tens of thousands of civilians, including 20,000 children, is absurd

Israel's government places value on the lives of it's citizens. Gaza's government is happy to martyr all their citizens and their leaders openly say so on TV

Members of the Israeli. government give absolutely no shits about the Gazan and Palestinians and want them gone so they can have the land.

They openly say so on TV.

Imagine reading about a pregnant aid worker and her children being blown apart and thinking the clever response is ‘blame Hamas.’

Also imagine being so ignorant about the History of what happened to uninvolved Germans after World War 2:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05x30lb

"When the Second World War ended, the people of liberated Europe celebrated their freedom from Nazi tyranny. Their years of suffering had ended, but for millions of Germans, the end of the conflict opened a new and terrible chapter.

The Savage Peace reveals the appalling violence meted out to the defeated, especially to those ethnic Germans who had lived peacefully for centuries in neighbouring countries. Using rare and unseen archive film, the documentary tells a harrowing story of vengeance against German civilians, which mirrored some of the worst cruelty of the Nazi occupiers during the years of war. The Savage Peace includes the unique testimony of eyewitnesses and victims, who recall the horrors with searing clarity, their memories undimmed 70 years after the events took place. This a story that has, until now, been untold amidst the justified celebration of an end to an unspeakable tyranny. But as the writer George Orwell said, the treatment of the defeated Germans was a terrible crime that has gone unpunished"

BBC Two - 1945: The Savage Peace

Documentary on the treatment of Germans in former occupied countries after World War II.

66,054 casualties, including enemy combatants, out of a population of 2.1 million in a war that has spanned two years shows that you have no understanding of what indiscriminate actually means

You keep framing this as if the civilians being slaughtered are somehow responsible for Israel’s choices. Let’s be clear- deliberate mass civilian deaths are not collateral damage, they are a conscious strategy. Blaming the victims doesn’t make it lawful, moral, or defensible.

You are being a bit silly now. We are already seeing this scenario play out.

The horrors of 7/10 that impacted every Israeli made the suffering in Gaza now justifiable in the minds of many Israelis.

Nothing justified 7/10, nothing justifies this response.

I am showing it works both ways. MidnightScroller's argument was that any further violence from the aid worker's husband would be understandable, maybe even to be sympathised with. Well then, after the violence of October 7th maybe all this war is understandable and maybe even to by sympathised with.

Israelis are people too, just like Palestinians. I know that and October 7th are inconvenient facts for those who can't step outside of their Palestinians are powerless and innocent and Israelis are big, bad and evil mindset.

And what is this response? Getting rid of the terrorist organisation that planned and carried out October 7th and promised further massacres? I think that's pretty understandable and to be sympathised with. Because Israelis deserve to live in peace, safety and security. A pox on all Hamas' houses for bringing this down on their people so they can't have the same

Free the hostages.

It's far more comprehensive than just dropping leaflets. Actually go and research it

Ok, so don't displace people. Let them live in a war zone? Would that be better?

Honestly, it's laughable that some people expect there to be no civilian casualties in an urban war. Welcome to the real world. Again, the responsibility for this happening lays solely with Hamas. What did they, or anyone else, expect to happen after the October 7th massacre and promising to repeat it until Israel ceased to exist? It's become existential for Israel, they have a duty to protect their citizens from further massacres by a jihadist death cult.

No one is excusing the deaths of anyone apart from pro-Palestinians who blame October 7th on Gaza apparently being 'besieged', as if anything justifies such a massacre. If you think there's no justification for the war, despite there being threats of further massacres of Israelis, then there was certainly no justification for October 7th being committed by Palestinians. I say Palestinians because it wasn't just Hamas. They may have planned it and broken down the barrier at the border but it was ordinary Palestinians who had spied on their Israeli employers for years and fed back detailed information to Hamas, and thousands of Palestinian citizens poured into Israel behind Hamas on October 7th

Israel's government places value on the lives of it's citizens. Gaza's government is happy to martyr all their citizens and their leaders openly say so on TV

Targeting aid workers has no military advantage

They target aid workers most likely as part of a strategy that aims to distroy the society in Gaza. It all contributes to a breakdown of society.

