Conflict in the Middle East

Gazan GHF workers left to die at hospital where Doctors Without Borders is.

As stated by GHF spokesman Chapin Fay in the below interview with Channel 4 new presenter Krishnan Guru Murthy.

At 7.30 minutes in the video, Mr Fay stated 9 local workers were murdered and the 20 injured were refused treatment at Nasser hospital, where Doctors Without Borders were, and left to die in the courtyard.

These were Palestinians!

Why was there no outcry about this? It seems that they were refused treatment because they were working for GHF. That is shocking.

It was interesting that Mr Fay said GHF is funded by the US as well as several donor countries from Europe who don’t wish to be named.

The whole interview was an absolute car crash and the presenter was totally unprofessional and disgustingly rude IMO, sitting in a comfy newsroom while firing allegations at an organisation who’s workers are at massive risk, getting death threats, and are actually being killed for trying to get free (as it should be) aid to Palestinians and from the response from a lot them at the sites, they are needed.

I think it’s pretty obvious why there has been conflict outside of the aid centres TBH.

I commend Mr Fay on his patience I have to say.

A disgusting smear attempt from Channel 4.

I wonder if Guru Murthy will take up the offer to go into Gaza himself.

It won’t make me feel better if the smallest sibling looks shocking within months. I’m not enjoying there being a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, I just want it to be reported factually. More aid is getting into Gaza now so I sincerely hope that what you predict won’t happen.

Though it has been raised many times, maybe you need reminding that Hamas could end this war too - by agreeing to disarm, release all the hostages and leave Gaza.

I agree the siblings could be malnourished. However they look nothing like their sister so it’s disingenuous to pretend it is merely lack of access to food that is causing her issues.

Every time you have seen a food crisis play out on your screen, the first images of children who are dying, all are most likely to those who were more vulnerable for some reason. You have just never questioned it before.

I’m not sure why it’s so important for some of you to try and prove that Israel is “only” starving children with medical conditions to death.

They don’t look wasted yet no. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t starving. They don’t look healthy. They are probably malnourished. Their images are not shocking in the same way. If it makes you feel any better - the smallest will look shocking too within months.

I’m not sure what point is being made about the other children not looking like they are as thin as their sister.

There are multiple reasons to suggest that food is in short supply.

There was an editorial about this in Haaretz:

“The plot goes like this: The whole world published a photo of a child who looked like he was starving, in order to blame Israel. But, Israelis across the spectrum insisted, was a lie: the child has a pre-existing genetic condition that explains his appearance. Ergo: There is no starvation in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself said so (though his biggest supporter, Donald Trump, did not agree).”

“One type of lie tries to deflect, accuses the enemy of fabrication, and ignores all other evidence. The fact is that a child can both have a genetic disease and be starving.”

”The second reason to expose the lies Israel is drowning in is this: anyone who believes them must internalize that they may as well be living on another planet.”

How is it possible to flood Gaza with aid when the UN haven’t been able to distribute the aid piling up inside Gaza?

Do you agree with more air drops or were you against that as well?

The UN also need to be facilitated in distributing aid. This could be anything from being allowed to have the equipment to remove explosives from their path - to more aid corridors to allow them to travel with more safety.

I’m not “against” Aid drops. They are just very ineffective. It costs a lot to deliver small quantities of aid. Sometimes during aid drops they have staff on the ground to coordinate the delivery of aid. The way these aid drops are done means that the strongest, fittest and presumably those with arms get the most aid.

The dramatic thing that should happen is that Gaza should be flooded with aid and the UN should be facilitated with delivering it. The looting will cease. Aid is often looted in famine situations.

I believe @CyberStranger is suggesting that the malnutrition/starvation isn’t widespread. And that mobile networks should still be working after thousands of tonnes of bombs have been dropped on an area smaller than a major city. And that 36000 meals a minute is realistic from GHF.

I totally agree that the media should be way more mindful about the photos that they do post as it leads to these debates and distracts from the issue. I don’t mind it being flagged as an issue but I find it really disturbing that people can watch clips of poor people in Gaza and are checking whether everyone in shot appears ‘thin enough’ to be starving. As far as I know, there’s no confirmation that this girl even has a medical condition. It’s just been decided because no one else looks like
skin and bones yet. And when people use these photos to play into the narrative that Israel are doing no wrong and it’s all Hamas propaganda, it is very frustrating. I’m not saying you but I think that’s what @CyberStranger is suggesting.

