Hamas discussing US 'ideas' for Gaza ceasefire after Trump's 'last warning'

BBC article reporting that on Sunday evening, Hamas put out a statement saying it had "received through the mediators some ideas from the American side aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement" and that it welcomed the initiative.

"The movement is in constant contact with the intermediaries to develop these ideas into a comprehensive agreement that meets the needs of our people," it added.

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump had written on Truth Social: "Everyone wants the Hostages HOME. Everyone wants this War to end! The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well."

"I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!"

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the ceasefire efforts told the BBC that under the US proposal, all of the hostages would be released within the first 48 hours of a 60-day truce in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including those serving life sentences and other lengthy terms, and detainees from Gaza.

During the first two weeks of the truce, the negotiations would cover key issues, including Hamas's disarmament, the formation of an independent governing body or administrative committee in Gaza, and arrangements for Israeli troop withdrawals, the official said. Humanitarian aid would also flow openly into Gaza.

The framework appeared to be aimed at creating a pathway to a broader settlement while addressing immediate humanitarian and security concerns.

Israeli media quoted political sources as saying that Israel was "seriously considering" the US plan, but also that Hamas was likely to have difficulty accepting it.

On Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar told a news conference in Budapest: "President Trump said it clearly yesterday, Israel said yes to his proposal. We are ready to accept a full deal that would end the war based on the cabinet's decision.

"Two things must happen. One, the return of our hostages… [Two], Hamas must lay down its arms."

I hope you are right. I know you are wrong.

I hope I'm right and peace is chosen. I cannot imagine too many people want ongoing hatred and conflict.

Wrong? Didn't Germany and Japan choose peace. Those examples show peace can be achieved after a war. Not always, but sometimes.

Hopefully Israelies and Gazans will decide peace when Hamas are gone. Better for both.

I chose examples where lots of people were killed in conflicts that didn't go on to become terrorists to show its possible since lots of people say 'the children will become terrorists'. That was the reasoning, its not always a bad ending and some chose peace and prosperity. The son of a Hamas leader is one of Hamas greatest critics. We need more like him, turning their backs on hatred and terrorism.

Disingenuous at its best. The world has never forgiven the US for testing its bombs on real people. Japan was a feudal society already crushed - the bombs hastened the end, but it would have come within months anyway.

Funny though that you chose WW2 and Germany. The seeds of WW2 were the crushing defeat of WW1. It generated another war!

I note you conveniently ignored Ireland as a comparison despite that being the one I raised. And far more comparable. The roots of this conflict (also majorly caused by the British government) is not a war in the sense of world wars. It is an attrition. If Israel want hundreds of years of war, as the British had in Ireland, then they are going about it in the right way. Try to destroy a people and you will lose. FGS the Jewish people know that as well!

I an proud to have close Israeli friends. This is so not in their name. They sent their two children to the UK to avoid being called up again despite them serving in the first one. What Hamas did on 7th October was a crime. Taking and holding the hostages was a crime. A proportionate response was understandable if not "a finest hour". This is not a proportionate response. It is mass murder. As was the dropping of nuclear weapons on CIVILIANS!

I don't expect to convince you. Polarised politics are comfortable. But until we can see BOTH sides we will never move forward. Ireland is still a complex issue. But it moved forwards because people decided that talk was better than bombs.

Hopefully Israelies and Gazans will decide peace when Hamas are gone. Better for both.

The Japanese were defeated by to use your words 'mass murder' when 2 atomic bombs were dropped. That never generated terrorists, yet they lost so much. They CHOSE peace and prosperity and achieved both.

Germany lost an estimated 6.6 to 8.8 million people in WW2. They also CHOSE peace and prosperity and achieved it. Again it didn't generate terrorists.

Why do people assume Palestinian people can only choose terrorism as its response. Why do people expect less of them and their future choices than the Japanese or the Germans? They could choose peace and prosperity. A better future for all, rather than endless hatred.

Absolutely he did, the Israeli jets would need to be refuelled to reach Qatar.

In previous Israeli air attacks (Iran, Yemen) America and the UK have assisted with this.

As terrible as Netanyahu is, he is not stupid, he will ensure to entangle his allies as leverage, so if goes down they all go down.

The "nerds" that track air traffic noted increased activity before and after the strike.

Just as a point of order on those flightradar screen snapshots - we have no idea what the KC-46 was refuelling and the RAF Voyager certainly wasn't refuelling Israeli assets.

There are on-going operations in that part of the world anyway and if the UK/USA had notice of whatever Israel was up to a decision might have been made to get aircraft airborne, out of harms way...

@TreesTreesBeesBees ’Its a violation of the sovereignty of another country.’

Not If that sovereign country knew about it.
The people killed were terrorists, the Qataris will make all the right noises while being complicit in this act of retribution.

Thanks for clarification. Maybe the Qatar government were aware?

Harbouring terrorists might put anyone at risk.

I’m interested to hear whether Trump did actually okay it. It seems odd when he’s desperate to end the war and claim all the glory.

Its a violation of the sovereignty of another country. Apparently Trump knew it would occur, according to the news tonight. Hamas leader targeted by precision strike. Trump issued a final warning to Hamas yesterday

TBH it is also difficult to think he cares about "ending Hamas" either. I absolutely do not support Hamas in any shape or form - and not do I support the Israeli government in their actions. But this I know. You never defeat anyone with mass murder. You do not build peace, tolerance or mutual understanding by annihilation. Either Netanyahu is an idiot (and much as I despise him, I don't think he is) or he is deliberately taking a line of action that will ensure Hamas' continuation for generations into the future.

