A mild, late, spineless stand. But a stand. It makes me wonder how much longer this can go on before governments realise people are fed up of this.

Multiple credible reports indicate that Israeli intelligence was aware of Hamas’s plans for a large-scale attack well before October 7, 2023, but dismissed or ignored these warnings. So no, it’s not plausible to claim Hamas ‘started’ the war unilaterally- Israel had foreknowledge and failed to act, which contributed directly to the October 7 massacre.

Hamas started it.

Blaming Israel is appalling I'd ask for that to be deleted if I were you. Mind we have the op saying hostages weren't relevant so I won't hold my breath.

Amnesty international don't know their arses from their elbows. I'd ignore their definitions tbh.

They thought arresting some of the oap intifida <made me lol @twiglets1> was 'disproportionate' despite supporting a terrorist group being illegal.

The guardian? Well who care what they say. I bet a cursory google of anyone they quote will reveal a keffiyeh wearing Dr.

It is a war. People sadly die particularly when there are clowns like hamas intent on killing their own people.

I would just like to highlight that @Gloriia has previously refused to state where they get any of their ‘verified’ sources from, yet has discredited just about everyone…

I know some of you struggle with opinion versus fact.

UK government calls it a war, I think they are a better authority than Amnesty.

That's another example of an opinion by the way.

Although I’m aware I’ve already been told my facts are ‘boring’ this morning, I think I’ll trust the following list of organisations and experts who have publicly stated that Israel is committing genocide, rather than the UK government, who continue to sell arms to Israel…

  • United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese
  • International Court of Justice (ICJ)
  • International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)
  • Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor
  • Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP)
  • Oxfam
  • UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)
  • International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
  • Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention
  • Arab Parliament
  • Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
  • Arab League
  • Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR)
  • Jewish Voice for Peace
  • Physicians for Human Rights – Israel (PHR-I)
  • Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
  • Amnesty International
  • Human Rights Watch (HRW)
  • Al Mezan Center for Human Rights
  • Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR)
  • B’Tselem
  • European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR)
  • Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights
  • United Nations Special Committee on Palestine
  • International Commission of Jurists (ICJ)
  • 880 scholars of international law and genocide studies
  • 100 civil society organisations and six genocide scholars
  • Quaker organisations (American Friends Service Committee and others)”

Reasonable would mean proportionate and consistent. But Netanyahu’s stated demands shift constantly, often boil down to impossible conditions (‘destroy Hamas completely’), and have gone hand-in-hand with actions that prolong the war- like breaking ceasefire deals, rejecting negotiated truces, and continuing blockades that starve civilians.

It’s clear he’s happy to drag the ‘war’ on indefinitely. Although he’s probably well aware that as soon as it ends he’ll be held to account and tried in international courts for war crimes and crimes against humanity. His actions are indefensible.

Netanyahu doesn't want the war to drag on indefinitely, that's Hamas. Netanyhu is so keen to end the war he has recently given Hamas a timescale they absolutely have to do it by - 7th October or he takes Gaza City. He wouldn't have given that warning if he didn't want to send a signal to Hamas that they have 2 months to agree a ceasefire or the consequences will be horrific.

Netanyahu's demands seem fair to anyone that doesn't support Hamas.

Release the hostages - sounds reasonable
Hamas disarm - yes of course
Hamas leave Gaza - yes, would be better for everyone (but them)

You can call it a genocide if you want, that is some people's opinion. But like the UK government, I consider it is better described currently as a war.

I will take you focussing on that instead of the content of my post as you acknowledging that I didn't mention children or say it's reasonable that they are getting killed.

I said that Netanyahu's demands for bringing the war to an end are reasonable (replace the word war with genocide if your head if you want).

it is a genocide.

there are no justifications for genocide.

Amnesty International concludes Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza

Amnesty International’s research has found sufficient basis to conclude that Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.

One massive cause of amputations in children is the shrapnel in the bombs Israel are landing. When they explode they have small tungsten balls and cubes in them that lodge in the limbs . They are tiny wounds(look like splinter wounds) but cause massive damage . They often lacerate blood vessels in childen's legs which lead to amputation.

10 children a day become amputees and morphine is either none existent or in low supply.

I’d be careful, you might be accused of ‘emotional manipulation’ talking about this.

Don’t be silly. Those pesky bombs and explosives are shooting themselves into the sky!

100,000 tons of explosives dropped on a tiny strip of land, we've seen the kms of destroyed buildings, we've seen the children being dragged from the collapsed buildings but you're really over here trying to make out it's landmines responsible for the 1000s of children losing 1 or more of their límbs.

Explosives and landmines will both be responsible.

Twiglets1 · 18/08/2025 13:25

You think what is happening is reasonable. 1/3 of the children in Gaza have been killed and you actually think that’s reasonable.

No I didn't say that. He is not using the hostages as a political pawn to justify what he's doing in Gaza. He's doing what he's doing in Gaza because of 7/10 which included the taking of hostages as well as murdering nearly 1,200 innocent people.

Netanyahu's demands are perfectly reasonable: release the hostages, Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza.

Good for Israel, good for Gazans, don't you think?

Stop victim blaming. It's horrible to blame Israel for the attack on it on 7/10.

Even if there was an intelligence failure, (which is very much disputed the degree to which they could have foreseen that Hamas would dare or be capable of launching an attack like this) that doesn't make it Israel's fault that Hamas attacked them.

Hamas has responsibility for planning and executing 7/10.

GladioliGreen · 18/08/2025 13:13

CyberStranger · 18/08/2025 12:07

Yes Hamas are responsible for all deaths in Gaza as they STARTED the war but for this purpose I am referring to direct deaths from their own munitions which had no IDF involvement.

Land Mines = most common cause of amputation in a war btw.

So you admit it? He’s using the hostages as a political pawn to justify what he’s doing in Gaza. There is absolutely no reason why he couldn’t negotiate for the release of the hostages.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 18/08/2025 12:43

Framing it?

Hamas absolutely did start the war by slaughtering, raping and torturing 1200 people including 900 civilians, as well as kidnapping 250 people including babies and children, 50 which they are still holding almost 2 years later.

IN A SINGLE DAY.

Would Israel gave gone into Gaza otherwise?

The ‘oppression’ in Gaza was self inflicted by a majority of Palestinians choosing terrorism and war instead of peace.

Do you think thousands of misfired and unexploded rockets landing in civilian areas, IEDs, land mines, booby traps etc, might have caused some deaths or injuries in such a small, densely populated place like Gaza?

How many deaths or injuries do you think they may have caused.

Do you think landmines might explain the high amount of child amputees?

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 18/08/2025 12:14

Are you sure you’re not being deliberately obtuse? Framing it as ‘Hamas started the war, so they’re responsible for all deaths’ completely ignores decades of occupation, repeated Israeli military operations, and the ongoing blockade that has caused mass civilian suffering. Direct deaths from IDF strikes, drone attacks, and the weaponisation of aid are a huge part of Gaza’s civilian toll.

Ah but we don't talk about that.
Look up the part of the episode of "Spitting Image" from 1989 about Israel.
