Israel committing genocide in Gaza, world’s top scholars on the crime say

An overwhelming majority of members of the world’s leading genocide scholars’ association have backed a resolution stating that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of the crime.
Eighty-six per cent of those who voted in the 500-member International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) supported the motion. The resolution states that “Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide in article II of the United Nations convention for the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide (1948).”

I'm not taking the word of Hamas.

Ive covered why I believe Israel has no credibility in posts earlier in this thread, providing a number of proven lies.

I believe the evidence shows there is famine and indiscriminate bombing and targeting of civilians. I believe the UN and humanitarian agencies.

I think that there’s an issue with any anti-Israel info (from charities or medics who have seen things first hand) being immediately deemed Hamas propaganda. Sources that are believed in other areas (eg confirming famine in Sudan) are suddenly not to be trusted when they do the same in Gaza. I think it’s important to remember that one can be anti-Israel (extremism, policies and rhetoric) without being either a terrorist or someone desperate to bring down the state of Israel. A lot of charities with long standing relationships with Palestinians are anti Israel because they have seen the impact Israel has had on the Palestinians long before the war (not relations with Hamas - everyday Palestinians. Let’s all keep the difference in mind).

Similarly, in what world would a medic working there for and seeing the reality of the situation not condemn Israel’s actions when they’re seeing the horrific results of it. Being pro-Palestinian simply means thinking about the people stuck between Hamas and Israel. I’ve said it before but I find it bizarre that the narrative is either you’re pro Israel or pro Palestinians. You should be able to be both but one side is making that very hard.

Why do you think there is significantly more evidence and credibility against Israel than on Israels side?

In a conflict like this I'd expect lies and propaganda from both sides.

But to take the word of Hamas over Israel seems odd? In what way are Pro Palestinian voices more to be trusted than Pro Israel voices?

I'll read it later. What did he lie about?

Of course there will be smear campaigns against people that are exposing the truth and no-one is infallible.

I do think propaganda will likely exist on both sides, I just happen to believe that there is significantly more evidence and credibility against Israel than on Israel's side.

No evidence for these claims as usual.

The propaganda is ramping up now because of Israel’s operations in Gaza City and Hamas’ forthcoming defeat.

I wish too that young boy could be like other children in the world, studying and having a childhood.

Sadly his elders elected and supported an evil terrorist government and this is the result.

The videos shown are not evidence? You think Hamas are just murdering children in Israeli declared safe zones and everyone there is letting them and just blaming Israel when it is actually Hamas?

There is evidence of drone strikes on children on video.

You don't believe the multiple clear evidence in the case of Hind Rajab so I doubt unless you actually saw it with your own eyes that you would ever believe it - luckily most people are not so blinkered.

Double down news, Novara media, the intercept, the greyzone, Katie Halper show, Declassified UK, Owen Jones also all good sources of information.

It’s not difficult to find on news outside the western media. You can fact check. Try Al Jazeera’s piece on Israeli testing weapons in Palestinian laboratory, available on YouTube for example. There have been several pieces on this from various sources. I used to be a huge fan of the bbc but now follow other media as bbc does not report on any of this.

Also look at reports from the Pulitzer Centre, Middle East Monitor, SETA, Anadolu Ajansi, Zeteo news. Anything that is not mainstream. The latest incendiary weapon report has just been released by Palestine network. Obviously, in the absence of Western journalists on the ground (why I wonder?), the incredible Palestinian journalists who are being systematically targeted and murdered by Israel btw, are the first and only ones to get this out to the global press.

Goodness me, and some people are lambasted on this board for using bias sources!

Al Jazeera (funded by Qatar), Zeteo News ( Medhi Hassan), Anadolu Ajansi (Turkish state run media), Middle East Monitor (Qatar), SETA (Turkey), Pulitzer Centre (Lefties).

Maybe you should expand your reading resources.

Do you read any Israeli sources for balance?

As for Palestinian journalists, do you the think the ones who are not Hamas mouthpieces, can be unbias?

I haven't got 1h to watch an al jazeera documentary. Im really interested in your source for this;

Now as we speak it is sending remote controlled armed vehicles filled with explosives into refugee camps in Gaza - attacking people they have already displaced and starved.

Whats your source for this assertion?

Yes I would be very interested in that. As it is 'now as we speak' presumably these is a live link of some sort.

The threat to Israel??? Israel is out of control, attacking every surrounding country. Now as we speak it is sending remote controlled armed vehicles filled with explosives into refugee camps in Gaza - attacking people they have already displaced and starved. Read that again. It is beyond horror. This military hardware will then be paraded at arms fares as battle proven and real life tested. In their laboratory of Gaza. It is an unimaginably grotesque situation.
The western media show none of this (why I wonder ) but look outside of this sphere into global media and the truth is there for us all to see. And we do see it. And once we see, we can never unsee.