Perhaps when independent journalists are allowed access, we’ll see many more images (unlikely as I’m sure the IDF would avoid any imagery that made people feel sorry for the Palestinians).

Until then, I’m happy to move on and say how sad I was to hear the US have frozen all medical-humanitarian visas from Gaza so orgs like HEAL Palestine can no longer help children get medical assistance in the US.

I also fear that this week will bring much more pain as suffering on the people of Gaza as they are forced out of Gaza City - moving people who have already lost everything and displacing even more people from their homes.

If you think the GHF is lying about the amount of meals they are delivering, you could post on their X account and ask them how they are doing their maths?

I’m not saying they are delivering that many meals, they are and no, I don’t believe they pick those numbers out of thin air with no traceable evidence or accountability that they have to submit to the governments that are funding them.

If they are lying, that would have been questioned by now, another ‘whistleblower’ would have leaked it to the media, as we all know how desperate many people are to discredit them.

Has anyone questioned the numbers? You must be the first. Maybe someone will pick it up?

As was evident in the video I linked to earlier from Turkish media, Maryam’s family evidently are not suffering as she is so you either deduce she’s deliberately not being fed which would be a horrific suggestion, or you can assume logically there must be underlying condition for her state which as I surmised earlier, there seems to be, which makes perfect sense:

https://x.com/mishtal/status/1957025915424100365

It also find it frustrating that posters are unwilling to apply rationale (as in why do the rest of Maryam’s family look perfectly healthy) and seek facts when what is being reported from Hamas controlled Gaza doesn’t make sense.

Why are you not questioning why Arab states are not helping Palestinian children seek medical help in their many countries? Surely they are closer than the US and share similar culture and language?

Hamas are hostile to the US so how is it not a US national security risk to bring in a load of Gazans, who may have been indoctrinated, straight out of Hamas controlled Gaza?

Have you ever heard of the term ‘suicidal empathy’? They need to have provisions in place in protect the security of their own citizens or don’t you agree with other countries doing that?

You are seeing children, many with vulnerabilities, with severe acute malnutrition. They are on the brink of death.

12,000 children in Gaza are estimated to be suffering from acute malnutrition. They won’t all look like this YET. But they will, if something dramatic doesn’t change soon. Because it’s not going to be possible to treat this many children due to the lack of medical aid and therapeutic food.

If you want to see what “regular” malnutrition looks like for someone look at renad in Gaza or Gym rat in Gaza on instagram. They aren’t wasted like these children, but the change in them is obvious.

What is the dramatic thing you think should happen?

Children with disabilities should have been evacuated long ago and I am totally of the view that civilians should have had the choice to evacuate too. Who has prevented that? Egypt is literally a few miles away.

Who would argue against that with the civilian collateral that has been seen so far?

93.5% of UN aid was diverted in July. What is the UN doing about that? It will continue being diverted away from starving children while Hamas has any control of it.

I totally support the UN collaborating with the GHF to expand their mechanism of providing aid direct to civilians as they have shown they can do and are saying they can do, and as the UN is not now showing it can do.

Why would anyone argue against that?

@PinkBobby people do understand that Gazans are not getting enough aid and we do see that there is widespread hunger and malnutrition. That is not the thing being debated.

Why is it so hard though for some people on here to understand that we just don't like being manipulated and lied to about most of the babies used for propaganda purposes having underlying health conditions? It's a cheap shot, a low trick. It's cynical, it's deceitful. It's emotional manipulation and actually it is important to kick back against it and be truthful about why these exact babies and children are picked for photos to be reproduced in the media. Personally I doubt all the photos are of children with underlying health issues, but most are and we see that when we dig a little deeper.

It's a point that I think we should move on from. Tbh it isn't worth discussing as much as we do discuss it on MN but the reason it keeps coming up again and again is because of the lack of honesty around the subject. Better if we all just admit that yes, Hamas do use photos of sick children for propaganda purposes and yes, unfortunately our media do post some photos without providing the context of why they look so much worse than other babies/children in Gaza.

It would be better for us all to focus on what we agree is truth - that there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The many videos of armed men on aid trucks (which is normal as these trucks have security) do show them being swamped and overrun by hungry people OR the videos show IDF firing on the aid convoy or they show the Israel hired ISIS Shabab terrorists attacking and looting the convey (this was even admitted by Netanyahu as fact). There are far more videos of this than the ones alleged to show Hamas rather than the armed ISIS criminals Netanyahu hired to loot the aid.

