Good news. Political pressure, protests and letters beginning to work

Unlike some people here, evidently, I have a job and have been busy doing that today. I do have some more links which are interesting and happy to provide tbem for people interested in good faith. Please pm me. I wont be posting for tbe benefit of someone who is rude and offensive and clearly hasnt read the links I have already posted.

Note to self be more polite to those who wish to deflect criticism of current Israeli govternment actions ( a genocide ) with false claims of antisemitism against an entire country for which they then provide no proof

Bullshit also @DenizenOfAisleOfShame

conflating anti zionism with antisemitism does a great disservice to all the brave and compassionate Jews who are speakimg out against the actions of Bibi Netanyahu and Israel’s current government

Antizionism is nearly always antisemitic as it simply means believing in a Jewish homeland in Israel. The vast majority of Jews in Israel and elsewhere are zionists. Of course many are opposed to Netanyahu, this is very well known to anyone with a passing knowledge of Israeli politics. It doesn't make them antizionist.

You are welcome. I am actually doing projects on Mary with my class this term, she only died in 2002 and is an absolutely fascinating woman.

I came across her only recently, I think when looking at the Jewish museum website?

Ireland has constantly been a support for Palestinians. So much so the last Kuffiya factory in Palestine made one called Saoirse "freedom".
https://www.kufiya.org/search?q=Saoirse

I purchased 1 for everyone of my family members different colours and designs.

Search: 2 results found for "Saoirse"

The Official Hirbawi Kufiya Shop. Buy the Original Palestinian Keffiyeh and more products from Palestine directly from Hirbawi, the last remaining kufiya factory in Palestine.

Oh dear, what a racist car crash this thread is.

For those at the back who can’t quite see the poster: antisemitism is racism.

In fact it’s the most enduring and pernicious form of racism there is. That’s in smaller letters on the class poster, so you’ll need to get up off the mat and come and have a closer look.

Everexpanding · 15/09/2025 17:29

“Yes, a lot of criticism of Israel by both ordinary Irish people and senior politicians and as evidenced in government policy is motivated by antisemitism.” This is what you stated @SharonEllis , numerous posters have asked you to provide evidence, you have provided none, I maintain my initial assessment which was bullshit, worse actually unsubstantiated bullshit being used to try and undermine valid criticism of the Israeli state and it’s genocidal actions.i can provide you many examples of Israeli politicians displaying horrific anti Muslim sentiment. You can furnish no examples of current day Irish politicians being anti semitic, let alone enacting anti semitic policies.

You have provided exactly zero evidence to back your claim

You you demand mountains of evidence in response to any claims that racism exists?

Make up your mind. We are being badgered to provide more and more evidence, but now accused of derailing?

All of this was in response to someone saying it was bullshit thst there was a history of antisemitism in Ireland (and consistently beimg pretty rude). All that was needed was to acknowledge that yes of course there was a history of antisemitism in Ireland and there would have been no argument

Their point is to derail the thread.

Ireland is being targeted because it's government had the temerity to actually represent the will of the people who voted for them and had the cheek to recognise a Palestinian state.

Remember in history there have been lots of dubious/questionable actions. For example German Zionists collaborated with the Nazis between 1933 and 1939 to facilitate the transfer of Jewish Germans to Palestine.

This Irishman was also resposible for saving over 6,500 Jews, American and British Soldiers escape from the Germans and his activities earned him the nickname “Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican” as he became the master of disguises, evading capture from the Germans when he had to leave the security of the Vatican to go on his rescue missions.

Hyde and DeValera were totally wrong to send condolences on Hitlers death. DeValera's personality was definitely his undoing here and his unwillingness to see the bigger picture here and his desire to make a point to the American ambassador were definitely a factor. He wouldn't be a popular figure around where I live!

Although neutral Ireland was at times struck, I only learned recently the Synagogue in Dublin was the only one the Germans paid reperations for (and I can only imagine how many they destroyed).

While there was undoubtedly anti semitism in Ireland at this time there were some figures who helped Jewish people such as Hubert Butler and Mary Elmes (Cork woman)who was arrested by the Gestapo for saving at least 200 Jewish children bound for Auschwitz.

Clonyn Castle in Westmeath hosted 100 Jewish children for rehabilitation just after the war. Initially the Dept said no but the Chief Rabbi appealed to his friend DeValera (the irony) who approved the request.

Thank you, very interesting.

Churchill and Hitler are obviously not equivalent whether Ireland was neutral or not. More on this in Montefiore's piece above which you perhaps didn't read.

Israel is being rightly in my opinion being crticised for being directly responsible for the deaths of 20,000++++++ children. If you feel Israel deserves no criticism for this it says more about you,

Ninety years ago a negotiated 'transfer' led more than 50,000 German Jews to Palestine

COLUMN. The August 1933 agreement between the Jewish Agency and the Nazi regime enabled some 53,000 Jews to emigrate from Germany to Palestine over the following six years.

So the only evidence that you can try to use to support your claim that Ireland is anti semetic are incidents from 79 years ago and 121 years ago respectively. You have stated repeatedly on this thread that the policies of the Irish government are anti semetic but have, despite requests provided no proof just baseless slander

But apparently Israel, as a state, is appalling. Even though it was established more recently than the Irish state’s sympathetic message on the passing of Herr Hitler.

And you can say what you like - however nasty - about Israel, and its roots, the Jewish desire for a homeland, and its principal inhabitants, Jews.

🙄

So evidence from 1945? You know Ireland maintained neutrality so would have also sent condolences on Winston Churchill’s death. Any current policy?

More context from 1945

This controversial act, one of the most controversial things de Valera ever did, has been regularly resurrected in the decades since, with some using it to suggest that he was pro-Nazi.
In fact, he was anything but and the story is a bit more complicated than some would have you believe, though you would be hard put to find anyone, then or since, who thought de Valera’s condolences were a good idea.
Context of course is key. Ireland was neutral in World War II (or, as it was termed here, 'the Emergency’), and although favourably disposed to the Allies and giving them considerable assistance behind the scenes, de Valera insisted on strict adherence to the formalities of neutrality.

I wouldn’t want to be deleted again, by criticising the Irish state - because, let’s face it, criticism of the government of Ireland is just not on.

But history’s always interesting, particularly history within living memory. So how’s this for the Irish state’s reputation:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/dec/31/secondworldwar.ireland

Well, if you can’t send sympathy for Hitler’s death, whose death can you sympathise with? 🙄

President sent sympathy on Hitler's death

Douglas Hyde, Ireland's president during the second world war, offered condolences to Germany's representative in Dublin over the death of Adolf Hitler, newly declassified records show.