And if any government in the world should know that in its bones, that is the government of the "United Kingdom". One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, and whatever name they go under in the future, there are children in Gaza and the occupied territories who have been handed a reason to hate and a cause to fight for.

And, terrifying though the prospect is, that assumes that Israel survives the war it appears to be intent on trying to start with its Arab neighbours. Israel is doing more than any Arab nation to bring common cause to Arab states that have never seen eye to eye on very much.

Qatar have said a member of it's security forces have been killed.

That’s very sad to hear. I fear for what happens next.

I don't think you understand the level of hate that's already in existence.

I do, hence why piling on more hate is an odd tactic. Doing the same and expecting different results is the opposite of clever.

Saudi television network Al-Arabiya reported that Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya was eliminated in an attack in Doha. According to Palestinians, Khaled Mashal, Muhammad Darwish, Razi Hamad and Izzat al-Rishq were also present at the location.

The Israelis have not ‘bombed Doha’. They have bombed a very specific location in Doha where the Hamas terrorists were having a meeting.
Why weren’t they in Gaza with their people?

They bombed Doha with the aim of killing Hamas members. What if any Qatari citizens were killed? Qatar certainly didn’t agree to the strike - they were facilitating ceasefire talks. It’s an escalation and I fear for Israeli citizens who didn’t ask for this but may pay for it.

I saw it was khalil Al Hayya's son. 5 people killed but none of them the leaders that were targeted. I think its too early to know for sure.

...And meanwhile Mumsnet is apparently being treated to a glitzy reception in Downing Street shortly.. in the same week and in the same building where Starmer is set to be entertaining Israel's genocide-supporting president. I hope some of you at the Mumsnet 'do' take it upon yourselves to challenge any ministers present about the way Israel - aided and abetted by the UK - deliberately targets and kills Palestinian children. I doubt the equivalent of Mumsnet in Gaza are discussing breastfeeding tips and schools at the moment.

Absolutely, as confirmed by former Biden Spox Matthew Miller:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/biden-official-netanyahu-sabotaged-deals-but-calling-him-out-wouldve-helped-hamas/

All done with the full acquiescence, assistance and knowledge of "Daddy" Trump. Remember bombing Iran during Nuclear negotiations in June this year. Both are clearly sending out a message that negotiation is futile and useless.

I hope Americans understand that Trump's actions are putting them at risk and he is singlehandedly destroying their futures.

It's Netanyahu's signature act. Whenever there is a possibility of a ceasefire, he does whatever he can to sabotage it.

I agree that the latest move today in Doha seems to be very provocative. I was stunned to see it on the news. How that is protecting the hostages or the people of Israel is beyond me. It’s one thing to strike Hamas in Gaza but to fire at Qatar - bonkers.

And it is so frustrating that people keep saying that BN is just trying to wipe out Hamas. They’re a terrorist organisation - they don’t have borders. They will sadly have members in multiple countries across the world. Flattening Gaza only strengthens their resolve to destroy Israel. In that sense, Israel can’t win because they will sadly always face this threat. But they are not helping to stop the cycle of radicalisation in Gaza by destroying families/homes etc

The usual caveat - I don’t support anything Hamas does or believes. What they did on 7/10 was horrific. But I do agree that the violence and hatred both Hamas have shown and Israel have shown in this conflict is not going to somehow create peace. BN is not only hurting innocent Palestinians but putting innocent Israelis at risk of more terror in the coming years.

Dangermoos · 09/09/2025 17:29

I’m confused: they are flattening Gaza - just not with nukes.

How is he protecting Israel by bombing Doha? Or decreasing the risk of further terrorist attacks by dehumanising the people in Gaza and making recruiting for Hamas easy?

BN couldn’t win because he’s beholden to right wing extremists in his government. They are leading with hate and that can only create more hate.

I don't think you understand the level of hate that's already in existence.

That's how it's all being played out, as far as pro Pals are concerned. There is a flip side to that coin. Israel would never have had the support if they had flattened and annihilated Gaza, anyway. It's been a no win situation for Netanyahu. I presume that's why he's proceeded as he has. At best, he's protecting his state. At worst he's prolonging the hostages' plight.

Genocide doesn’t have to happen in a day. In fact, it would be stupid to do it that way because you’d lose all respect on the international stage. Pretty sure with would tank you economy and destroy your reputation. If you’re smart, you quickly tone down the genocidal rhetoric (esp after a genocide case is brought against you) and you do just enough to make intent a challenge to prove. You still starve people, militarise aid, wipe out most of the infrastructure in Gaza so people have no homes/hospitals/safety. It’s not nuking Gaza as one Israeli politician suggested but it isn’t showing any humanity to innocent people. Hence why the ICJ spelled out that Israel need to feed Gazans and do more to ensure their safety.

And even if this isn’t found to be genocide legally, is what’s going on okay in your eyes? If the use of the word genocide upsets you, fine. But it shouldn’t upset you more than what’s happening in Gaza. Would ethnic cleansing be a less triggering word? Or crimes against humanity? Or war crimes?
