I was replying to your post about Thai workers in Israel. That's why I spoke about Thai workers in Israel. You were suggesting that Israel was hiring them as some kind of outreach programme when there is a long documented history of them being treated appalling and being paid badly.

It seems a bit victim blamey to say why are victims of sexual assault there if they are treated that badly?! I would assume the answer is extreme poverty in their home country. People put up with a lot to feed their families. Surely the question that should be asked is who is sexually assaulting them and how can they be protected, not well why are the victims there?

Every Thai agricultural worker was sexually assaulted while in Israel? Men and women? Not clear from the report. I thought the Thai workers were mainly men?

I read a story of one of Thai workers slaughtered by Hamas whose family said he enjoyed it there working on an avocado farm and sent them $2,000 a month. obviously after his living costs. A low income in Thailand is around $500 a month although the average wage is $2,700 a month.

The unexplained death report is also not very clear. It looks like there were 22 over 5 years out of 50,000 workers. That’s about 4 a year. It says they were handed over to the Thai embassy for repatriation. Does Thailand not do autopsies?

I know most countries in the ME and Asia treat foreign workers abominably. I have seen it myself while living over there with Phillipino workers in an extremely wealthy country.

Israel seems to have an inspection mechanism which is more than they do IME and if you’re going to single Israel out, do you do so for all those countries too?

@CyberStranger What you mean the workers the are made live in sheds, paid a pittance and subjected to abuse? I think access to cheap labour with absolutely no incentive to treat them like people explains that one.

Yes the Israeli government probably care about Israeli citizens just as much as our governments care about us.

Although I’d argue Israel may care just a tad more in terms of protecting citizens as I doubt they’d welcome thousands of undocumented male migrants of fighting age in their country and allow them free access to society. They also take extremists preaching to and acting to destroy them and take over their country seriously. Unlike Europe I have to say.

Also the government and Israeli aid agencies do seem to care about other countries.

I didn’t know they’d helped with the 2016 UK floods and they helped with the earthquake in Thailand and Myanmar this year while being at war.

Trade between Great Britain and Ireland dropped more than €6bn in 2024 as post-Brexit frictions hit shipments across the Irish Sea.

The value of imports and exports between the nations fell to about €32bn last year, down from €38bn in 2023, according to Ireland’s Central Statistics Office.

I didn't realise it was that little. Trade with Ireland a country with almost half the population of Israel was over 100 billion. It must be a tiny percentage of Britain's overall trade of its only 5% of their trade with Ireland.

Uefa has paid more than €10.8m (£9.4m) in “solidarity” funds to Russian football clubs since they were banned from taking part in European tournaments after the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine, the Guardian can reveal.

The payments were made despite five Ukrainian clubs failing to receive similar such funds allegedly due to their locations being in a “zone of military operations”.

The revelation will raise fresh concern about Uefa’s approach to the Kremlin.

Nope I don't. I think he just uses people. I think the Israeli government care about Israel(not the Israeli people, just the land and the power) and no one else. They are allies to no one, they take and take and then the minute governments deviate even a little from what the Israel government want they turn on them and smear them and use it as some batshit excuse to take even more.

Yes this makes me question what people are spreading. Hamas seem to be forgotten or their information disseminated.

Yes you would think everyone would be joining forces to destroy the terrorist group hamas who are responsible for the atrocities on Oct 7th, the suffering of the hostages and the suffering and deaths of the gazans but nope. Many seem to believe all the rubbish hamas spout and blame Israel for everything even when we see terrorists nicking all the aid.

I would be interested in the same opinions if it wasn’t Israel who had been attacked as on Oct 7th and was carrying out a war to remove a terrorist government who had vowed to do it again and again, and rescue it’s hostages, under the same type of warfare Hamas uses.