Israel’s actions are an abomination and indefensible and no amount of pontificating hides this truth from the world. Whether we are genocide scholars, doctors, shop workers or dock workers, we see it. Every day.

This sounds awful. Whats your source?

I think it should be quite simple to not teach Palestinian children to want to kill Jews or that becoming a martyr by killing them is better than living tbh. I’m not sure why Israel is needed to collaborate in that as I understood the level of education among Palestinians is extremely high.

I personally hope Bibi stays in power for another term at least.

The moderates in Israel have tried to appease terrorists whose only interest is in killing them not peace, for far too long.

Israel needs a strong leader reinforcing peace through strength to crush the Iranian terror axis so the threat to Israel is gone once and for all.

A ‘moderate’ wouldn’t have the balls.

The new government of Gaza certainly won’t be Palestinian. Did you not see what happened the last time they elected a new government?

They need to show they want to live peacefully alongside Israel first.

Israel doesn’t need to be steered in the right direction. Their response to Palestinian terrorism wouldn’t happen if there was none.

I’m not sure why Israel is needed to collaborate
Because it’s modelling good relations and trust and enables them to help protect their citizens through education. It’s really not complicated.

I personally hope Bibi stays in power for another term at least. Alongside his right wing extremists?

The moderates in Israel have tried to appease terrorists whose only interest is in killing them not peace, for far too long. Wait, I’m confused. I thought you wanted BN to stay? Now you’re saying he’s part of the problem?! He helped Hamas out for years. So are we team BN or not?

Israel needs a strong leader reinforcing peace through strength to crush the Iranian terror axis so the threat to Israel is gone once and for all.
How did that ‘peace through crushing the other side’ go in the war on terror? Afghanistan is a success story, right? Zero terrorists there. And ISIS popped out nowhere…. It’s like violence leads to more extremism.

The new government of Gaza certainly won’t be Palestinian. Did you not see what happened the last time they elected a new government?
In 2006? So we’re aiming for a more prescriptive future by focusing on two decades ago. And no discussion why Hamas won either, I see. Pointless trying to analyse why extremism took hold in Gaza, right? So should Israel be in charge then? That’s definitely going to reduce the chance of terrorism.

They need to show they want to live peacefully alongside Israel?
After what they’ve been through? You don’t think some might want to retaliate like Israel did after 7/10? They’re expected to just accept the loss of their children or parents, their homes and communities? Just accept the rhetoric Israeli politicians have used about them and feel warm and fuzzy about Israel suddenly? Accept that their child or sibling or partner who died of starvation wasn’t actually starving? Do you know anything about psychology or radicalism? Speaking of which, are Israel going to show willingness to live peacefully too? Banning settlers might be a solid start.

Israel doesn’t need to be steered in the right direction. So the violence and extremism will continue. Are you in the arms business by any chance?

So I think it is predominantly the new government in Gaza who should lead on the education reform BUT collaborating with Israel which is in Israel’s best interests. Obviously this would need new leadership on both sides too - more moderate and willing to have close ties so there isn’t an us/them narrative. This is all wishful thinking obviously because I am very worried that a new government won’t be Palestinian and the violence is going to be going on for a long time BUT if Palestinians and Israeli children were taught respect and equality towards one another and the extremists content was banned or, perhaps at the right age, detailed and condemned in the right way, it could help steer both countries in the right direction.

If people who hate the cruelty that Israel are meting out are on another planet, then it must be a very crowded one. Israel is a small country. Practically nobody is on your side any more, really.

What has the cruelty Israel Israel are meting out got to do with the deaths of the Bibas children?

Do you believe one caused the other? Are they in some way linked?

As are those coming up with unevidenced "theories" to provide cover for the IDF.

Just to clarify, you believe people who haven’t fallen for Hamas propaganda are ‘psychotic demons’. ‘Evil’. ‘Pure evil’.

How very offensive and extreme, and probably the worst way to describe anybody.

What would you describe Hamas as?

Disbelievers are worse than them?

The IDF are worse than them?

I agree with much of your post. Agreed that the deradicalisation of Palestinians is essential. I just wonder how you get there though. First of all why is it Israel's responsibility to deradicalise Palestinians, but more importantly what is the mechanism for it to happen. Surely they would just be accused of variations on 'imperialism'? As you say a new regime in Gaza is essential and that is what everyone from the powers in the region, the international community to the banner wavers. How different things might have been if 'Free Gaza from Hamas' had ignited people's imaginations.

So I think it is predominantly the new government in Gaza who should lead on the education reform BUT collaborating with Israel which is in Israel’s best interests.
