Greta isn't breaking any laws. Aid must be let through if there is a shortage in the blackaded territory. The blockade has been in place for decades hence the fact that flotillas have been risking their lives and sometimes been killed for trying to break the siege for decades, this isn't a wartime action on Israels behalf this is a longtime policy.

That people are more appalled by a flotilla attempting to reach a territory that has seen children die of malnutrion than they are by the army enforcing starvation on the territory speaks volumes. No calls for Netanyahu to be 'locked up indefinitely' from those posters, just the people trying to break the siege. But sure we believe you when you say that 'nobody wants to see Palestinians suffer'.

I used to wonder why Israel had blockades. Now, I really, REALLY understand it 😬

I would imagine part of the reason Isreal is trying to stop.them is they don't want them being taken hostage by Hamas and then they have to risk Israeli loves retrieving them

Yes that's one scenario that would make things worse. There are plenty of others.

No. What we are pointing out is the futility of the flotilla. That it wont be making any meaningful contribution to alleviate the shortage of aid and that it could actually make the situation worse by diverting resources to managing them. Anyone cares about aid to palestinians would want an effective solution not applauding this self indulgent grandstanding. I don't think anyone is particularly appalled by it. I'd describe my emotion more as despair that people put so much effort into something so pointless and people dont have the critical skills to see it.

It’s not going to make the situation worse. No Israeli navy resources are being used in the humanitarian aid process. Hamas has no navy. They don’t even have fishing boats or rubber dinghies.

The flotilla is utterly futile to deliver humanitarian aid but it is a direct action protest highlighting the fact there is no longer a security or military need for a sea blockade for Israel to win the war.

That humanitarian aid could be brought by sea in large numbers- the concept was proven by the US pier.

Given that the roads are impassable rubble, and airdrops are dangerously chaotic, I think it is past time to reconsider flooding Gaza with aid by land and sea. Of course, all this done by actual humanitarian organisations. Not GHF.

I think they should let them land in Gaza - then sink the boats

Israel will be criticised whatever happens. That's the point of the stunt. Just as with PA supporters, if you do the crime you do the time and to bleat about the consequences of your actions is pathetic. Best ignored but I don't suppose there's any chance of that!

Sorry but what crime are they committing other than illegal entry into Israeli occupied waters? For which the penalty is deportation not prison or a fine.

That is if the occupation were legal, but it has been ruled illegal by the ICJ. So really they are trying to break through the sea blockade of an illegal occupier of Palestinian waters.

Legally, it’s a bit like how the US ran ships with food aid to the UK past the blockade of U boats in the English Channel.

Israel is at war and has a naval blockade in place for its own safety. By disregarding this (and refusing to watch the film, last time), Greta has made it clear she doesn't give a shit about Israel. What she is "delivering" is going to make no difference at all, but places Israel in the position of having to ensure her safety in a war zone. Whatever happens will be exploited as propaganda by Hamas. The sad thing about all this is that she probably thinks she is acting against fascism, when the reverse is true. I hope one day she will understand her own blind arrogance, but somehow I doubt it.

Oh please what? We keep being told on here that they should be locked up, that they are committing an offence, that they should be trapped in Gaza. For what? Not a single person has come up an actual offence that these people who are attempting to break the siege are committing.

All of this hate and aggression towards people who are attempting to break a siege that has seen children die from malnutrion and 1000s more suffering.

They would be trapping themselves in Gaza - taking a vessel to Gaza which is run by a terrorist organisation in the middle of a high intensity war with no means of refuelling or provisioning the vessel for the return journey in Autumn is dipstick stupidity of the highest order. All in order to deliver minuscule amounts of aid. I mean what could possibly go wrong?

Still I'm sure they will generate some great social media self publicity.

quantumbutterfly · 08/09/2025 17:38

She's following a grand tradition of clueless westerners going out to join islamic extremists if the news from daesh was anything to go by.

Usually they do it a bit more surreptitiously, it's almost as if they want to be stopped. Surely not. I'm with pp's who say call their bluff.

1dayatatime · 08/09/2025 17:35

Looking at the maths of this:

There are 350 people travelling to Gaza on 20 vessels or an average of 17 people per vessel. From Barcelona it will take them two to three weeks sailing/ motoring.

To feed and water 17 people every day for 2 to 3 weeks means that there is simply no room to transport aid to Gaza. They would be lucky if they can deliver a pot noodle each.

Plus of course there is the journey back, they won't get any supplies or fuel from Hamas (assuming they are allowed to leave). So I guess they will have to go nicely to the Israelis to see if they can help them out.

Its all Tik Tok driven virtue signalling with stuff all thought on the practicalities.

All irrelevant to my point. The 'aid' they are bringing is in such small quantities as to be insignificant and without a distribution system is irrelevant. Anyone who works in emergency or development aid will tell you.

I don't really understand this. Why do you think Israel should be able to decide that they can't leave? Genuinely what is your thought process with this, that you think trapping people who are trying to deliver aid in a war zone would be a good thing?

I really don't understand why people trying to deliver aid are receiving such ire. Some of you think that they are breaking the law and should be put in prison 'indefinitely' others saying trap them in a war zone because they want to deliver nappies and formula to children like this?!

Well firstly after being deported from Israel she can't then decide to enter Israel in order to catch a flight out.

Secondly I doubt that there will be any fuel available in Gaza to refuel / provision their sailing boats. And trying to get back to Barcelona on sail alone in Autumn is a recipe for disaster.

Of course they could take a stroll down to Rafah and ask the Egyptians nicely if they would let through but based on the last protest March going across Sinai and trying to cross the border into Gaza, that's probably not a good idea either.

That said I'm sure that Hamas would make good use of them as human shields

Hating Greta good, loving a murderous regime good. Ok then

Are you comparing the two? I can't stand the woman but I wouldn't go that far.

The same one she was removed for last time? And others on her previous flotilla.

She will be sent straight home again this time I expect though a short stay in prison might teach her to stop wasting the IDFs time & resources at a time when they are trying to fight a war not have to put up with her performative antics.

The others on her previous flotilla who refused to leave has to go to court didn’t they, to be forced to leave which they eventually did.

I hope she does waste those murdering rapist’s time! Honestly who cares about the IDF’s time when they spend it bombing people! They are just as bad as Hamas.

The IDF are the good guys in this are they. . Oh right then😳

People trying to save lives are bad. And should be in jail.

No talking to people in the upside down

And what was that offence?

Legally if the blockade territory is not adequately supplied with food and/or other essentials then medical supplies and humanitarian aid must also be permitted to pass through the blockade. See the San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea, paras. 103-104. I think we can all agree that Gaza is not supplied with all of the essentials.

All of the people on the ship are entitled to protection under the Geneva Conventions and must be treated in accordance with those conventions as well as international human rights law.

You and the Israeli government may not like that they are bringing much needed aid to Gaza but it isn't an offence.

Oh please. What is their distribution system for this aid?