It also makes it difficult for aid workers to operate. This means that more people die. Which again fits in with the goals here.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 26/09/2025 18:15

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 26/09/2025 18:02

Equating Hamas with the elected government of Palestinians is disingenuous at best. Gazans haven’t had a free election since 2006, and voting under blockade and occupation is hardly democratic consent. To compare them with a sovereign state like Nazi Germany is historically illiterate.

As for ‘no military advantage’ in targeting aid workers- exactly. Which is why the unprecedented slaughter of humanitarians documented by the UN, WHO and every major NGO cannot be brushed aside as random tragedy. A military advantage isn’t the only motive; intimidation and dismantling of civil society are also tactics of war.

The claim that ‘Israel warns civilians’ would be dark comedy if it weren’t so grotesque. Dropping leaflets telling families to flee when there’s nowhere safe to go, and then bombing the evacuation routes, is not ‘humanitarian concern ‘ it’s forced displacement in violation of international law.

And on hostages: yes, they must be freed. But to pretend 2 million civilians can be collectively starved, bombed, and displaced until one armed group capitulates is the logic of collective punishment- which is explicitly illegal under Article 33 of the Geneva Conventions. You don’t get to excuse the murder of 20,000 children by pointing to 100 hostages. That’s not international law. That’s moral bankruptcy dressed up as legal argument.

It's not the civilians that surrender, it's their elected government, Hamas. Just like the German government surrendered in the two WWs

Targeting aid workers has no military advantage

Israel does give advance warning, they're the only military power that does, it's on record

'Civilians are not bargaining chips' exactly, you're correct, so Hamas should free the hostages. And you're right, Palestinians are besieged, by Hamas who won't release the hostages and end the war

Although, talking of Germans, they knew when they were beat and surrendered, therefore avoiding unnecessary death and destruction. But they didn't have a death wish or a desire to martyr their entire society

Did they ? Hilter held on till the bitter end and then he committed suicide rather than surrender. Then there was the nero decree.

He was driven strongly by his ideologies not driven by a goal of protecting ordinary German civilians. We see this in so many wars. Both Hamas and the current Israeli government are driven by extremist ideology, neither put the long term safety and security of civilians first.

It’s horrifying. I can’t understand how anyone can support what Netanyahu is doing. October 7th was horrific and brutal and vile, but it does not justify this. That’s a misrepresentation of international law. Civilian sites don’t ‘lose protection’ on a whim- Article 52 of Additional Protocol I requires clear evidence, warnings, and strict proportionality.

Leveling entire hospitals or schools with no independent verification is not an ‘exception,’ it’s a textbook violation. The unprecedented number of aid workers killed (more than in any modern conflict) demonstrates a pattern, not accident. And the idea that a besieged, stateless population must simply ‘surrender’ ignores the most basic principle of international law: civilians are not bargaining chips. Framing genocide as ‘game over’ rhetoric doesn’t make it lawful.

Are you actually pretending a besieged, stateless population under occupation is the same as Nazi Germany?

We all know who the victims are- and it’s not the state carrying out one of the heaviest bombardments of a civilian population in modern history. Whole families erased, 20,000 children without mercy.

How has starting a war worked out for Hamas and the people they're supposed to be governing? They're not children, they can understand actions have consequences, or is this racism of low expectations on your part? Where's their accountability for starting a war and then failing to end it, deliberately increasing the bloodshed and needless deaths

Maybe if you actually care about Palestinians you can lay the blame for the war they're in with those that caused it. Hamas.

And they have a state now, maybe they can act like one

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 26/09/2025 17:48

PollyPaintsFlowers · 26/09/2025 17:41

Actually international law takes into account the reality of urban warfare and makes exceptions for civilian buildings if they are being used by the enemy. If, say, a hospital is being used by enemy forces it loses its protected status and it isn't a war crime to target it

Why would an aid worker be deliberately targeted? It doesn't make sense. It is a tragedy, but it's a war

More importantly, why haven't Hamas surrendered? What is there left to negotiate? Losers don't get to negotiate anything. They need to just surrender. Free the hostages and lay down arms. Game over.