That is why there were numerous massacres when aid trucks were going in for most of 2024. The aid seekers were being shot up by IDF or by Shabab. Maybe some by Hamas.

The current reports show the vast majority of looting has happened AFTER Israel took humanitarian aid away from the UN and started to use their GHF set up. Looting has gone from less than 3% to 86% in May…hmm?

@Stripes56

👏🏿
The facts speak for themselves.

UNWRA has not been allowed to bring any humanitarian aid into Gaza, including medicines and medical supplies, for more than five months now (since 2 March 2025).

As reported by OCHA, and according to the Nutrition Cluster, almost 13,000 new admissions of children for acute malnutrition treatment were recorded in July 2025: over 2,800 cases were found to be suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) (22 per cent). The most severe cases of children suffering from SAM with complications, who need to be hospitalized and treated in stabilization centres, have also increased, with 129 cases in July alone compared with 215 cases between January and June.

  • UNRWA’s latest Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC)-based findings show that malnutrition has reached 21.5 per cent in Gaza City, meaning nearly one in five young children is now malnourished.
  • On 10 August, Save the Children stated that the reported death of 100 children due to starvation in Gaza since October 2023 is a “devastating milestone that shames the world and demands long overdue urgent action,” and highlighted the devastating, long-term health repercussions of acute malnutrition on children.
  • With minimal food assistance, people in Gaza, particularly the most vulnerable, keep facing hunger and malnutrition, while having exhausted all coping mechanisms.

The health response in Gaza continues to face severe operational challenges, including extensive damage to health facilities, killing of medical workers, obstacles to safe movements within the Gaza Strip, and restrictions on the entry of medical supplies and critical fuel. This is forcing the few remaining hospitals to ration resources and/or suspend critical services.

  • As also reported by OCHA, for over five months since 2 March, UNRWA’s primary healthcare services have been severely disrupted due to UNRWA’s inability to bring in lifesaving medicines and medical supplies, critical shortages of fuel, and obstacles to safe movements. At present, nearly 60 per cent of essential medicines (56 out of 95 items) are out of stock at these health facilities, including antihypertensive drugs, oral antibiotics for adults, antiparasitic products, and iron supplements for children, while 12 per cent (11 items) are only available to cover one month of needs. Moreover, over the past week, limited fuel supplies have forced some UNRWA health centres to operate one shift instead of two.
  • Shortages of medicines, fuel and basic infection control materials are having devastating consequences for patient care. Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) patients, including those with diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, are increasingly unable to access their prescribed treatment due to depleted stocks, which will have serious repercussions on their health.
  • As reported by UNRWA Director of Health, due to the prolonged siege on aid and supplies, there is a critical shortage of life-saving medicines like insulin. People with type one diabetes, including children, in Gaza, need insulin every day to stay alive. Even when these become available, patients with diabetes are still at risk, as sometimes, insulin works too strongly, causing hypoglycemia, a drop in blood sugar that can lead to unconsciousness and even death. Yet with just a bit of sweet juice, candy, or sugar, it can easily be prevented or treated. However, shortages of basic supplies, including sugar, fruit, or exorbitant prices prevent stopping side effects of medications.
  • UNRWA has reported a weekly average of 10,300 infectious diseases cases, which are on the rise due to overcrowding, poor sanitation conditions, and limited access to clean water. Between 4 and 10 August, 9,915 infectious diseases cases were detected, with acute respiratory infections and watery diarrhoea being the most reported diseases across all areas and a growing number of cases of acute bloody diarrhoea being observed, particularly in Al Mawasi area of Khan Younis. A total of 76 cases of Guillain Barre Syndrome were reported as of 7 August, with no medications available for treatment.
  • UNRWA warns that without adequate medical supplies, primary healthcare response is undermined, leaving thousands of chronic disease patients and those suffering from communicable illnesses without life-saving support and heightening the risk of a large-scale public health crisis.

Thank you @SummerFeverVenice
The details of your post highlight the dangers of malnutrition compounding poor medical facilities and medication. The vaccination program for children is also a concern.

There are already concerns that direct deaths from the war are bing under-reported, but there also concerns about indirect deaths through malnutrition and disease that we don’t see in the figures for those who have been killed/ died.
